America, Comfortable, and Family: She Was the Richest Black Girl in the World and It's a Shame We Barely Know Her Name Did you Know? Sarah Rector-By the age of 10, she became the richest Black child in America. She received a land grant from the Creek Nation as part of reparations. Soon after, oil was discovered on her property. By 1912, the revenue from this oil was $371,000 per year (roughly $6.5 million today). Despite various attempts to steal her land and fortune, Sarah resisted. She went on to attend Tuskegee University and eventually settled in Kansas City, Missouri where her mansion still stands. Her name was Sarah Rector. She was a young black girl born in Indian Territory in 1902. Her parents were Joseph and Rose Rector, all of Taft, Indian Territory. Her story is similar to that of Danny Tucker another black child born in Indian Territory. He, like Sarah had a humble beginning, and he, like Sarah would make headlines for sudden wealth acquired by oil rich land. Early in her life, she received a land allotment like all who were members of the Creek Nation. Like thousands of blacks once held in bondage by the Five slave-holding tribes, (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Nations) she and her family members received land allotments prior to Oklahoma statehood. It was a general practice that Freedmen often receive land considered to be of less value for farming as did citizens declared as Indians By Blood, and Inter-Married Whites. However, the story changed when oil was discovered on her land allotment, near Taft, Oklahoma. Her wealth caused immediate alarm and all efforts were made to put the child Sarah under "guardianship" of whites whose lives became comfortable immediately. Meanwhile Sarah still lived in humble surroundings. As white businessmen took control of her estate, efforts were also made to put her under control of officials at Tuskegee Institute. Much attention was given to Sarah in the press. In 1913, there was an effort to have her declared white, so that because of her millions she could ride in a first class car on the trains. Sarah's life continued as she began to get offers of marriage from around the world, and efforts were made to move her to Tuskegee. Because of the attention of the black press, her life eventually took a better turn, when individuals stepped in to intervene, and obtain a better lifetstyle for her. Not much is written about her adolescence, but it is know that she did attend Tuskegee Institute, and after she completed her studies there, she moved to Kansas City. In 1922, she married Kenneth Campbell. They were known to have many real estate holdings in the area. She and her husband purchased a home that still stands today in Kansas City. -blackpast.org SarahRector theblaquelioness

Being Alone, Beautiful, and Creepy: 17:17 1 13 hrs I often eat alone at a Wendy's that's just down the street from my house. A little less than a week ago, I noticed that they hired a new employee. She's a fair skinned woman who, for the sake of not violating a pending order of protection, we'll say is named Michelle. I was fond of her from the moment I first saw her. I immediately went home and scoured the internet to find out more information about her. I figured this way I'd be able to learn her interests and engage her in conversation regarding them l remember initially thinking to myself that it's a shame how name tags don't include last names. All I had to go on was her first name and location, yet thanks to Facebook's ability to search by city and state, I was able to find her after just a few hours. Once I did l realized I hit a goldmine; her phone number was visible to everyone, not just Facebook friends. Most women are scared to give out their number to a stranger because they don't think they're trustworthy, but if someone asked you out on a date after looking you up and learning your phone number without you having to tell them, you'd likely be far more trusting of that person since they already know your personal info. You'd have nothing to lose. That was my line of thinking, anyway. After obtaining her phone number I figured I'd try to do something romantic that would build up to me asking her out. I decided to use an app that would let me text her without revealing my actual number. The app allowed me to change my number at will O Write a comment... GF) )> 7 17:17 1 3 app allowed me to change my number at will, essentially making it unblockable, which I thought was a good idea since she might think it's just one of her friends messing with her and block it right away. This would grant me the ability to remain a complete enigma to her. "Once a day," I told myself. "Only text her once a day so it isn't creepy." Sadly, I was far too excited at the prospect of having my first girlfriend to stick to that. My first text to her was simply, "l saw that picture of your graduation you posted. You're beautiful." Later that day while I was sitting in the Wendy's parking lot I sent her another text that said, "l can see you right now. One day you'll see me, too." Before I knew it I had texted her over three hundred times in just a few days She never once responded to any of them. Still, not all messages contained text, some were just pictures of her that l took while she was at work to let her know that I was actually there Some of you may have noticed that I wasn't online at all yesterday. There is good reason for that. Yesterday was the day that I met her in person and tried to ask her out. It didn't go as planned. I walked up to Michelle while she was at the counter and told her that I'm her admirer. Her cheerful expression changed as she suddenly started shouting, "This is the guy! Marco, this is the guy!" Marco is her manager. He jumped from behind the counter and grabbed me while instructing her to call the police. I bit his arm hard enough to draw blood, but he did not release me O Write a comment... GF) )> 7 17:17 1 13 hrs while instructing her to call the police. I bit his arm hard enough to draw blood, but he did not release me until police arrivedd The police said that the detainment was lawful, which meant that I was to be charged with battery for biting the manager in addition to stalking. This amounts to almost $500 in fines. Thankfully, father told me he'd take care of it since I'm currently unemployed. The police also told me that she's filing for an order of protection, so l can't return to that specific Wendy's. Father told me to keep my chin up and to remember that some women just aren't worth it. He said that If she thinks having a guy flatter her and think about her all the time is something to call the police over, then she must be "one of those nutty feminists." After spending some time thinking about it, I realized that he's right. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself that it's not you, it's them O Write a comment... The title isn’t the most eloquent thing ever but the article wasn’t encouraging cheating, where you go behind your partners back, but instead looking at the issue of cheating as a not black-and-white thing where there’s one horribly evil person who just wanted to have fun/get laid with one traumatized-for-life victim. Instead, like most- nah, let me say with ANYTHING in real life beyond fiction, the article sees the grays in cheating and why the person cheated in the first place. Not to say that cheating isn’t a horrible thing to do, but I feel like people need to understand that there are reasons people do the things they do. People who cheat are human beings. They could feel horrible about it, they could be trapped in a marriage or relationship that they don’t feel they can escape, they can feel insecure and unloved. Again, not to say it’s something you should ever do, but dehumanizing someone over a mistake is just as bad in my opinion. There’s nowhere where they can talk about their experiences, and it’s likely we know a lot of people who have cheated in our lives even if they haven’t (or were too scared) to tell us about it.

“dehumanizing someone over a mistake”

If you cheat, you’re trash. No if and or buts. I’m looking at all y'all, I’m lookin in the mirror, I’m lookin down the street, everydamn body. I love the rationale of this and other similar things that says, “If you do a bad thing you are a bad person. Forever. There is never anything else you can do to not be a bad person.” It has such an interestingly Christian vibe to it.

First of all that image set is a lie. There are different scenarios that come together that can lead to this mistake. Also it is defining “mistake” the same way as “accident”. Of course cheating isn’t generally an accident. But, immediately it lumps in people that are not in full faculty of their senses. “You got too many drinks with him”. I’m going to put a big “No” stamp on that because if the shit you do when inebriated can’t be considered proper consent in the first place then you did not intentionally cheat (*unless it was premeditated while sober obviously).

Now let me tell you up front. I cheated once in college. Yes I know I’m trash for life with no chance for redemption but hear me out anyway. I loved my boyfriend, probably a lot more than I should have. But one night I was woken up by someone knocking on my door. It was my apartmentmate. My incredibly hot, straight, wrestler apartmentmate. He was horny and he wanted to just get off even if it was with a dude. It was like a cheesy impossible porn plot come to life. We had sex. Never once, through the entire thing, and I swear this upon everything I hold dear, never ONCE did I think “I have a boyfriend. This is wrong.” I was so caught up in the shock and fantasy of the situation it wasn’t until he left that I realized what I’d done. I was horrified. I cried and cried and as soon as the sun was up I called my boyfriend and asked him to come over. When he got there I immediately broke down sobbing and begged for him to forgive me. He did, and we moved on. And you know what? I NEVER did it again in any relationship. Did I mean to cheat on him? No. Did I? Yes. Was what I did wrong? Absolutely! Do I regret what I did? Endlessly. Does that make me horrible trash for the rest of my life? I really don’t think so.

People do things wrong. People do make conscious choices that they later realize were wrong. People ask for forgiveness. If someone does it multiple times, it’s not a mistake anymore. If someone conceals their mistake, it’s not a mistake anymore. But if someone genuinely acknowledges they did something wrong and asks for forgiveness and NEVER allows it to happen again, I think that forgiveness should be granted. And you know what? I’ve been cheated on twice since then by different guys in my life. It hurt, horribly. Both times it was an ongoing and intentional thing. But if either of them apologized to me and asked me to forgive them and showed they would sincerely never do it again I would give them a chance anyway.

Tumblr, I love your desire for justice and truth both socially and personally. But when you break everything into black and white and refuse to grant any room for forgiveness you are teaching yourselves to cut people out of your lives that could be legitimately good people that made a bad choice and deserve forgiveness. Of course there are people that don’t deserve it, who wouldn’t sincerely try to earn it, but if you say everyone who makes 1 bad choice, or 1 series of mistakes, is trash forever then I think that makes you the bad person when you are incapable of granting kindness and forgiveness to another person.

Lmao did she really think anyone wanted to read her porno fantasy story justifying cheating?
