officialromaniantranslatiuni: petruparcatoru: andiiwrites: dangerdwight: vrabia: officialromaniantranslatiuni: http://www.bihorcouture.com hey friends, if you care about cultural appropriation and the damage it causes, please check out this awesome project! in 2017 dior copied the design of a traditional romanian coat from the county of bihor and sold it for 30,000 euro, giving no credit to the local artisans. in response, romanian fashion magazine beau monde helped the community create their own brand, bihor couture, which sells the original coat, handmade to order, for 500 euro a piece. they also sell other traditional clothing and jewelry for much more accessible prices (5-45 euro). they’ve been hugely successful so far, and currently have enough pre-orders to cover 4.5 years of work, with 100% of the profits returning to the community.  it’s surprisingly common for big name fashion designers like dior, gaultier, tom ford and altuzarra to copy traditional romanian clothing and sell it for ridiculous prices, with minimal original input, while giving nothing back to the community where these designs originated. it’s completely unfair that a big name designer can just steal so much hard work and misuse it to make huge profits.  please support bihor couture, if not by ordering one of their products, then by spreading the news around. it’s really awesome to see a small community fight back against cultural appropriation so successfully. i hope they carry on for a long time! But like, when this is done to cultures of color, non-white, nothing happens. Like, I’m here for the people in Bihor, but it makes me wish more work was done just like this for African countries, Asian countries, Hispanic Countries, etc. The people of Bihor did this for themselves. With the help of a Romanian magazine, they support themselves. The Romanian community posted this, reblogged this, and you saw and reblogged.  But this wasn’t done ‘for us’, work was not done ‘for the people of Bihor’. White people didn’t see this other ‘white country’, and sad ‘yes, let us help our fellow white citizens on this Earth while continuing to ignore everyone else’. The people of Romania and Bihor saw this and said ‘we must act’ and acted. Take this US-born concept of ‘cultures of color’ away from multicultural continents like Europe, where this thing does not apply. This post gained traction on facebook in Romania, from romanian to romanian, and then on tumblr (as you can see, the tumblr that posted it is a Romanian tumblr). The tumblr explaining you this, vrabia, is a romanian tumblr. Nothing is ‘work done for’. We see it, we reblog it, we did it, we’re bringing it to light.  We are doing it. It is work by, not work for. No one gave Romanian and Bihor anything. They/we did it. You want this ‘done for’ other countries? Angelina Jolie is doing it through UN. Poeple are doing it. But work ’done for Bihor’ (done by) does not invalidate work ‘done for’ other countries and cultures. Let us have this at least, after all the world took Vlad the Impaler and vilified a national hero by making him a bloodsucker.  lol that’s my old blog bless :)))))))) @petruparcatoru I WAS ACTUALLY ABOUT TO MAKE A POST ASKING WHERE ANDIIWRITES WENT : officialromaniantranslatiuni: petruparcatoru: andiiwrites: dangerdwight: vrabia: officialromaniantranslatiuni: http://www.bihorcouture.com hey friends, if you care about cultural appropriation and the damage it causes, please check out this awesome project! in 2017 dior copied the design of a traditional romanian coat from the county of bihor and sold it for 30,000 euro, giving no credit to the local artisans. in response, romanian fashion magazine beau monde helped the community create their own brand, bihor couture, which sells the original coat, handmade to order, for 500 euro a piece. they also sell other traditional clothing and jewelry for much more accessible prices (5-45 euro). they’ve been hugely successful so far, and currently have enough pre-orders to cover 4.5 years of work, with 100% of the profits returning to the community.  it’s surprisingly common for big name fashion designers like dior, gaultier, tom ford and altuzarra to copy traditional romanian clothing and sell it for ridiculous prices, with minimal original input, while giving nothing back to the community where these designs originated. it’s completely unfair that a big name designer can just steal so much hard work and misuse it to make huge profits.  please support bihor couture, if not by ordering one of their products, then by spreading the news around. it’s really awesome to see a small community fight back against cultural appropriation so successfully. i hope they carry on for a long time! epicjohndoe: It’s Like Your Body Is A Potato: l Seven Astronauts describe what it feels like to be in space.. Charles Duke Imagine your body as a potato. Now, imagine no gravity acting on that potato, and bingo: That's what space feels like. Eugene Cernan It's so inspiring to see the entire globe shimmering below you and realize that this is where prog rock started. Bernard A. Harris Jr. The best part was getting your picture taken while deadifting a 3,000-pound barbell. There's no gravity, so it's super easy to lift, but you still look really strong Eileen Collins I was looking forward to being weightless, but gravity still works for me in space. It kind of sucks seeing al the other astronauts floating around while I'm stuck orn the floor. Mae Jemison There are a bunch of extra continents you can only see from space. So far, I've counted 18 continents, but find more all the time Barry Wilmore You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror untl you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he's Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you n the command module and he's just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he's the real Ramirez Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It realy puts life on Earth into Terry W. Virts There's no golf there epicjohndoe: It’s Like Your Body Is A Potato

No but take the time to actually read it because I lost like 15 minutes. I have a friend who is really good at this type of thing.  He once found an old globe at a garage sale and he was able to pin the date of it’s making down to like a 6 month window, because it only would’ve been correct during a specific point in WWII.   I was mad impressed, because I have no mind for geography.  I can barely remember my own state’s capitol. THIS IS GOLD 😂😂😂 This is amazing. Take the time to actually read it. Holy shit the super specific things towards the end Oh wow! I didn’t know anything about the giant lake in California being created by accident?! I love how it differentiates the maps of Narnia based on which book you’re looking at I almost scrolled past this Hello?

WOMEN WERE INVENTED IN 1990: hotdadcalendar I literally can't get myself to sit through movies that don't have women. I'm like where the fuck are the women? Why are there so many men? This is boring as fuck goodbye elfman98 Even if it's historically accurate? marzipanandminutiae as everyone knows, women were invented in 1990 ranger-truth All the notes of "women weren't on old time battlefields" are wrong. There were more prostitutes and merchant women than there were soldiers in most every encampment. They followed the armies, marching alongside them, and notably ran the camps. Many more women dressed as men to fight. Long before female nurses were officially considered to be a part of the military, they were already on the battlefield They merely didn't get written into official reports because they were "invisible women", "not supposed to be there" Usually they would be local women running a makeshift care center out of their homes. Movies involving ancient societies? Guess how many had female fighters? Spies? Mostly female. Yeah, only the men were caught, usually (because nobody suspected the servant woman), but historians believe most cases had more women spies than men. Most cases meaning across time and continents. karadin Note, in most films, tv productions, even commercials, women only comprise 17% of the people in a crowd scene, any more and viewers think 'there are too many women' to be realistic - even when in real life, women are just over half the population WOMEN WERE INVENTED IN 1990
