They also apparently go through the details of officer-involved shootings elsewhere, picking them apart and using them as teaching tools for what NOT to do or what the officer could have done to avoid shooting the person. Essentially, they take a proactive approach to not shooting people and put time, money, and effort into it. Richmond isn’t a low-crime area. Other cities could follow their model and almost certainly see results. Who’d have thought it would take so much work to learn how to just … NOT shoot people These are the sort of police officers who deserve respect.  The ones who take the time to build a relationship with the community they’re supposed to be protecting, and work to actually protect people instead of just shooting anyone who looked scary. In before anyone tries to say that the only reason this works is because Richmond is probably like “not as bad” as other places in the US I grew up here. I’m close to Richmond. It used to be one of the most dangerous cities in America. Literally. In 2006 it was #11 in the Most Dangerous Cities in America.  Now? It doesn’t even break the top 100. What changed? This guy became police chief in 2007. IT’S SO FUCKING WEIRD HOW THAT WORKS! *looks pointedly at every other police force in America*

Being Alone, Best Friend, and Friends: Marleen Brooks 25 at 5:49pm . Came home to this note from a lady that lives down the street from me. Makes my heart sad, but on the bright side it looks ike I will be getting new friend When you're an adult, it's pretty hard to find new people, but imagine being elderly and havingno oneleft. That's terrifying. That's the situation that a 90-year-old woman in California found herself in, so she took a positive step to combat her isolation and loneliness. She wrote a note to a neighbour ん「 This is the note that Marleen Brooks came home to, It says Would you consider to become my friend. rm 90 years old-live alone. All my friends have passed away. I'm so lonesome and scared. Please -I pray for someone. In any case, Marleen wasn't going to let this letter go unanswered. She shared the letter. Then she made a plan to make a new friend. Marleen went out to grab some cupcakes and went down the street that evening to introduce herself. She brought along her best friend so that Wanda could meet two new people. She wrote again after her friend-making party Earier today I posted about how Marleen Brooks came home and found a nate from an elderly neighbor named Wanda. It said: Would you consider to become my friend I'm 90 years old- live alone and all my friends have passed away. I'm so lonesome and scared. Tonight Marleen (on the left with her best friend on the right] went over to Wanda's house and met her She brought her some cupcakes too. Afterward Marleen wrate to me about what happened: She's such a sweet lady! And she was over the moon when we came over. Wanda told me: 1 hope you didn't think I was stupid for writing you, but I had to do Thank you so much for coming over I've lived here for 50 years and don't know any of my neighbors." I also made sure that wanda knew she can call us at anytime and that be back to spend time with her! I'm sure Wanda and I wll have some great times. -Marieen Brooks I love this story And I'm so happy for Wanda But as I sald in my tirst post, there are so many others out there who are lanely just Eke Wanda. I would ask that maybe you consider knocking on their door and saying hi I know it would mean the world to them. And who knows, maybe you'll make a new friend Can you imagine living in one place for over 50 years and not krnowing anybody? I can't. That's too long to be alone, without anyone to talk to or to keep you company. Especially when you have the ailments that Wanda has. I cant imagine being in her position. We all need some compassion and kudos to Wanda for reaching out and asking for what she absolutely deserves. All the way up until the 1900’s people were still migrating here for a better future, especially during  the World Wars. You can’t just say you have to descend from the British colonies to be a “true” American. There are plenty of legal immigrants that love this country more than to 10th gen people who were born here. southernnationalist? Oh wow. To be fair, though, the lady in the original post seems like she actually came here and fully embraced America rather than trying to make it like China. She’s one of the ones who did it the right way. I don’t disagree. I’m not crazy about the idea of people who weren’t born here holding federal office, but it is what it is. Fact of the matter is, we hear endlessly about how immigrants built America, and that’s true. What people seem to leave out, conveniently enough, is that the vast majority of those immigrants were from western Europe. True enough, hundreds of thousands of Chinese laborers  helped build California and the railroads. But America’s industrial super strength was built on the backs of European immigrants who were treated only marginally better than ethnic immigrants. And this is used to excuse endless immigration from South America, Mexico, the M.E., Asia, etc - all places where immigration to the US should be heavily controlled from so those who come have time to assimilate to OUR culture, language and customs - otherwise we get what we’re seeing now: people protesting an American running for an American office…….. with the fucking flag of Mexico in hand. Because they don’t like America, they don’t want to live in America, they want to live in North Mexico. No different than the muslims who come here en masse and demand to have their own sharia courts, they don’t want to live in America, they want to live in the American Islamic Emirates.  Wow conservative discourse is such garbage

When he’s in more progressive countries he talks about universal human dignity and open mindedness and so on. And yet when he’s speaking to conservative audiences, suddenly he’s reaffirming the Church’s conservative values. For someone who’s called a lot of people out on their BS, I just find it surprising that Sanders would praise someone with that kind of track record, but then again I guess the Pope isn’t running for office. But still, it rubbed me the wrong way. I do agree that many praise the pope more than they should since he is indeed conservative on many issues but once again Sanders has denounced the popes views on social issues many times on national television and even right after it was revealed he was invited to speak at the Vatican. But Sanders doesnt belong to this you must be exactly like me camp, and instead wants to work with the popes message of economic inequality which he is indeed sincere about. The Pope is no angel but he is the best pope in ages and Im an atheist admitting this lol 😂
