Some context for those not familiar with Waffle House Culture:  Waffle House is one of the few chains in America that’s open 24/7/365, and where you can get both breakfast and lunch/dinner options at any time (I have had so many Breakfast Cheeseburgers at Waffle Houses). The food is really good, and people eat there at all times of the day or night, but it’s particularly popular as a late-night post-drinking spot because it’s all that’s open and it’s the kind of food that tastes especially good when you’re hammered. Part of Waffle House Protocol is that all the servers and cooks greet every single customer as they come through the door. It sounds lame, but I’ve never been to a Waffle House where that greeting didn’t feel completely heartfelt. My mom is a health nut who could barely find anything on the menu she was willing to eat and yet she describes the Christmas Day lunch we had there one year as one of the nicest meals she’s ever had because everyone was so warm and welcoming. That sense of camaraderie gets turned up to 11, of course, at 2 a.m. when everyone’s shitfaced. The jukeboxes have Waffle-House-themed songs on them (once you have heard “Raisins in my Toast” you will be earwormed forever) and there is an arcane system of hash brown ordering: scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, topped, diced, peppered, and/or capped. The hot sauce bottles say “Casa de Waffle.”  Once, in Oxford (UK), my husband and I walked past a kebab van very late one night and he said “why do I smell Waffle House” The location of most Waffle Houses means there’s some… classism that tends to get tied up with Anti-Waffle House Discourse, which is probably lending itself, in part, to this being such a fraught topic. (I’m looking at a map and apparently I was born and raised right in the middle of the Peak Waffle House Density Zone) It is, in the words of chef Anthony Bourdain, “indeed marvelous— an irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts; where everybody regardless of race, creed, color or degree of inebriation is welcomed.” We’re not even gonna mention FEMA’s Waffle House Index where they determine how bad a natural disaster is by calling the local Waffle House to see if they’re open? #and wafflehouse is one of those spiritual places#2am friendships#its the same hazy feel#of cicadas and front porches with your friends Waffle House is physical and spiritual neutral territory. srsfunny: The Harry Potter Series And Its True Meaning: When people say these books are children's books, as if to demean them, I balk. These books dealt with themes that adults do not fully understand or wish to. It dealt with racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, prejudice, and general ignorance. These books taught us that it doesn't matter how you were raised, but at you get to choose to be kind, loyal, brave, and true. They taught us to be strong u nder the pressures of this world and to hold fast to what we know to be right. These books taught me so much, they changed me as a person. So just ause they're set against a fantastical backdrop with young protagonists does not mean that their value is any less real This First book Starts with the double murder of a pair of twenty-one year olds who e much missed and leaving their baby son a war orphan abusive conditions that would give Cinderella the horrors. Dealing with peers and teachers who are bulies. The fickleness of fame (from the darling of Gryffindor to the outcast.) The idea that there are things worth fighting and dying for, spoken by the child protagonist. Three children promptly acting on that willingness to sacrifice their lives, and two of them getting injured doing so Second book. The equivalent of racism with the pro-pureblood attitude by an eleven year old girl being groomed and then used by a charming, handsome older male. The imbalance of power and resultant abuse inherent in slavery. Fraud perpetuated by stealing something very intimate. Plot driven hird book: The equivalent of ableism with a decent, kind and competant adult being considered less than human because he has an illness that adversely affects his behaviour at certain times. A justice system that is the opposite of just. Promises of removing an abused child from the abusive environment can't always be kept. The innocent suffer while the guilty thrive. Fouth book: More fickleness of fame. The privileged mistreating and undermining the underprivileged because they can. A master punishing a slave for his own misjudgment, and the slave blaming herself. A sports tournament which involves mortal risk being cheered by spectators. A wonderful young man being murdered y because he was in the way. A young boy being tortured, humilated and nearly murdered. Fifth book: PTSD in the teenage protagonist. Severe depression in the protagonist's godfather, triggered by inherited mental health issues and being forced to stay in a house where abuse occured. A bigoted tyrant who lives to crush everyone under her heel, torturing a teenager for telling the truth in the name of the government (and trying to suck his soul out too). The discovery that your idols can feet of clay after all. An effort to save the life of someone dear and precious actually costing that very same life. The loss of a father-figure and the resultant guilt Sixth book: The idea that a soul can be broken beyond repair. Drugs with the potential for date rape are shown as having achieved exactly that in at least one case, resulting in a pregnancy. Well-meaning chauvinism trying to control the lo life of a young woman. Internalised prejuidce resulting in refusing the one you love out of lack of love but out of fear of tainting them. The mortality of those that seem powerful and larger than life Seventh book Bad situations can get worse, to the point where even the end up suffering and afraid. More internalised prejudice and feaf hysterical terror of ting those you love. Self-sacrifice and the loss of loved ones, EVERYWHE se who are bitter are often so with a reason. The necessity of defeating yo inner demons, even though it's never as cool as it sounds. Don't underestimate those that are enslaved. Other people's culture isn't always like your own. Things often come full circle (war ending with the death of a dearly-loved pair of new parents and their orphaned baby son living with his dead mother's blood relative instead of his young godfather). Even if all is well' the world is still imperfect, because it's full of us brilliant imperfect humans. So.. still think that Harry Potter is a kid's series with no depth? fuck it's three am. and I'm having feelings about Harry Potter you should probably go to TheMetaPicture.com srsfunny: The Harry Potter Series And Its True Meaning

So.. still think that Harry Potter is a kid's series with no depth? fuck it's three am. and I'm having feelings about Harry Potter you should probably go to TheMetaPicture.com srsfunny:The Harry Potter Series And Its True Meaning

Posted this earlier and was bombarded with "what about emergency vehicles what if I'm going to the hospital" etc etc. First of all, understand that these protestors are human, they are not trying to kill anyone, and they will let emergency vehicles pass by. You're not going to protest against an injust system and then choose not to let an ambulance through. There is only ONE instance of this happening after countless protests across the US. Next rebuttal "these people should get jobs; not everyone can just protest all day" these people do have jobs (thanks to our capitalist system you must have a job-jobs to survive bc things like healthcare aren't provided universally 🙃🙃) but are using their little free time to fight for equality and fight against a system that actively oppresses them. If you can spend your free time doing activities like watching TV, shopping, cooking, etc then congratulations but some people are tired of being victims of an oppressive system and want to fight back. "You're keeping people from getting to their jobs" if this is your response please reread the post because clearly you missed the point. TLDR: If you see a group of oppressed people protesting and your first thought is that they're wrong, maybe stop and consider that that have a reason to protest! Think about other people and imagine being ignored and silenced your entire life to the point where the ONLY way you can be heard is by shutting a highway down. 😞 Y'all if you follow me then I know you understand sexism so please apply these same concepts to racism and classism. It's super disappointing to see a bunch of privileged-ignorant-selfish responses when I post about things deeper than "puppies not patriarchy." stop! Think! Try to understand and empathize! Don't automatically get defensive!!!!: Protesters don't block traffic to gain your support. They do it so you can see what if feels like to be stuck in a powerless situation How do you respond to this situation? Are you calm and peaceful? Do you want to spend years organizing political talks about it? Nope, you want to run those protesters over, kill them, kill them all. If you want to kill protesters who have you stuck in traffic, imagine what you would want to do to a system that patrols, harasses and kills you. The sooner you learn perspective the sooner you won't have to be stuck in traffic. Deep down this resonates with all women of African diaspora reading this. Maybe all women, as all women are oppressed to varying degrees. This resonates because love is the deepest & highest vibration within our lives. So why do African women give the most but receive the least globally? Many reasons, racism & sexism being two of them. African women are so brilliant & so beautiful that the insecure men of the world feel the need to control them. I have spent the time in Ethiopia speaking to women whenever I could. I asked them all the same Question. "What's it like to be an African woman in this world?" All said that it's hard because if they "look good" they are judged on their "looks" not on the content of their character. If they don't "look good" then there are less opportunities for them economically. Either way it's a struggle because men own basically everything. Military Banks Schools Food Water Media Music Law Land Business Politics Medicine Literature and even the "Beauty" industry... Men use every opportunity to oppress, profit from & downpress the woman. African women face racism from non Africans, Classism, colourism & Sexism from all. Women are generally more emotionally intelligent than men, they use the right brain & the left brain. Many men are conditioned & rewarded when they just use the left brain & the reptilian (order following, fight or flight brain So from birth women have been told something derogatory by men & by other women controlled by men. You have been told your life's purpose is to fit in & get a man for marriage. Men have been told your life's purpose is to excel & find a woman who supports your goals. I am writing this with gender privilege so more people will read this than if I was a woman. How I look is a bonus, but not my perceived soul contribution to the human experience. So I will use this platform to speak up for women. Working with women who are victims of oppression & sexual violence has shown me that women are generally better human beings than men. So love them properly, leave them room to grow and then support them. Black is Beautiful. Bleaching cream disgusts me. The ideology that created it disgusts me. I didn't see any Europeans in DR Congo. (Not saying there aren't any) I have only seen beautiful dark skinned Africans. But I have seen bleaching products everywhere owned by European companies. In Europe I see tanning cream everywhere... They want Africans whiter and they want to be darker? I am confused? Like if you think all African countries should ban Bleaching products. Even the major shopping centres are owned by European immigrants (they call themselves expats, I don't) guess what whole rows of bleaching products, beauty magazines with white people on & in or sisters with blonde hair, light skin, bleached skin or white foundation, then they retouch them to make them whiter. What is wrong with these people? Just give it a rest. I heard all of this the lighter you are the less likely that you work outside & the whole classism thing. That is disrespect. How about we just start petitions to get all of these bleaching products banned globally. It's Bleach... Bleach Fam, you go crazy if it gets on your clothes. If you drank it you would die. Call me crazy but we are all important. Sometimes I feel like I am holding together a rock and a hard place, but I can only be me so I will keep being honest. To be able ignore the social forces, upon which our society is created is a privilege, that some have to different degrees. I generalise a lot, but when trying to get a message out to the people in general this is the Quickest way. I don't see myself as a scholar, I never even went to collage, but I am studying at the university of life. This enables me to see the global as well as the local. I am studying classism, sexism and racism. But to study this you have to be a historian as well as a social scientist and psychologist. I am studying holistic health, as well as fitness and communication. So I am studying biology as well as physics and relationships. Many of us are scared to study ourselves. We get so caught up in our relationships with people we are f*cking, that we forget to unite against governments f*cking all of us. I am studying to be a nutritionist so that I can save lives and educate people. At some point I will be asked where my nutrition degree is, but as long as I understand the body acts on food at bio molecular level and can explain this to the people, it doesn't matter that I am not going to university. So many people spend all of their lives studying but then never teach. We are stuck on download, but we need to upload to the people in a way, they can overstand on all levels. Scholars are cool and I will never take away from the works of the minds of the brilliant, but if you only produce material for a niche group of people then your energy investment, to energy return ratio isn't productive. Also you don't need a man or an institution to tell you that you have a brain in order to use it. Universities give you a degree of knowledge but they never give you the wholistic knowledge of a subject, because of the people who control what information gets taught. Look at how many sick doctors there are, look at how many historians only teach you the Eurocentric version of global history. I wonder if trump can throw hands... He is 70, I wonder if he can get it up without taking viagra. All these things are irrelevant, but you start to judge and condemn people when they are harming and causing harm to others. We all do it. This is why I am not here for the whole "no judgment" crew. You need judgement to form an opinion. It's fine to judge. Whenever Africans, or women, or Muslims, or people who don't have that much money are pissed because of unfair treatment-structural violence-disproportionate incarceration... They should be peaceful, or get over it, or just be marginalised up until the point where they shut up. But when it's other groups, being ill treated, all of a sudden the aggressors need to die, or be thrown in jail or beaten... Recent public opinion has been saying this and protesting trump & rightly so. When I am minding my own business, Europeans have been coming up to me to discuss how much of a pig trump is, telling me how they aren't like that. I never said you was fam... But just remember this next time you see others suffering racism, sexism, classism, or losing their rights, homes and freedoms. Meanwhile I am here for the cashmeoutsidehowboutdat I can throw hands, if the current political leaders had to physically fight each other, not with weapons, like they send our young men-women to die & murder children, but with fist fights, the world would be a far more peaceful place. War is rich men sending poor men, to murder other poor men who don't know each other, for other rich men who do know each other... But aren't prepared to murder each other. I'll never forget it or stop feeling guilty about it for as long as I live. chakabars resist: IAMO IS AMER How Bou, DAH? This made me smile :) Like if you fight racism! What do we teach our children? Do we teach them to love one another no matter where they are from or what language they speak. Do we teach them to love souls instead of bodies? Do we teach them to love themselves no matter where they are born, or how much money we are able to give them... or do we teach them that "pretty" girls & "strong" boys are those to look up to. Do we teach them to respect our elders, or do we forget our elders & put them in homes because we are too busy to bother with them. Do we teach them to organise their lives to solve human problems? Do we teach them world history from birth, so that all of the contributions to human history & herstory are taken into consideration when formulating prejudice & bias. We all judge, but do we teach them to hide behind their judgement or do we teach them to judge from a place of love & respect. Are we really promoting unity in this time of Trump. Or are we still dividing. I'm not saying stop talking about sexism, classism & racism. These divisions exist & to choose to ignore them because they make us feel comfortable, as we want to ignore the social forces that benefit some of us is division, & ignorance. But what are we really teaching our children? Are we awakening them & praising their love for those who we have made homeless, those who we have cast out, those who are refugees because of humans wars for profit of some, but the spiritual loss of all. What are we doing. What are you doing? Hopefully your children will bless this earth & not sit & apathetically watch as some destroy it. chakabars: My son is OBSESSED with this little girl in his book and kisses her every time This made me smile :) Like if you fight racism! halfsyproblems: princeloki: f1rstperson: Glad to see my lifelong disinterest in golf is paying off let me tell you about golf i grew up in a little desert valley called Tucson, Arizona, where it only rains 2 inches a year on average. the majority of the city’s water is pumped from an underground aquifer, which took millions of years to fill. one of the biggest conservation efforts in our city was for water, naturally, and i spent a lot of time learning about low flow toilets and 5 minute showers. i learned that filling your sink basin and washing your dishes in that water is less costly than running the tap. i learned that it only takes 2 days without water on the desert for someone to die the city was sinking as the aquifer drained. neighborhoods fell into flood zones that didnt exist 10 years ago there’s a road called Golf Links in the city and it is lined with golf courses. miles of green grass where grass doesn’t grow, in a valley where it doesn’t rain. why? because the rich white retirees who moved there to stop the aching in their joints decided they should also get to play golf. meanwhile our public schools taught small children like me that taking long showers would kill the world let the golf industry burn Can I add, as someone who played competitive golf for a while (shut up, y’all know I’m nouveau-riche AmKal trash, and it was just SO satisfying to yank trophies out from under all those old name gadje), there is NO REASON golf courses have to be so manicured! Honestly, it would make the game more challenging and fun if you just played on standard area terrain. It would be significantly cheaper for the owners, too, and they wouldn’t have to repair the green every week when the fucking rich folk inevitably refuse to fix their own divets. Not to mention it would make the sport cheaper and more accessible to people who aren’t rich, retired white men (granted, there’s a lot of other cost issues in golf, like the fact that a decent driver can run for $200 for, again, no damn reason, but this would at least help). And you could still make it safe and accessible for elderly players without completely killing the natural landscape and wasting resources. These over-tended greens are just there because they make play marginally easier and because wealthy clubhouse people like the look of them (and it justifies keeping fees high enough to, y’know, “keep the riffraff out”).Those were the things that really drove me away from the sport, to be honest - the blatant racism/classism among most players, the wastefulness, and the complete aversion to change, or even to acknowledging things could be changed. Like I used to hear players talk all the time about how much they loved “being out in nature” and it made me want to break a club over their heads, because oh my God, do you think this is what nature is?! If you actually want to appreciate somewhere with beautiful landscapes like Arizona while you play, then don’t build a fucking emerald green in the middle of a desert! And if you’re just there to play on pretty, easy, fake turf, then go to a virtual range. I know old golfers hate computers more than anything else, but at least my generations keeps their simulated hobbies INSIDE where they can’t ruin the local environment. Like I think it’s pretty telling that I started this little rant by apologizing for enjoying golf (a sport I do still like in theory, and think a lot of people would enjoy if it was ever pried out of the hands of rich white snobs). I know a lot of people who don’t fit the conventional golfer mold who are in the same boat. They’re good players, and they still want to play, but the course culture is so fucking terrible it drove them out permanently. So yeah, like OP said: burn the golf industry. I looked it up and found some more if she don’t speak English if she brings the movie over if she drank more wine than you did if her name Diamond, crystal, mercedes, candy, ashley, Britney, or anything that ends in “Quana” the scariest thing about this hashtag is that it’s also littered with racism and classism, not to mention it’s filled with REAL LIFE situations that commonly happen to women in the world. This is truly vile and I am disgusted. ARE YOU SERIOUS
