Community, Drugs, and Lottery: $52 Million Lottery Winner Will Rebuild Historically Black Neighborhood: "There is a need, and in my mind, an obligation, to invest there." @balleralert $52 Million Lottery Winner Will Rebuild Historically Black Neighborhood: “There is a need, and in my mind, an obligation, to invest there.” - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 2010, MiguelPilgram was the winner of a $52 million lottery jackpot that enabled him to start his own real estate company, ThePilgramGroup. Now he plans to use his winnings to build up properties across south Florida, specifically, a well-known Main Street named SistrunkBoulevard that was once a wealthy area for African Americans. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sistrunk was often referred to as the “historical heartbeat of Fort Lauderdale’s oldest black community,” which is located right in the middle of most of the city’s black businesses. The area was named after JamesSistrunk. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ James was a black physician who helped found the first Black hospital in Broward County in 1938, when segregation laws prohibited Blacks from entering the east side of the tracks where they could be seen and treated in “white” hospitals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Post-desegregation, the area started to lose its high economic status and became a haven for gun violence, abandoned buildings, and drugs. However, Pilgram recently bought three buildings he plans to make into a jazz lounge, blues lounge, restaurants, and a center for performing arts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “For me, it’s [about] preserving the community as a whole,” Pilgram told an NBC local affiliate station in South Florida, adding that Sistrunk was once a hub of “success for businessmen.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Along with Pilgram, Edduard Prince, community activist and legal specialist says outside developers are “drooling” to invest in Sistrunk which, like similar cases, will strip the neighborhood of its history and culture while pushing out current residents. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pilgram’s plan is to do the exact opposite. He wants to develop the location while keeping the culture and its people there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I was raised in a similar environment,” he told The Sun-Sentinel. “There is a need, and in my mind, an obligation, to invest there.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now that’s, ForTheCulture.

Apparently, Children, and Friends: D.L. Hughley Opens Up About The Tragic Death Of His Son, Who Was Conceived During an Affair @balleralert D.L. Hughley Opens Up About The Tragic Death Of His Son, Who Was Conceived During an Affair – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last week, D.L. Hughley sat down with Angela Yee and friends on her ‘Lip Service’ podcast to discuss his longstanding success and his outlook on life, amid the trial and tribulations throughout his career. During the conversation, Hughley divulged about the tragic death of his son, who was conceived through infidelity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “So I had knocked this chick up and she had the baby and the baby got killed by her boyfriend,” the comedian revealed. “So, it was a horrible, horrible experience. I had this baby I’m paying for. I’m a boy. I’m scared. I’m married. I’m just starting out my career, and I get a call from my boy and he said, ‘Your son is in the hospital,’ and I go…So I get to the hospital, and this boy was lying in the bed and apparently her boyfriend had shaken him and damaged his brain.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Amid dealing with the tragic loss of his son, the comedian explained how he divulged to his wife his infidelity, in addition to a baby and now, the death of the baby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I knew that one day I would be man enough to tell my woman what happened,” he said, adding that he believed children should never be left without a parent. “Finally one day, I tell my wife. You know what she said to me? ‘I wish you would’ve told me and we could’ve went through this together.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Years after finally revealing his affair and subsequent loss, the comedian and his wife ran into the then-mistress at the airport. He then introduces his wife to the woman, to which his wife says to her, “I’m so sorry for your loss.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hughley then revealed that the incident changed how he interacts with other people and ultimately brought him closer to his wife. He now takes into consideration how his actions affect others.

Head, Memes, and Money: Utah Nurse Reaches $500,000 in Settlement Money After Being Arrested for Doing Her Job @balleralert Utah Nurse Reaches $500,000 in Settlement Money After Being Arrested for Doing Her Job - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A Utah nurse was aggressively arrested this past July for doing her job. She has now reached $500,000 in settlement money with Salt Lake City and the university that manages the hospital where she works. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On July 26th, AlexWubbels was arrested for refusing to let DetectiveJeffPayne draw blood from an unconscious patient who was involved in a car crash. Payne's body cam footage shows him man-handling Wubbels during the conflict. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wubbels explained to the detective that he's required to have a warrant or the patient's consent before blood is drawn. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "I’m just trying to do what I’m supposed to do, that’s all,” said Wubbels, the head nurse of the hospital’s burn unit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wubbels' answer wasn't good enough for Payne, so he pressured her more. When she still refused, Payne chased her down and handcuffed her as she screamed for help. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not only was the detective fired from the Salt Lake City Police Department last month but his supervisor, James Tracy, also got a little piece of justice - he was demoted for assisting Payne with the arrest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And Wubbels' keeps adding to her good deeds list. She's decided to use her settlement money to help people obtain body cam footage and will donate a portion of the $500,000 to the UtahNursesAssociation and to support the national EndNurseAbuse campaign.

Fall, Family, and Life: Woman Killed After 12-Year-Old Boy Jumps Off Overpass and Lands On Her Car @balleralert Woman Killed After 12-Year-Old Boy Jumps Off Overpass and Lands On Her Car – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A 22-year-old woman was killed in a 12-year-old boy’s apparent suicide attempt. According to reports, the young boy jumped from an overpass above Interstate 66 in northern Virginia, falling onto a car, killing the driver, Marisa W. Harris. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The collision occurred Saturday after the young boy slammed onto the Ford Escape. Police say the impact of his fall killed Harris instantly, she was later pronounced dead at the scene. The young boy was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Harris’ boyfriend was in the car at the time of the incident, managing to steer the car off the road upon impact. He was not injured in the incident. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ironically, Harris was studying clinical counseling at Marymount University, as several members of her family are psychologists. If given the opportunity, the young boy would have been a person she helped through his mental instability. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The incident is under investigation, as officials are investigating it as an attempted suicide.

Memes, Anxiety, and Hospital: Tyrese Checks Himself Into Hospital For Anxiety After Child Abuse Hearing, Claims Daughter Was Coached To Go Against Him @balleralert Tyrese Checks Himself Into Hospital For Anxiety After Child Abuse Hearing, Claims Daughter Was Coached To Go Against Him – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Thursday, Tyrese checked himself in to Cedars-Sinai for chest pains and anxiety. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to TMZ, the singer has been stressing out over the court case concerning his 10-year-old daughter. The court hearing went on for hours, in his ex-wife’s attempt to get a permanent restraining order against him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Norma Gibson, has argued that Tyrese has physically abused their daughter, and now has someone following her. She told the judge that she fears Tyrese “at times,” since he has put hands on her in the past. However, Tyrese has denied all claims, saying Gibson is just bitter about him being remarried. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, the entire situation seems to be taking a toll on the singer, all together. According to TMZ, the singer says Gibson’s restraining order is based on a story his daughter was coached into telling. The singer has filed docs, saying, the only evidence Gibson has against him is Shayla’s story, which makes him believe the 10-year-old was told to go against him. Although he hasn’t accused Gibson of coaching Shayla, he says it happened while in her care. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In addition, he says the only domestic incident that occurred between the former couple was when Gibson texted him, saying, she wanted to have his fingers cut off. However, Gibson admitted to sending the text.
