Energy, Future, and Ignorant: Leonardo DiCaprio Calls Out Trump For Refusing to Acknowledge Climate Crisis; Says Hurricanes Should Be a Wake-Up Call @balleralert Kerry Initiative Kerry nitiative Kerry Initiative Kerry Initiative Kerry Initiative Yale Yale Yale Kem luitiative Kerry Initiative Kerry lnitiative Kerry Initiative Kerry Initiative Yale Yale Yale Yale Yale Yale nitiative Kerry Initiative Kerry Inbhi tve Ya Kathi ative Ke. Leonardo DiCaprio Calls Out Trump For Refusing to Acknowledge Climate Crisis; Says Hurricanes Should Be a Wake-Up Call – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Tuesday, LeonardoDiCaprio called out the Trump administration for their neglect to recognize the seriousness that is climate change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ DiCaprio discussed the warnings about the realities of the climate crisis during a speech at the Yale Climate Conference, saying: “Quite simply, we are knowingly doing this to ourselves, to our entire planet, and we’re risking our very future. And the cost of our inaction these past couple weeks has become even clearer.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The actor and activist highlighted the recent natural disasters that have plagued the country, the Caribbean and Mexico, and used his platform to address the administration’s refusal to act on these important issues. DiCaprio also mentioned that he met with Trump late last year to discuss a plan to combat the climate issue, however, since then “the world has watched” Trump deny the important issue. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “We listened as they said that these powerful hurricanes that we’re seeing with Harvey and Irma did not change the president’s mind about climate change,” he said. “I still believe that the United States has the potential to lead the world on this issue. We can only hope that the president begins to see it to, before it is too late for all of us.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While, Trump is to blame for turning a blind eye to climate change, he is not the only one at fault. DiCaprio also called out Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Energy Secretary Rick Perry for their role in “perpetuating the lie.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Time is up. The current events have become a global wake-up call that must be heard all the way from you to the private sector, all the way to Washington, D.C. It is too late for any of us to be timid, or too ignorant or too silent. We all have to take action together, now.”

At-St, Facts, and Heaven: The city of Melbourne assigned trees email addresses so citizens could report problems. Instead, people wrote thousands of love letters to their favorite trees Ultrafacts.tumblr.com
catz-armada:

ultrafacts:

Officials assigned the trees ID numbers and email addresses in 2013 as part of a program designed to make it easier for citizens to report problems like dangerous branches. The “unintended but positive consequence,” as the chair of Melbourne’s Environment Portfolio, Councillor Arron Wood, put in an email, was that people did more than just report issues. They also wrote directly to the trees, which have received thousands of messages—everything from banal greetings and questions about current events to love letters and existential dilemmas.

“The email interactions reveal the love Melburnians have for our trees,” Wood said. Here are some emails Arron shared.

To: Golden Elm, Tree ID 1037148

21 May 2015
I’m so sorry you’re going to die soon. It makes me sad when trucks damage your low hanging branches. Are you as tired of all this construction work as we are?

To: Algerian Oak, Tree ID 1032705

2 February 2015

Dear Algerian oak,

Thank you for giving us oxygen.

Thank you for being so pretty.

I don’t know where I’d be without you to extract my carbon dioxide. (I would probably be in heaven) Stay strong, stand tall amongst the crowd.

You are the gift that keeps on giving.

We were going to speak about wildlife but don’t have enough time and have other priorities unfortunately.

Hopefully one day our environment will be our priority.

To: Green Leaf Elm, Tree ID 1022165

29 May 2015

Dear Green Leaf Elm,

I hope you like living at St. Mary’s. Most of the time I like it too. I have exams coming up and I should be busy studying. You do not have exams because you are a tree. I don’t think that there is much more to talk about as we don’t have a lot in common, you being a tree and such. But I’m glad we’re in this together.

Cheers,
F

Source

Follow Ultrafacts for more facts!

This is adorable omg
