San Francisco 49ers, America, and Apparently: People Are Mad About Colin Kapernick Being Named GQ's "Citizen of the Year" L. @balleralert People Are Mad About Colin Kapernick Being Named GQ’s “Citizen of the Year” – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just hours after GQ announced that ColinKaepernick would be recognized as one the magazine’s “Men of the Year,” specifically coined this year’s “Citizen of the Year,” the Twitterverse nearly drowned in whitetears. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Many took to the social media platform to express their disapproval with GQ’s decision to feature the former 49ers quarterback. Others even called for a boycott of the magazine, using the hashtag BoycottGQ. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I guess it’s time to BoycottGQ since @GQMagazine named Colin Kaepernick “Citizen of the Year.” A divisive, anti-American, Racist jackass that single-handedly destroyed the @NFL isn’t a citizen, he’s a traitor,” Twitter user Hans Auf wrote. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last year, Kaepernick led the league in a protest against police brutality and racial injustices by kneeling during the national anthem. His movement sparked a widespread discussion about the former quarterback’s purpose, his subsequent extended unemployment and the league’s handling of the protests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “ BoycottGQ magazine…how dumb can you get GQ? Colin is a whiny rich spoiled crybaby and hates America. DO YOU hate America too GQ? Apparently,” Cup of Covfefe & Me wrote. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Seems GQ magazine has awarded @Kaepernick7 “Man of the Year” award. In doing so, they agree that it is perfectly fine to insult our nation’s flag, national anthem and our nation’s heroes,” Adorable Deplorable tweeted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, others were pleased with GQ’s decision. In fact, many praised the magazine for recognizing such a courageous man, who risked his career to make a difference in the world.

Blessed, College, and Football: Tom Brady Calls Trump's Comments "Just Divisive" @balleralert Tom Brady Calls Trump's Comments "Just Divisive"- blogged by @niksofly ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After the NewEnglandPatriots fought to a 36-33 victory over the HoustonTexans, TomBrady was unwilling to dive into politics during the media query. Brady didn't want to mix politics with his admiration for his teammates. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, Monday morning, Brady was willing to talk about 45's "son of bitches" comments, where he attacked NFL players who took a knee in protest of racial injustices. During his weekly interview sports radio WEEI's "Kirk and Callahan" program, Brady didn't mind delving into politics. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Regarding Trump's remarks, Brady stated , "I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When asked about whether players should kneel or not, Brady responded by saying , "I just want to support my teammates. I'm never one that says, 'Oh, that's wrong or that's right.' But I do believe in what I believe in, and I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me and that's how I try to live every day." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brady continued, "I've been blessed to be in a locker room with guys from all over the United States over the course of my career. Some of my great friends are from Florida, Virginia, New York, Montana, Colorado, Texas. I think one thing about football is that it brings so many guys together, guys that you would never have the opportunity to be around, whether it was in college and all the way into the pros. We're all different. We're all unique. That's what makes us all so special."

Memes, He-Man, and Bravo: VETERANS COME FIRST PAUL SMITH THE SOLDIERTHATSAVED100 MEN DURING SURPRISE BATTLE LIKE RESPECT Many U.S. service members have shown valor during the past 15 years of conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. The first of those heroes was 34-year-old Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith. Smith, of Tampa, Florida, joined the Army right out of high school in 1989. Over the course of his 13-year career, the combat engineer served on many fronts, including Desert Storm, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and in Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his final deployment, Smith was stationed in Iraq as a platoon sergeant in Bravo Company, 11th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. On April 4, 2003, he and about 100 other soldiers were working to build a temporary jail for prisoners at a small courtyard near the Baghdad International Airport when his task force was attacked by about 100 members of Saddam Hussein’s Republican Guard. Smith quickly rallied his men to create the best defense they could. The platoon was pinned down in the courtyard by enemy fire from a nearby watchtower and was in danger of being overrun. Smith fought hard, throwing hand grenades and firing anti-tank weapons to slow the enemy. He also evacuated three soldiers who had been wounded when their vehicle was hit by enemy rounds. Smith then ran to a damaged armored vehicle, where he manned a .50-caliber machine gun that was exposed to enemy fire. He fired more than 300 rounds at the enemy, killing up to 50 of them and leading to their retreat. Unfortunately, near the end of the battle, Smith was shot in the head and killed. Because of his selfless sacrifice, Smith saved the lives of about 100 U.S. soldiers that day.
