4chan, America, and Anime: Researchers Studied 160 Milliorn Memes and Found Most of Them Come From Two Websites A study of hundreds of millions of images from Reddit, 4chan, Gab, and Twitter reveals how memes spread. Samantha Cole Jun 12 2018,10:27am 产ブ Researchers at University College London developed a new way to measure how memes are made and spread. What they found won't surprise anyone who's peered into the darker parts of the internet in the last few years: The most toxic, yet most effectively spread, memes are first shared on two places, the subreddit r/the_donald and 4chan's "politically incorrect" forum, called /pol/ Smug Frog Meme Image Cluster 1 Cluster N Figure 1: An example of a meme (Smug Frog) that provides an intu- ition of what an image, a cluster, and a meme is. Africa, cnn.com, and Memes: White South African Woman Becomes First To Be Jailed For Hate Speech After Video Of Her Racist Rant Goes Viral; Sentenced To Three Years @balleralert White South African Woman Becomes First To Be Jailed For Hate Speech After Video Of Her Racist Rant Goes Viral; Sentenced To Three Years – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While racist, hate speech should never be tolerated, it is strictly prohibited in South Africa, as it is specifically excluded from the protection of free speech in the Constitution. In fact, according to the NY Times, back in 2016, the country released a draft law that would criminalize racism, meaning hate speech cases would go to criminal courts instead of civil and would be punishable by up to 10 years in prison. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since then, the nation has moved to implement the new rules and subsequently make an example of a white South African woman. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to CNN, Vicki Momberg was found guilty in November for crimen injuria, better known as the willful injuring of someone’s dignity in her racist verbal attack on a black police officer. The incident was caught on camera and quickly went viral. Since then, Momberg has been prosecuted and sentenced to three years in prison with one year suspended sentence, as she becomes the first South African to be jailed for the offense. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “We’ve had crimen injuria (cases before), but they have always been coupled by other charges. This is the first for a prison sentence for crimen injuria on its own,” a spokesperson said of the sentencing. “We are pleased with the sentence. This sends a clear message to those who undermine other people’s rights.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the incident that led to the sentencing, Momberg was caught on video hurling racial slurs at South African police officers after they stopped to help her after her car was broken into in Johannesburg. According to reports, she repeatedly used words that were used to insult black people during the apartheid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, Momberg will have two years behind bars to think about her actions.

Chicago, Children, and cnn.com: CNN Live TV US Army veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan has been deported to Mexico By Theresa Waldrop, CNN Updated 7:47 PM EDT, Sun March 25, 2018 “A US Army veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan has been deported to Mexico, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said. . . Perez, 39, was escorted across the US-Mexico border from Texas and handed over to Mexican authorities Friday, ICE said in a statement. . . Perez, his family and supporters, who include Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, had argued that his wartime service to the country had earned him the right to stay in the United States and to receive mental health treatment for the PTSD and substance abuse. . . "This case is a tragic example of what can happen when national immigration policies are based more in hate than on logic and ICE doesn't feel accountable to anyone," Duckworth said in a statement following reports of Perez's deportation. "At the very least, Miguel should have been able to exhaust all of his legal options before being rushed out of the country under a shroud of secrecy." . . Perez was born in Mexico and legally came to the United States at age 8 when his father, Miguel Perez Sr., a semi-pro soccer player, moved the family to Chicago because of a job offer, Perez told CNN earlier. He has two children born in the United States. His parents and one sister are now naturalized American citizens, and another sister is an American citizen by birth. . . Bad, Fail, and Goals: YOUR LIMITATIONS. F*ck that sh*t The only thing stopping you from reaching your goals and dreams are your limits. It’s when you meet your limits that you feel resistance and things you want seem harder to achieve. Whether it is fear, doubt, physical abilities or some other mental block, it can present a huge barrier to getting what you want. Unfortunately most people can’t work past their limits and give up. So how far you get in reaching your dreams is very dependent on how good you are at overcoming this obstacle. Fail to push past your limits and you’ll leave your dreams unrealized. - But don’t worry, I GOTCHA! Here are a few things you can do to say F*CK YOU to your limits: ✔️Find someone to help push you. ust that little bit of support encouraging you to keep going in the face of resistance can mean so much. Having someone on your side can counter-balance any negative thinking you might have. They can tell you to do more and push you into doing things outside of your comfort zone. ✔️Imagine reaching your next level. Working on your dreams or goals can take a lot of focus. Where you put that focus matters a lot. You might know where you are and where you were, but do you know where you need to go? Imagine that next level for reaching your dreams and take steps to get there. ✔️Inspire yourself to action. Find something that inspires you to reach your goals. Whether it is a video, quote or thought that inspires you to succeed, it should be something that fills you with passion and drive to get things done. Inspiration can be a powerful motivational tool. (One of my memes for example 😉) ✔️Work on your weaknesses. Where there are weaknesses, there are limits. Think about a marathon runner. They won’t be able to train very well for a marathon if they can’t find a good running stride or have bad nutrition. These are big areas of weakness that just makes training harder. Without correction, your weaknesses will limit how far you can take yourself. YOU’RE WELCOME! Drugs, Jail, and Memes: ethiopienne Pro-tip: white privilege doesn't mean white people have perfect lives. It means that white people do not have to deal with institutionalized, systemic racism in addition to their everyday problems. It means institutionalized, systemic racism does not cause white people's everyday problems. If your first reaction is to be angry and comment why this is wrong, take a deep breath, slowly read the post again and wait for the words to sink in. Think about what this is saying and try to deeply consider what this means, especially coming from someone who is not white. No one is saying white people have perfect lives, don't have problems, or even that there's no way they can be bullied-discrimanated against because of how they look. The difference is that racism isn't just a feeling or thought, it's INSTITUTIONALIZED and SYSTEMATIC, which means that you have laws (Jim Crow, housing discrimination, voter ID laws-voter discrimination, redlining), history, powerful figures, etc etc etc against you, not just individuals being rude to you. Yes you can be white and poor, you can be white and be bullied, you can be white and have problems. It's just that these problems are NOT reinforced by or due to a historic, systematic, institutional oppression based solely on your race-ethnicity. In the US for example, the country was built by white men with laws for white men. Over time, many of these laws have changed: ex. everyone has the legal right to vote now, slavery is illegal, Jim Crow laws no longer exist. Unfortunately, these laws don't just end; they evolve. All people can vote, yet voter ID laws disproportionately prevent people of color in poor communities from voting. Slavery is illegal, yet black men disproportionately fill jail cells and are exploited for their labor while privatized prisons profit off their incarceration (see: war on drugs, or "13th" on Netflix). I can list examples like those two all day, but the point is that people of color continue to face institutionalized, systematic racism that has legal & political backing and an entire history causing and justifying it. White people do not have to deal with that, hence the term "white privilege." And, again, no one is saying white people don't have problems. That's not what "white privilege" means.

If your first reaction is to be angry and comment why this is wrong, take a deep breath, slowly read the post again and wait for the words t...

Basketball, Friends, and Memes: Barack Obama Says That He Would Sign with the San Antonio Spurs If Ever Given the Chance to Be a Part of the NBA @balleralert Barack Obama Says That He Would Sign with the San Antonio Spurs If Ever Given the Chance to Be a Part of the NBA - blogged by: @ashleytearra ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If BarackObama was ever seeking an NBA team to sign with, the San Antonio Spurs would be the first to hear from him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During a sit-down at MIT’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston this week, when asked which professional basketball squad he would be open to join, the former President of the United States actually said so himself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “This is an outstanding fantasy. I am just basking in the scenario,” he said, referring to his long-lived basketball dreams. “I think it’s fair to say that there are organizations in the NBA that may not win every year, [but] they are focused on the team; they treat everybody in the organization with respect. That is the kind of organization that I would want to be a part of. I will say that, over the last fifteen in basketball, San Antonio would be a great example.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Obama then added, “There is a little drama popping up right now. If you look at what they’ve built, it’s just a smart, well-run operation with good culture.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to mySanAntonio, he later joked that he had to be careful, being that he does have friends who own NBA teams. However, he also mentioned the Rockets, Warriors, and Celtics as good NBA homes.

Bad, Doctor, and Head: Gabby Douglas and Her Mom Speaks Out After Man Attempted to Attack Nassar irn Courtroom: "lt's a Bad Example for the Kids" @balleralert Gabby Douglas and Her Mom Speaks Out After Man Attempted to Attack Nassar in Courtroom: “It’s a Bad Example for the Kids” - blogged by: @ashleytearra ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While many may have been rooting for the man who nearly attacked Larry Nassar at his sentencing hearing, Gabby Douglas and her mom weren’t. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Earlier today, TMZ reported that Randall Margraves-the father of three of Nassar’s sexual assault victims, went completely berserk in a Michigan courtroom, lunging at the ex-USA team doctor head-on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shortly after, Margraves was handcuffed and escorted out, but he has since been released from custody and will not face any criminal charges. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, since the incident, several opinions have surrounded the matter, including a couple from Gabby Douglas-who was also sexually violated by Nassar, and her mother, Natalie Hawkins. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When asked by TMZ how she felt about the situation, Douglas actually stated that she didn’t think it was so much of a good idea to “repay evil with evil”, and she says that is something that she will “always stand by.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, Mama Hawkins, on the other hand, had a lot more to add to that. “What’s the example it’s setting for the kids? That it’s okay to attack because somebody attacks?” she questions. “That’s a bad example. It’s not what we should be teaching our kids. We have enough violence to endure. There’s enough. Enough is enough.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hawkins then went on to indicate that, because her daughter was also a victim, she understood Margraves’ pain, but she still feels that it could’ve been handled better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “My daughter was one of the [victims],” she reiterates. “I don’t care how angry you are, the important thing is for you to maintain your emotions. It’s a bad example for the kids.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to recent reports, following the occurrence, Margraves apologized, as he expressed that he “lost control” and “felt embarrassed” afterwards.

Facts, Life, and Memes: MILLIONAIRE MENTOR THINK LIKE THERE IS NO BOX. Surprising things to do to help you to think outside the box. (Yes, you can also train your mind to do this 😉) - One of the most important skills you can have in the business world is to be able to think outside the box. You take the same information that everyone else has and look at it differently, often finding a better way to solve problems and make your business more efficient and profitable. (Just in case your didn’t know what it actually means) - ✔️Take a class. Learning a new topic will not only teach you a new set of facts and figures, it will teach you a new way of looking at and making sense of aspects of your everyday life or of the society or natural world you live in. This in turn will help expand both how you look at problems and the breadth of possible solutions you can come up with. ✔️Draw a picture. Drawing a picture is even more right-brained, and can help break your logical left-brain’s hold on a problem. Also, visualizing a problem engages other modes of thinking that we don’t normally use, bringing you another creative boost. ✔️Turn it upside down. Turning something upside-down, whether physically by flipping a piece of paper around or metaphorically by re-imagining it can help you see patterns that wouldn’t otherwise be apparent. The brain has a bunch of pattern-making habits that often obscure other, more subtle patterns at work; changing the orientation of things can hide the more obvious patterns and make other patterns emerge. 😉 ✔️Work backwards. Just like turning a thing upside down, working backwards breaks the brain’s normal conception of causality. This is the key to backwards planning, for example, where you start with a goal and think back through the steps needed to reach it until you get to where you are right now. - Do you have strategies for thinking differently?
