Lady, i have 2 degrees on this. I literally have walls of books on the history of food. White people didnt rape, colonize, steal, or destroy anymore than the Chinese did. And i doubt you would be okay saying this about Asians. People tended to use less seasoning back ghen because food was bred and grown differently. Things like chicken and beef had way more natural flavor, so additional seasonings werent really needed. In fact, for some places, seasonings were typically used by the poor, who were left with bad tasting scraps. Other places had them solely for the rich, since non native spices were incredibly expensive. Just like with Japanese culture, food culture in European cultures are often rely on tradition. Traditional methods are used, even if obsolete from newly available ingredients. It’s why old traditional methods of wine and cheese making are still used today. In fact, simple flavors and limited seasonings are available in a large amount of African dishes. The whole “white people dont season their food” stereotype originated in the US, and is clearly wrong, since European immigrants brought over tons of well seasoned and loved food like pizza, sausages, gyros, literally a ton of well known french dishes. I mean most southern cuisine came from French immigrants, and African slaves and paid servants (who at the time didnt even have access to most spices) simply copied those. The only real nuance is the addition of peppers and things like nutmeg and corn (originating in the americas) which European immigrants had already been using in their recipes. ( Actual soul food that can be entirely credited to African Americans is limited). The point is that the caricature of white people’s cooking being unseasoned is a very real part of reality for other cultures. Japan prides its traditional food with simplistic flavors. As in minimal or no seasoning. So any mocking you have for white people, equally (if not moreso) applies to the Japanese. You clearly don’t think it’s okay to say these same things to Asians, so it is clear that it isnt the action itself that you have a problem with, but the race doing it. Youre a racist. How Snobbery Helped Take The Spice Out Of European Cooking I dont think you even read this. It clearly states that while Indians (and it only relies on indians, not the mentioned Japanese or really any other Asian country) focus on curry, while Europeans often focused on gravies and sauces. Italian sauces for instance relied on fresh herbs (not spices), while French sauces relied more on stocks. Once dried peppers came over, many countries used paprika to season their stews, and others regularly used rosemary, bayleaf, thyme, and pepper. It’s really odd that you would compare any country’s use of spice to India’s. Essentially anyone’s would use less spice in comparison. In fact, as shown in the link, India is known for contrasting flavors using odd spice combinations that most countries (including non european) would never use. It doesnt really prove your point. It just shows that you really dont understand how these things work. Your grasp of history is poor, because according to your other posts, you actually think white people invented racism. You keep mentioning atrocities Europeans committed and act like they are the only ones who did them, which gives you permission to be racist. You are the one who doesnt understand history. And you do not understand food culture among European countries. You are just driven by stereotypes and opinion peices. ITS NOT FUNNY. You pay us to scare you. It is your choice to go, so don’t fucking go through if you’re going to ignore the rules and get too close to the actors as a ‘joke’. These bruises happened because over the course of 4 hours, several people ignored the instructions that CLEARLY stated that they were to wait in the front room until told otherwise. Rather than listen, they ran into the next room and slammed into me- effectively throwing me into the wall. This didn’t only happen once. It happened ten times at LEAST. Then we had this asshole who thought that once I ‘died’ for the haunt, he could pretend to kick me to see if I’d moved. I, being used to people abusing me- jumped back and slammed my head into the concrete wall. YOU ARE NOT FUNNY BY BEING RUDE AT A HAUNTED HOUSE. WE ARE PAID ACTORS THAT YOU CHOOSE TO COME AND SEE PERFORM. YOU PAY US TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, SO DONT HIT US WHEN WE DO I feel that this is relevant considering it is October and more Haunted Houses are opening up. I know it seems funny to scare the ‘monsters’ but all you do is hurt real people. So stop. It’s not even October but I’m still spreading this SIGNAL BOOOOOOOOSSSSSTTTTT!!!!!!! Now Yeah…your director may want to consider reblocking We don’t have a director? Or blocking??? It’s a haunted house bro, not a play Reblogging for relevance- I work at a Haunted House every October, and have been for the past few years. Our house in particular is staffed by Volunteer workers who are either earning credits for Graduation, or people who know the Family that owns the haunted attraction. In our City, we’re one of two Haunted Houses, so while we open in late September, we tend to get incredibly busy during the month of October and often work from 6pm until 2, 3am on weekends.  We do not get paid to help out. Due to our location, we get a lot of drunk guys coming through, and a lot of ‘funny’ teenagers. In my several years working there, I’ve seen Actors get grabbed and thrown, stomped on, kicked, bitten, everything. A lot of the Actors at this attraction are young teenagers, Middle and Secondary School students, so this kind of abuse is terrifying and potentially emotionally scarring. There’s a position half-way through the house we call ‘Psych Ward’, and it’s essentially a jump scare. The scare is a corner-room, boxed in with walls and broken windows, that the Actor pops out of and shouts and taunts the people going through. October, 2012, a couple were going through the Psych Ward corner and the scare went off as per usual. The girlfriend of this couple got very startled but laughed it off and continued on. The boyfriend, however, back-tracked and went up to the broken window and punched the Actor in the face for scaring his girlfriend. The Actor, who I’m going to call Tracy, had a black eye for a good two weeks solid and the couple had to be escorted out of the house and were banned from the property. Ever since we’ve ruled that Veteran Actors (someone who’s been there for 3+ years) are the only ones allowed in this particular Scaring Spot. He paid to get scared and then got violent when we delivered. There are so many stories I can tell of ignorant customers banging back on scares and injuring the Actors inside, grabbing props from the actors and hurting them with it, destroying props because they thought it would be ‘funny’.  I just want to raise awareness that the ACTORS ARE STILL PEOPLE. We’re instructed to get the best kind of scare out of you, sometimes with no pay at all (like this particular attraction), so please respect our work. We wouldn’t come to your job, mock you, and push you around trying to be ‘funny’. Don’t come to our job and do that to us! I literally cannot believe people are angry over this post saying “don’t fucking beat up actors” I work at a haunted hayride and a guy tried to dropkick me in the chest and knee me in the face because he thought it was funny. I got in trouble for breaking character to tell him to fucking stop. Ive been hit so many times this season it has left cuts and bruises. Back in 2015 I was fucking choked and dragged behind a wagon because a lady was drunk and her son had to pry her hands off me because IM NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH YOU OR FIGHT BACK. Most recently, a customer groped my breasts and twisted my fucking nipples. Apparently, she did it to AT LEAST twenty other actors. THAT IS SEXUAL ASSAULT YOU ASSHOLES. ITS NOT OKAY. We may be playing monsters, but we are NOT monsters. Also, please remember to keep your hands off of us during your haunting, and also please try to step in or speak up if you see people trying to touch us, assault us, or talking about planning to touch or hurt a staff member. They don't get someone entering the middle of their body, often tearing it when they do, they don't get someone else's possibly diseased body fluids dumped on their internal membranes, and they don't get pregnant from rape. When men get raped they are violated but the consequences and damage are a tiny fraction of those that women endure. ґт tired of men saying they get just as abused as women. They do not and they have no reference point to say they do. You all say you’re so accepting and you don’t want to offend anyone, but then thousands of people reblog something like this because Christians aren’t the minority. You wouldn’t want to offend a Muslim, and if this were offensive to them or another minority, there’d be so many comments about it. But everyone is completely fine with offending a non minority. “You’re not oppressed, you can’t talk!” You know what? I’m a Christian and this offends me and my faith, but nobody’s going to care about that because I’m not oppressed. Tumblr is hypocritical and that needs to stop. Amen to the comment Oh my precious lambs: Examine why you are being offended. Because this is literally how a sunset works. There is not room for debate on this question. There is less room for debate on this than there is on just about any other thing. We are not reblogging because Christians aren’t the minority, dear ones. We are reblogging because after the debate a few days ago, creationists were given the opportunity to pose a question for non-creationists. One of these questions was: “How can you explain a sunset if their is no god?” (sp.) Questions, we assume, are posed so that someone might answer them. And yes, there is an answer of how exactly one can explain a sunset given the absence of a divine force. Now, you can certainly posit that God is the creator of all things and so all things came from him including the sun and light refraction and anthrax and kittens and famine and all that jazz. But you don’t get to deny that THIS IS HOW A SUNSET WORKS, and of the necessary elements of this equation (Sun + Atmosphere + Angle = Sunset), God is not one of them. That’s because everything else is an observable phenomenon, and God is not. You can explain a sunset without God. You can go ahead and believe that God’s part of it all. That’s cool. Lots of people believe stuff like that, and I encourage you to delve into the ways that people make science and their faith jive. But if you are offended by being shown the basic scientific principals behind a sunset, you must be offended by damn near everything. And that seems exhausting.  In short: “science offends me” The thing is, the question of “how can you explain X if there is no God?” is posed in some cutesy little snide way which actually says, “Oh you sillies, you can’t explain anything without God!” This is why she and Creationists are being mocked.  Not because they have a faith or a set of beliefs, but that they’re so arrogant in thinking their beliefs are “truth” when basic, provable, factual, supported science says otherwise.  And furthermore, they’re taking that level of ignorance to an extremely dangerous and destructive place by trying to inject it as a equal substitute for science, which is an incredible detriment our society and needs to be stopped.  I literally cannot reblog this fast enough. Beliefs are one thing, and everyone is free to believe what you want, but science is fact. Science started because we, as people, didn’t understand things, so we researched and learned and figuring stuff out so that the things we didn’t understand we understood. Scientists didn’t just make this stuff up. They’ve spent decades discovering the world and learning how it works so that we can grow and discover even more! What makes me sad about some creationists is that they want to deny these things. It’s like there’s a fear of learning, a fear that if they uncover the truth of the matter, all their beliefs will be ruined and God will no longer exist. These scientific facts exist, and you’re still welcome to believe there’s a God. That’s okay! But don’t deny science and decades of human study and replace it with “God did this” because you don’t want to understand how amazing our world is and how it works. Huh. Guess I could have reblogged that faster had I not typed all that. I STAND CORRECTED. [learning intensifies] Tl;dr “their” typo not mentioned once In conclusion:Science offends Christians.Christians need the explaination that you cannot deny science and that thus was just answering a question.Christians have to be told that they are mocked because they express that nothing can be explained without their beliefs, and not because they aren’t oppressed.Everyone got so pissed at the realization that some Christians don’t know this, that they didn’t even point out a mistake. Some Christians are downright annoying.(BTW: I’m not a hater.
