(Why do so many of my big work projects revolve around Valentine’s programs?) Also, by “sea bugs,” I obviously meant “gnathiid isopod larvae.” The himan one is not as good as the rest If you mean the mutualism between humans and honeyguides, I respectfully disagree. Human/honeyguide mutualism is one of the most sophisticated interspecies relationships in the animal kingdom. While humans have domesticated many other animals for their labor, the honeyguide remains entirely wild while electing to partner up with humans. Both humans and honeyguides have each developed specific calls to signal to one another that they are on the hunt, and these calls greatly increase the likelihood of success. According to this paper: The production of this sound increased the probability of being guided by a honeyguide from about 33 to 66% and the overall probability of thus finding a bees’ nest from 17 to 54%, as compared with other animal or human sounds of similar amplitude. That’s fucking bonkers, you guys!!! There are people out there who over the course of human history have created a sound to communicate with birds, and the birds themselves have a Human Call they use to communicate with us. There is no other wild animal you can just make noises at and immediately communicate that you want it to come help you!!! What’s more, many scientists consider this relationship more exploitative on the honeyguide’s end than on our end! That’s unprecedented!! These birds have essentially negotiated a trade deal with humanity!!!! This is the stuff of fantasy movies, except it’s real. Here’s an article from The Guardian about the broader implications of this kind of relationship with wild animals. It’s a good read: Apart from with our gut bacteria, we humans don’t really have any mutualistic relationships with other creatures. There is no special tune that we can sing to magically attract nearby hedgehogs into our gardens to feast on slugs. There will never be a special wink that fishermen can offer otters, encouraging them to catch fish that we might then de-bone for them, in return for some of the catch. The world is poorer for this. OKAY BUT the noise we make at honeyguides is one of my favorite noises there is, and if y’all haven’t heard the “BRRR-HM?” call that hunters use to summon honeyguides you are SERIOUSLY missing out. There’s an audio clip on the Audobon Society’s article about them [link] @metalpaca : I HAVE TINY CRUSTACEANS STUCK IN MY GILLS! I'M HUNGRY FOR SEA BUGS! Jay-Z and Roc Nation to Invest $3 Million in App That Combats Mass Incarceration-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Jay-Z and Roc Nation will reportedly make a $3 million investment in an app called Promise, that combats mass incarceration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ According to the website, the app was created by Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins and Diana Frappier to “get people out of jail and provide ongoing support and supervision to help keep them out.” The hope is that the platform will exist as an alternative to incarcerating individuals who cannot afford bail or who miss court dates by mistake. It will provide services to users that will help them log upcoming court dates, counseling appointments, and drug tests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ When it comes to rehabilitation, Promise plans to provide programs to users that assist with job training and getting information about housing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ As a rapper, Jay-Z has used his platform to consistently speak about how the jail system is designed to fail those of low class and people of color. Last year the rapper wrote an opinion piece on Father’s Day about the exploitative bail industry. For many individuals, they are jailed due to their inability to afford bail, despite not being convicted of crimes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ During an interview with TechCrunch, Ellis-Lamkins spoke on the small infractions that lead to many people of color ending up behind bars. “People are going to jail because they look at a piece of paper and misread it, or are going to jail because they can’t afford a class because they’re instead paying child support. If we’re putting people in jail because they’re poor, brown or black, we’re spending money the wrong way.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “We are increasingly alarmed by the injustice in our criminal justice system,” Jay-Z said in a statement confirming his involvement with the app. “Money, time and lives are wasted with the current policies. It’s time for an innovative and progressive technology that offers sustainable solutions to tough problems. Promise’s team, led by Phaedra, is building an app that can help provide ‘liberty and justice for all’ to millions.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀: Jay-Z and Roc Nation to Invest $3 Million in App That Combats Mass Incarceration @balleralert Jay-Z and Roc Nation to Invest $3 Million in App That Combats Mass Incarceration-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Jay-Z and Roc Nation will reportedly make a $3 million investment in an app called Promise, that combats mass incarceration. Sometimes life throws so many curveballs at us. It prevents us from being happy and free-spirited. I really want to reach out and help people break free of certain negative patterns in their lives, so I’ve created Sixpenceee Heals. I am an extremely intuitive and empathetic individual. I will never judge or disclose any of your problems to anyone. I will help you transcend confusion, and self-limiting beliefs so that you can be the best version of yourself.

Here’s how it works:

You shoot me an e-mail at sixpenceee@gmail.com, saying you’d like to participate in the Sixpenceee Heals program. Please include “Sixpenceee Heals” on the title line.

I will send you a short survey that you can fill out, that will let me know more about you. It’ll help me to pick up patterns and habits that may not be so clear to you.

You will type up all your major/minor doubts, anything at all that you want clarity on in the present time.

I will take out time to write you an individualized and personal report that will really help and guide you. I will include resources if you need.

I will also keep in touch with you and follow up with you. I will do my best to help you with the cards that you’ve been dealt.

Some regulations:

The pricing is $30 per person.

I will only be taking 10-15 people a month because I will really be spending a lot of time on each person’s reports. It’s a first come-first serve basis.

This is not in any way a substitution for mental health or medical treatment.

Thank you guys for reading and I really hope to be of service to you all.

I know your heart is in the right place but this is rubbing me the wrong way for multiple reasons.

This is kind of exploitative. You can’t ask people to spill their worries to you and then charge them $30 for it. It just doesn’t seem right. It’s taking advantage of someone who is so desperate that they’ll go to a horror blogger rather than a professional, and yes, I know that this rate is cheaper than practically any therapist but this brings me on to point 2:

You’re not qualified. At all. As far as I can tell you’re college aged. You need to have qualifications to act as a therapist to someone and as far as I know you don’t have any psychological qualifications. Psychology is a wide subject and even fully trained therapists focus on a few particular aspects. They specialise. You have no training at all, and yet you’re charging for advice? This seems so wrong to me.

This is a lot of pressure and it doesn’t seem appropriate. You don’t know what people are going to confess to you and you don’t know if you’re going to cause yourself distress. Even therapists have therapists, because what they hear can be so troubling that it puts them at risk of stress related breakdowns or depression. They’re in a very desperate place and to make them rely on you when you have no training and, at best, generic Google resources that they could probably find themselves is really not a nice thing to do. You mean well but again, you’re not qualified.

It’s dangerous to give advice to people with issues when you only know the bare minimum about them. Therapists and other professionals spend a lot of time with people and really get to know them face to face before they start building up a potential plan. You want to have people fill out a survey and exchange a few emails and write them a report like one of those weird agony aunt websites. It’s not enough.

It’s sort of naive that you think the advice of one unqualified college student (I’m assuming, from your posts) will help and guide people. You mean well but see the above point – if you don’t have a lot of context and knowledge and you’re not qualified, even the most well-meaning advice can be dangerous. Especially when it’s in regards to subjects and issues you have no experience with.

This would be a really lovely thing to do if you were just offering an ear but you’re taking so much responsibility and putting so much liability on yourself. You’re also providing paid therapy services to people when you have no qualifications, and that’s just so exploitative to me. If you want to help people lend an ear, but you can’t charge for being a friend. You certainly can’t charge people for services you have no right to be giving.

I know you mean well but please think about this.

: SIXPENCEEE HEALS
v1als:

sixpenceee:

Introducing Sixpenceee Heals

So I noticed how unhappiness can really plague us.

You are completely untrained with no professional support system. You cannot be 10-15 people’s therapists.

It’s not fair to the people you talk to. Half of my family is from Puebla and we don't even celebrate this day other than remember the ass-whopping we gave to the French and that we stood up to white supremacy and European colonizers. Brief history about CincoDeMayo: in 1861, Mexican President Benito Juárez issued a moratorium in which all foreign debt payments would be suspended for two years. In response, France, Britain, and Spain sent naval forces to Veracruz to demand reimbursement. Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico and withdrew, but France, decided to use the opportunity to establish a colony and exploit the Mexican people. This is why black money needs to start going into black businesses... Great and properly run black businesses though not just any old black business because I've experienced some that were just not serious and it was such a shame *sighs* anyway like I was saying... stop going into these kind of stores when you know the owners love to exploit your people but would judge you as soon as your armpit makes an appearance in the store and would probably never allow people that look like you to have a seat at their table... imagine this was your marge or sister... oooo the angry spirit that lived in O-doggs braids from the movie menace to society would embody itself within my feet and help me march to that store and receive more than just an apology: This black woman was kicked, choked and thrown to the ground after being accused of stealing. I'm sure many people were surprised at the comments made by this man . He appears to be Polynesian and acknowledges he is an ethic minority yet he still held racist views against blacks in general. This phenomenon is more common than one might think. I grew up with neighbors that were from Honduras and El Salvador in New Orleans and we got along great. Yet as I got older an traveled more I started to see how Dominicans treated Haitians , how Cubans treated blacks in Miami . Wherever Hispanics had a ethic majority they were just as racist if not more than whites in some cases . They will practice housing and employment discrimination on Jim Crow levels if possible. Black people are some of the most loving and supportive people willing to show empathy and ride for people that would exploit them in a heartbeat. It's not just Hispanics, Jews , Arabs and , Asians behave in the same manner whenever possible. Black people are the mules of society and the black woman carries the largest of the burden . Many ethic minorities may have a black friend or spouse but still view the race as a whole as inferior . I'm sorry for pointing this out but I felt it needed to be said . 17thsoulja BlackIG17th Lastly even some Caribbean and African blacks don't like African Americans. The black American is truly culturally alone in the world. Isolated by design forced to assimilate simply to survive. OrphanedAfricans: MOST RACIST MOMENT worthy review.com ON TV EVER!
