Too many have died for the way they have loved. That needs stop now. Make it stop? I did a report on this in my World History class my sophomore year of high school. It was incredibly unsettling. My teacher shown the class this. Mostly everyone in the class felt uncomfortable. I have reblogged this in the past, but it is so ironic that it comes across my dash right now. I a currently working as a docent at my city’s Holocaust Education Center (( I say currently because I’ve also done research and translation for them )) and out current exhibit is one on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum ((USHMM)). Apparently, this wasnt taught in schools in the 70s-80s, cuz when I mentioned it to my mom, she had no idea that gays were held in concentration camps. She thought it was just jewish people.

Books, Fire, and Music: Summer arrived. Summer made things hot, and both Adam and Ronan smelled more in the summer, though they didn't seem to notice or care Ronan accidentally started a fire in one of the smaller outbuildings, and although this started out shouty it ended up wild and joyful, with both Adam and Ronan hurling things into it while music galloped in the background. Adam's car got off the blocks and almost immediately re turned to them. There were a lot of mice, which Opal enjoyed catchin and occasionally eating. The cloud lady continued bringing books and foods to the bench by the creek and also began to bring a suitcase with tubes that went in her nose, which was interesting and made Opal stick things up her nose for a few days after she first saw it. Adam got one o the Lynch family's old backhoes running again and dug a strategically placed hole out in one of the fields. A natural spring slowly began to it and an unnatural hosepipe finished the job; the boys stripped an leapt into the resulting body of water on the hottest of days. Opal did not want to swim but Adam taught her until she was fearless, and then Ronan threw buoyant objects for her to fetch until he got tired of being on the shore. He had dreamt himself a pair of tattered black wings that did not quite hold him and he used them now like a temporary diving board, letting them lift him half a dozen feet fore dropping him with a muddy splash. Opal floated on her back anod kicked her legs like Adam had shown her to do while the boys clung to each other in the water and then separated. The heat in the air made everything smell and look more like itself. Everything was very good over the water be- Summer had animalness in it, though, just like a human, and so it too eventually had to die maggie-stiefvater: x

We don’t need to further extend a policy of “intolerance” requiring shutting people down or justifying attacking them because of their “unacceptable” views.
Calling people out for their bullshit works infinitely better than constantly trying to shut them down. All you do then is convince them that they are martyrs and if they’re being persecuted for their beliefs they must be right. But if you actually call out the flaws in their argument, even if you don’t change *their* mind, you may sway someone who was considering their point of view before.

Advice, Anaconda, and Asian: STEAMPUNK &other genres thewritingcaf
nimblesnotebook:

Guide to Writing Steampunk

BASICS

Punk Genres: most common genres are in italics

Atomicpunk: Optimistic retro science fiction based on the Space Age. Think The Jetsons.

Biopunk: This genre is about altering genetics and DNA. These stories often take place in the near-future in which humans have been altered or in which human experimentation is common.

Candlepunk: Similar to clockpunk, but darker and with less technology.

Clockpunk: Think Da Vinci’s inventions, but more advanced while. This genre follows the aesthetics and technology of Western civilization during the mid to late middle ages, though sometimes it’s set in the Victorian era.

Cyberpunk: Has advanced technology and often focuses on artificial intelligence and the cyber world. The setting is often near-future rather than far-future. Blade Runner is an example.

Dieselpunk: Based on aesthetics and technology between World War I and World War II, sometimes up until the Cold War.

Decopunk: Ranges from the aesthetics of the 1920’s to the 1950’s. Decopunk aesthetic is heavily based on modernism. Less gritty than dieselpunk.

Elfpunk: Basically urban fantasy, but with common high or epic fantasy creatures put in an urban setting rather than vampires and werewolves.

Nanopunk: Similar to biopunk, but biotechnology is less available and nanotechnology is common.

Sandalpunk: Set in ancient worlds, such as Rome, but with advanced technology.

Splatterpunk: Extremely graphic and contains a lot of gore.

Steampunk: This genre gets its name from the heavy steam-powered technology involved. Aesthetics are based on the Victorian and industrial eras of the Western world, though other cultural elements may be used.

Western Steampunk: Similar to steampunk, but with Western (as in Wild West) aesthetics and settings.

So why are there so many sub genres? For starters, they help agents and publishers get an idea of what they’re in for if you’re going through the traditional publishing route. While bookstores usually just put these genres within science fiction or fantasy, you can still market your book through sub genres to reach a specific group of people who are looking for these genres.

However, there are a lot of sub genres, most of which many have not heard of. If you’ve written one of these genres and intend to publish it, the best would be to put it under another name (with the exception of steampunk, cyberpunk, and biopunk). For example, if you have written a candlepunk story, you can propose it as fantasy, alternate historical fiction, or any other genre it may fit in. While atomicpunk is quite common, it’s not well known by that name. If you have written an atompunk story, the best way to market it would be to call it retro science fiction.

But what’s the difference between punk genres and historical fiction? The technology is a big difference. It’s usually more advanced for the time it’s modeled after.

TECHNOLOGY

The technology is one of the defining aspects of steampunk. It’s the basis for the world you’re writing in. For the typical steampunk story, technology will be (of course) steam powered.

A Guide to Steampunk Gadgets and Technology

Airship

Steampunk Airships Inspiration

Steampunk Blimps

Technology Steampunk Instructables

Steampunk Technology Inspiration

How Steampunk Works

Steampunk Gadgets

100 Functional Steampunk Gadgets

CHARACTERS & FASHION

Another defining feature of steampunk is the aesthetics and the characters. It shows that perhaps one of the most evil men in history, was a human being. That, on occasion, he could be nice, even flirty. That’s not all. You want to see evil people as evil, screaming horrible stuff over a desk with 20 microphones with 20, 000 people saluting them. The evil is clear and recognizable then. This shows a completely different image, it scares you because that means that evil isn’t a stereotype, that evil is not recognizable, that evil could be anyone. It scares you because this shows that could be lurking inside anyone and you’ll never ever know. Maybe in you?

i reblogged this literally like 2 minutes ago, but i want this version because of that comment ^

That comment is one of my favorite post commentaries, because it’s completely right. People aren’t inherently evil. Like good, it’s a role they grow and live into. We have just as much potential to destroy as this man exhibited. And it’s a very eye opening experience to realize that.

does anyone even remember that one time hitler attended that luncheon between world leaders, some guests of which even included china’s socialist leader as well as Stalin. And then when they were ordering, everyone was gladly ordering impressive dishes one after the other, but Hitler placed an order for barley tea and a pheasant (considered a peasant’s meal by standard). When he was questioned as to why he would order something like this in something as grand as a world leader’s congress, he replied,

“I don’t smoke when my people cannot smoke, and I cannot eat when my people are going hungry.”

He wasn’t evil for its own sake, let’s try to remember that despite the countless murders, but for a moment, he did actually believe he was doing something for the good of his countrymen.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE

No, he’s right. Hitler, though extremely wrong in his views, did everything for what he thought would better the lives of his people. It was wrong. It was disgustingly, horribly wrong. But he did not do it because it was evil and he was evil. He did it because he believed it would help Germany and those who needed a better life. Those who don’t understand or even try to understand the human brain will always label men like him as ‘evil’ because it is easier to accept. But he wasn’t ‘evil.’ He felt love and loyalty and responsibilities. He simply took these aspects and morphed them into a twisted, violent thing.

Tumblr is probably the only place we could have this conversation and not be lynched.

dang son

“Every villain is a hero in his own mind.”

― Tom Hiddleston

I love every thing about the comments.

When you have to reblog a bunch of “hurt dürr Hitler was bad” bullshit because OP deleted the post. .-.

this is awkward

that moment when you want your favorite beloved ruthless dictator Nazi racist who is responsible for the arguably the biggest tragedy of the millennium is criticized by people on an internet site so you can’t reblog a post to romanticize an absolutely fucking evil man

he still was a human being though. We have to confront that. He wasn’t a single-minded robotic monster from a bad YA novel.

Ah *inhales* fresh Hitler Discourse™
