Russian authorities have charged the three women and one man for disrupting the World Cup and wearing police uniforms illegally. The two offenses carry maximum fines of 10,000 roubles ($161 USD) and 1,500 roubles ($24.09 USD). ___ The protest group said it was demonstrating against the abuse of human rights in Russia. The group released a statement saying the intention of their protest was to make Russian authorities: _ Free all political prisoners. - Stop jailing people for social-media “likes.” - Stop illegal arrests at protests. - Allow political competition. - Stop fabricating criminal cases and putting people in jail for no reason. - Turn the earthly policeman into a Heavenly Policeman. ___ The four Pussy Riot members came on the field during the second half of the Croatia v France match (52 minutes into the match), and lasted on the field for about 25 seconds. ___ One of the protesters engaged with French soccer player Kylian Mbappé on the field, giving him a high-five before being taken away. The male protester was grabbed by Croatian defender Dejan Lovren. ___ The three women protesters were identified as Nika Nikulshina, Olga Kurachyova and Olga Pakhtusova. Community, Facebook, and Family: MACIE U.S. ARMY ARMY IDS SOLDIER WHO DIED IN URUZGAN PROVINCE GREEN ON BLUE ATTACK The soldier who died in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan Province Saturday morning was identified as Cpl Joseph Maciel, 20. He was in Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, according to the Army Times. Cpl Maciel died in the Tarin Kowt district of Uruzgan Province in Afghanistan in what is known as a green on blue, or insider attack (as we previously reported). Two other soldiers were wounded in the attack. The incident is under investigation, so few details are available. “Cpl. Maciel was an excellent soldier beloved by his teammates and dedicated to our mission. He will be greatly missed by the entire Black Lion family. Our prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.” Lt. Col. David Conner, Maciel’s battalion commander Cpl Maciel was from South Gate, California, and had been in the Army for two years. His awards include Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Achievement Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Benning, Georgia. The Unit is called “Black Lions.” They posted the following on Facebook: “Our Task Force suffered a terrible tragedy yesterday in Afghanistan resulting in the death of one of our Black Lions and the wounding of two others. All families have been notified and there were no other injuries in the attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with CPL Maciel and his Family during this time of grief. As with any combat-related death, this incident is under investigation and details will not be discussed in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation. I ask that you refrain from speculating as to how, when, or why this occurred. The Black Lion team has been fully engaged with the Families effected and will support in any way possible. Please respect their privacy during this difficult time. The Black Lion team, along with the Chain of Command of the entire 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Benning Community remain committed to our Soldiers and their Families here and abroad.
