Black people can’t be racist.

Ugh, okay. The remark by this black woman was disrespectful and based on race. It was rude, bigoted and uncalled for.
But no, in an anti black world, black people do not have the social, political or systemic financial power to be racist. Racism implies that beyond hurting and insulting that asian woman that this black woman is connected to a system that has the power to negatively impact this woman’s existence. That dark skinned black woman who’s an incumbent running for state office likely has about the same amount of systemic power as i do.
And furthermore, there could be an argument made that deteoit is chocolate city and perhaps she does have that infrastructure of black networks to truly effect her opponent, but idk I was in Detroit last year and it looks a lot like Brooklyn does now. White and gentrified. White people with money, who control our political systems, finances, and predominant social narratives are claiming urban space like they’re colonizing pioneers looking to take the new world. Detroit isn’t the same anymore.
Anyway, black people can be shitty insensitive bigots but we do not have the social capital to be racist, particularly not in the united states.

Ahahaha: No. A congressperson is the definition of systemic power. You can’t bitch about lack of political power when we are talking about elected politician.  Clearly the world isn’t so anti-black that it couldn’t vote her in. 
Chang is also a first generation American, while Scott, to my knowledge, is not, and she specifically made anti-immigrant comments. She also has “power” within the context of her own ethnic community and she used that power to direct racism towards other African-Americans who supported Chang by implying they were somehow traitors, essentially dictating how they ought to act based on their race, particularly Chang’s husband for his interracial marriage (I don’t give a flying fuck what race you are, negative comments about interracial marriage and mixed race people are racist. period. end of story). 
Even if I did accept the prejudice + power model or racism (which I don’t as that is neither the etymology or common usage of the word) Cook’s comments would certainly fit the bill. She made race based attacks on people based on types of marginalization that she is exempt from; and did so from a position of power partially gained by the fact that she is exempt from these types of discrimination.   It’s racist. Stop making excuses.

<p>Having actually worked several minimum wage hours when I was younger, I can honestly say I got paid a fair wage for work I was doing.  I of course wanted to earn more so I could spend my money on more stuff, so I worked hard and earned a raise.  Despite this, the government always took out about 17% of my weekly earnings without my permission which did limit my spending each pay period.</p>
<p>So, yes, I did understand the solution - I did not want to keep working for minimum wage to receive minimum pay so I worked my way to a higher wage or found new jobs that paid more.  Pretty simple concept.</p>

The difference here is that I understand that I am where I am today because of privilege and circumstances not available to everyone in our country. Yes, I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am. I work hard every week as a teacher, and as the owner of a retail business. But I don’t kid myself into thinking my labor is somehow harder than the single mom working at McDonald’s. I’ve been there. Those jobs suck. I also don’t buy into this false narrative that equates wealth with harder work. If anything, I’ve noticed that the more money people earn, the less work they tend to do, because they usually end up getting others to work for them. People in the wealthiest nation on earth should not put in 40 hours a week for a poverty wage and no benefits that in turn require taxpayers to subsidize them, so they can survive. How can you not see that? How have you bought into this fantasy to the point that you think corporations making obscene profits at the expense of their employees and WE the TAXPAYERS are somehow in the right for fucking us all over, while getting you to bash the hardworking people who make their profits possible?</p>

People are all different.  They start at different places, they have different skills, different qualities, different personalities, different physical characteristics, different lifestyles, different upbringings, different education, etc.  This truth does not permit equal outcomes.  Some people will be successful with what they are given and some will not.  Some people will rise from poverty into wealth and some will fall from affluence into destitution.</p>
<p>Therefore, you were successful because you <i>chose</i> to be successful.  It was not because you were more privileged than somebody else; it was because you worked hard.  And everyone has the opportunity to work hard in order to better themselves.  So, when you create policies to theoretically “prop someone up” in order to give them an “equal” advantage, you are not doing anything to change this.  They are ultimately the arbiters of their own destiny.  </p>
<p>Minimum wages helps no one.  It is an artificial price floor to distort the market in favor of groups.  That’s why the unions <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/carriesheffield/2014/04/29/on-the-historically-racist-motivations-behind-minimum-wage/#3cbee6a11957">originally created it</a> and that’s why they promote it today while also <a href="http://www.economics21.org/commentary/unions-exempt-themselves-minimum-wage-hikes-05-28-2015">exempting themselves from it</a>.  It is because I understand these inconvenient truths that I do not support the minimum wage.  And I find it quite sad that a supposed “business owner” would not understand the concept.  But then again, what would you expect from someone who’s blog tagline is, “<i>The Revolution will not be televised. This is a treatise against the oligarchy. Fuck the rich. Let’s make America a true democracy</i>.”  That’s some edgy teenage socialist lingo right there.</p>

<p>Having actually worked several minimum wage hours when I was younger, I can honestly say I got paid a fair wage for work I was doing.  I of course wanted to earn more so I could spend my money on more stuff, so I worked hard and earned a raise.  Despite this, the government always took out about 17% of my weekly earnings without my permission which did limit my spending each pay period.</p>
<p>So, yes, I did understand the solution - I did not want to keep working for minimum wage to receive minimum pay so I worked my way to a higher wage or found new jobs that paid more.  Pretty simple concept.</p>

I work hard every week as a teacher, and as the owner of a retail business. But I don’t kid myself into thinking my labor is somehow harder than the single mom working at McDonald’s. I’ve been there. Those jobs suck. I also don’t buy into this false narrative that equates wealth with harder work. If anything, I’ve noticed that the more money people earn, the less work they tend to do, because they usually end up getting others to work for them. People in the wealthiest nation on earth should not put in 40 hours a week for a poverty wage and no benefits that in turn require taxpayers to subsidize them, so they can survive. How can you not see that? How have you bought into this fantasy to the point that you think corporations making obscene profits at the expense of their employees and WE the TAXPAYERS are somehow in the right for fucking us all over, while getting you to bash the hardworking people who make their profits possible?</p>
<p>As to your last comment about the minimum wage and inflation - why not? What’s your argument, “fool?” Because not only has minimum wage not kept up with inflation, neither have middle class wages. <p>This entire argument boils down to the lousy myth of “privilege”.  “Yes, I worked hard but I luckily had more advantages unlike other people.”  Boo hoo. People are all different.  They start at different places, they have different skills, different qualities, different personalities, different physical characteristics, different lifestyles, different upbringings, different education, etc.  This truth does not permit equal outcomes.  Some people will be successful with what they are given and some will not.  Some people will rise from poverty into wealth and some will fall from affluence into destitution.</p>
<p>Therefore, you were successful because you <i>chose</i> to be successful.  It was not because you were more privileged than somebody else; it was because you worked hard.  And everyone has the opportunity to work hard in order to better themselves.  So, when you create policies to theoretically “prop someone up” in order to give them an “equal” advantage, you are not doing anything to change this.  They are ultimately the arbiters of their own destiny.  </p>
<p>Minimum wages helps no one.  It is an artificial price floor to distort the market in favor of groups.  That’s why the unions <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/carriesheffield/2014/04/29/on-the-historically-racist-motivations-behind-minimum-wage/#3cbee6a11957">originally created it</a> and that’s why they promote it today while also <a href="http://www.economics21.org/commentary/unions-exempt-themselves-minimum-wage-hikes-05-28-2015">exempting themselves from it</a>.  It is because I understand these inconvenient truths that I do not support the minimum wage.  And I find it quite sad that a supposed “business owner” would not understand the concept.  But then again, what would you expect from someone who’s blog tagline is, “<i>The Revolution will not be televised. This is a treatise against the oligarchy. Fuck the rich. Let’s make America a true democracy</i>.”  That’s some edgy teenage socialist lingo right there.</p>

<p>Social Darwinism is a theory based in the notion that environments shape the groups within those environments. Basically, ensuring that the group most capable of survival in that environment will ultimately inherit it.</p>
<p>I don’t quite understand what this has to do with politics — But I am assuming the Liberals have taken a racial edge to this long-held component of biology. In that case, I’d simply laugh and remind them that it was the Republicans who freed the slaves, and ensured the Constitution [pesky little bugger] protected them to the full extent of which it protected every other person who stepped foot on American soil.</p>
<p>The Democrats [confederacy] were responsible for the push for the dehumanization of non-whites, and formed the original KKK.</p>
<p>Still — Somehow the Tea Party is racist for wanting to encourage the independence of every American citizen, and not perpetuate the emotional bondage of historical victimization and Government dependency of African-Americans and other minorities.</p>
