I know people think chickens are herbivores but they absolutely arenā€™t.
Chickens are omnivores. They eat meat, they eat eat all sorts of fruits and vegetables.
This isnā€™t really well known to people who live off of farms or who have never spent time on one. Itā€™s also thanks to tv and movies not showing this side of chickens.

That crow is more prepared than some of my students.

Youā€™ve all just like, completely skipped over the possibility that this crow has seen people using pens in this room, found one, and is trying to return it. Thereā€™s been videos of crows picking up sweet wrappers and stuff and placing them in bins after seeing humans put their litter in bins. I really do believe that this crow is trying to return the pen and that is ADORABLE AS HELL.Ā 

THEY ARE SO SMART I LOVE THEM

Crows are thought to be self aware by some scientists. Its perfectly possible the crow wants to return the pen to humans. Knowing it belongs to humans.

Corvids. Who KNOWS. :)

Another cool crow deal: Once, when trying to assess if crows could reason and use tools, scientists had two crows who didnā€™t know each other each take a wire from a table (one was hooked, one was straight) and try to grab meat from a bottle with it. The crows could see each other, though they had separate bottles. Only the straight wire worked for this, so they hypothesized that if crows could reason, the second trial would have the two crows fighting over the straight wire. The second trial started and, to the surprise of the scientists, the two crows both went for the bent wire, one held it down and the other unbent it. They both got meat out of their bottles. They came to a peaceful solution without verbal communication. Crows are probably smarter than we are.

Letā€™s see you little punks smash my letterbox now

This reminds me of this guy who used to live on my dadā€™s street. Ā 

Every time it snowed, the snow plow would take out his mailbox - and only his mail box. Ā And just to be clear - it was done intentionally. Ā No one knows why, but the driver of the snow plow would target his box and mow it down. Ā Heā€™d call the DOT to complain, and would get an earful of excuses that amounted to ā€œnot our fault you have a wimpy mailbox.ā€ Ā 

Fast forward to the next winter. Ā First decent snow starts falling, and every kid is hoping for a snow day. Ā It was right around 4:30 am that the whole neighborhood was woken up to this loud CLANG and the screech of tearing metal. Ā My dad made it to the window first and started laughing his ass off.

Sitting out side was one very totaled, and almost ripped in half, snow plow. Ā And these werenā€™t little pick-up trucks with a blade on the front, we have these up in NY:

Well, turns out over the summer, my dadā€™s neighbor got himself a backhoe and sank a steel I beam into the ground in his front yard. Ā Then he covered it with a decorative wood sleeve and topped it with a brand new mailbox. Ā When the snowplow driver tried to mow it down it was a bad case of immovable object meets unstoppable force - and the mailbox won. Ā With the plow firmly impaled on the I beam, it was very clear that the driver had gone out of his way to hit it. Ā 

Naturally, the DOT wasnā€™t happy, and the neighborā€™s reply was simple: ā€œNot my faulty you have a wimpy snowplow.ā€ Ā They did try to sue him for the damages, but as he had gone to the town, gotten approval for the post and its installation, and made sure everything was up to code, it was thrown out pretty quick. Ā 

And for anyone wondering about the driverā€¦ Ā He was fine. Ā His job and tighty-whiteys ā€¦ not so much.


That is a very satisfying read.

This reminds me of this guy who used to live on my dadā€™s street. Ā 

Every time it snowed, the snow plow would take out his mailbox - and only his mail box. Ā And just to be clear - it was done intentionally. Ā No one knows why, but the driver of the snow plow would target his box and mow it down. Ā Heā€™d call the DOT to complain, and would get an earful of excuses that amounted to ā€œnot our fault you have a wimpy mailbox.ā€ Ā 

Fast forward to the next winter. Ā First decent snow starts falling, and every kid is hoping for a snow day. Ā It was right around 4:30 am that the whole neighborhood was woken up to this loud CLANG and the screech of tearing metal. Ā My dad made it to the window first and started laughing his ass off.

Sitting out side was one very totaled, and almost ripped in half, snow plow. Ā And these werenā€™t little pick-up trucks with a blade on the front, we have these up in NY:

Well, turns out over the summer, my dadā€™s neighbor got himself a backhoe and sank a steel I beam into the ground in his front yard. Ā Then he covered it with a decorative wood sleeve and topped it with a brand new mailbox. Ā When the snowplow driver tried to mow it down it was a bad case of immovable object meets unstoppable force - and the mailbox won. Ā With the plow firmly impaled on the I beam, it was very clear that the driver had gone out of his way to hit it. Ā
