Community, Confidence, and Friends: L) faithinhumanityr Dear teenage boy at skate park: You're probably about fifteen years old, so I don't expect you to be very mature or for you to want a little girl on your skate ramp for that matter. What you don't know is that my daughter has been wanting to skateboard for months. I actually had to convince her that skateboarding wasn't for just for boys. So when we walked up to the skate park and saw that it was full of teenage boys who were smoking and swearing she immediately wanted to turn around and go home. I secretly wanted to go too because I didn't want to have to put on my mom voice and exchange words with you. I also didn't want my daughter to feel like she had to be scared of anyone, or that she wasn't entitled to that skate park just as much as you were. So when she said 'Mom it's full of older boys" I calmly said·So what, they don't own the skate park. She proceeded to go down the ramp in spite of you and your friends flying past her and grinding rails beside her. She only had two or three runs in before you approached her and said Hey, excuse me... immediately prepared to deliver my "She's allowed to use this park just as much as you guys' speech when I heard you say "You're feet are wrong. Can I help you?' You proceeded to spend almost an hour with my daughter showing her how to balance and steer, and she listened to you; A feat not attained by most adults! You held her hand and helped her get up when she fell down and I even heard you tell her to stay away from the rails so that she wouldn't get hurt. I want you to know that I am proud that you are part of my community, and I want to thank you for being kind to my daughter, even though your friends made fun of you for it. She left with a sense of pride and with the confidence that she can do anything, because of you. Helping hand

Bad, Beard, and Blessed: nOrma1-people-sxare-me A group of rough looking boys walked past me today and all I heard of their conversation was "he's got that anxiety disorder bro so I went with him so he'd be more comfortable and it made me realise the world isn't all that bad fitzefitcher #this is team skull its-just-a-phage The pet store I worked at had a pen with rabbits near the front door. On every side of the pen were huge signs saying You can pet me, but don't pick me up!" One day two absolutely huge guys came in and one immediately reaches into the pen to grab a rabbit. Before i could say anything his friend grabbed his arm and asked him "did you see the sign? He said "yeah! it says that you can pick them up but don't pet them! Then he went quiet for a moment and softly said "l didn't read it right did 1? And his friend just puts his arm on his shoulder and said "its ok, i know you've got that thing where words get mixed up. Let just pet these cute lil shits" And I still haven't gotten over that interaction. flowernstt I was walking my dog through Boston bc he likes the likes car rides. He's a little thing tbh we call him short and long So this huge scary man with a full beard approaches me like "hey can my buddy and I pet your dog? He gets nervous around dogs but your's is so small I think it's a good place to start" Ofc I was like "yes he's very friendly!" So this guy brings his equally big friend over and they sit on the floor while this man looks terrified of my tiny dog so big man number one asks "can I pick him up?" And i say yes so he picks him up and puts him on man number two's lap and man number two is abt to freak out and his friend straight up just goes "hey man, it's okay just relax lI'd never let anything hurt you. He's a good boy." I'll never forget it ever bc I know that man looked at me (5'3, glasses, probably wearing a sweater vest) and my dog (kinda goofy looking little thing) and was like 'ah yes the two least intimidating living things l've seen in Boston all day he'll feel relaxed around them and went out of his way to help his friend. It makes me so happy anotherdayforchaosfay My husband had this Dungeons and Dragons group ages ago, and one of the guys was TERRIFIED of cats. The moment he sees one he freezes up and can barely breathe. Said guy is almost seven feet tall and solid wall of muscle Whenever he came over l'd put the cats in the bedroom and chill out with a book because my cats don't like being shut away without one of us One of my cats was pawing at the door and meowing loudly, an indication she REALLY needs to use the litter box. I let her out and decide, hey, I'm hungry and decide to the kitchen. I forgot to shut the bedroom door. Next thing I hear is the group going completely silent. My husband very calmly asks me to come over and help him gather our two cats up. I go over to where the group is and my black cat, Cacoa, is rubbing up against the guy's leg purring, and doing her "let me on your lap meow. The other cat, Jasper, is sitting at the window, chilling out. I go over and pick up Cacoa and tell the big dude she's harmless, loves laps, and would be thrilled if he pet her. Very slowly he touches my cat's face, and she leans right into his hand. He then pets her back and sighs because she's really soft and purring like mad. After a few minutes he asks how to pick her up and if it's okay if she sits on his lap He spent the next six hours spoiling my cat. The next week he showed up with cat treats and toys because he fell in love with the cats. He told me he was doing some research on house cats, and even talked to a vet about them. A couple months later he adopted two cats and was as thrilled and excited as a new parent. ruffboijuliaburnsides Oh no a new one!!! jack-the-lion Blessed post. anaalihelmisimpukka I used to work at this stable for icelandic horses and every now and then this man would turn up by the field to just watch the horses. One time I walked by him as I was going to get the horses inside, and he went "I always wanted to learn how to ride but I'm afraid of horses because they're so huge. If I could ride ponies like this, maybe I'd dare but now I'm too big and heavy for them." You should have seen his face when I told them that actually they're not ponies, just small horses and they could totally carry him. His face just lit up. Next thing I'm helping him to get on back. Today he knows how to ride Source:nOrma1-people-sxare-me 935,955 notes A classic collection of feel good stories (with new additions)

Truganini was the last full-blooded Palawa, but that doesn’t mean they are “extinct” as those reductive infographics would have you believe. Doesn’t matter how much milk you put in a cup of coffee, it’s still a cup of coffee, and just because Tasmanian aboriginals today are mixed race doesn’t mean they’re not still aboriginal with a living culture and a strong connection to their ancestors and their history.

On Bruny Island, Truganini’s birthplace, which the Nuenone people called Lunnawanna-Alonnah, there is a thriving cultural centre called Weetapoona. The government restored land to Tasmanian aboriginals a few years back. There they are doing some fantastic work to revive their customs, work with archaeologists, as well as achieve reconciliation.

Colonists certainly committed incomprehensible atrocities. Kidnapping, rape, murder, massacre, theft of land, even theft of aboriginal bodies. Not content with taking their lives and exiling them from country, they took bodies as trophies and sent them across the sea, away from land and ancestors. As a way of excusing their atrocities, perhaps, colonisers spread the idea that Tasmanians were the most backward and least evolved of all human beings, making them valuable “specimens.” It was Truganini’s greatest fear that she would be made a souvenir after she died, and unfortunately her fears came true. It took many, many decades before her body was returned to country. I could go on and on, but my point is that it is so important that we don’t spread this idea of extinction and acknowledge them instead as a living culture who must be allowed to define themselves, their past and their future. Spreading nonsense and reductive half-truths like the one above only makes it worse.

OP is either an idiot who can’t do research or a liar.

Wow! at this point, what isnt racist in this country??!! WHAT THE FUCK Wow 😳😥 As a History Concentration with a rather unsettling love for Looney Tunes and other classic cartoons, I never thought that I’d see the day where my two completely unrelated passions merged up so wonderfully. And yet, here we are. So let’s talk about Tasmania, shall we? Actually, pretty much everything that the OP said about Tasmania is correct. By the way, her name was Truganini (Nickname: Lallah Rookh.) If you’re going to use her legacy to try to criticize an old cartoon character you should at least give her the common courtesy of a name. Now then, let’s talk about Looney Tunes. Or more specifically, let us talk about the Tasmanian Devil. Taz for short. Great character. Fun, energetic, hungry, and not a racist portrayal in any way, shape, or form. The statement that Taz is a racist portrayal of the Tasmanian people is completely and one hundred percent wrong. Now I know what you’re thinking… “Alright marauders4evr, what is the Tasmanian Devil based off of?” Well, Im glad that you asked. Gather ‘round and listen closely now because this is going to be one of the greatest revelations that you will ever hear in your mortal lives. The Tasmanian Devil… …is based off of the Tasmanian Devil! Yeah! It’s a real animal! An energetic animal who eats everything in its sight. And Robert McKimson based a character off of it. Speaking of one of the great men behind Looney Tunes… Let’s talk about Mel Blanc! I love him! I wish that I could have met him! He’s one of my late heroes. Phenomenal voice actor. The best that has ever existed. The Man of 1000 Voices he’s called. (And that’s an underestimate!) The point is that he took a lot of pride in his work. So what did he base Taz’s dialect off of? I can tell you right now that it wasn’t the Tasmanian people. Mel Blanc based the sound of the Tasmanian Devil… …off of the Tasmanian Devil! Here’s a clip of Taz’s dialect: And here’s a clip of the Tasmanian Devil’s scream: (Chilling, ain’t it?) (On a side note, I just love to imagine Mel in the recording booth, screaming and growling before calmly doing Bugs’ voice!) In conclusion… What happened to the Tasmanian people truly is saddening and I wish that it hadn’t happened. THE TASMANIAN DEVIL (TAZ) IS NOT A RACIST PORTRAYAL IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM THE TASMANIAN DEVIL IS A REAL ANIMAL! MEL BLANC WAS AWESOME AND DESERVES YOUR UTMOST RESPECT! T-T-T-T-T-T-THAT’S ALL FOLKS! Fabulous There’s enough actual, legitimate racism in this world. Speak out against that instead of making shit up. I thought it was common knowledge that all the animals in Looney Tunes were based on actual animals, and aren’t meant to represent people.
