every day the same telemarketing company calls us. Iโ€™ve asked to be taken off their calling list, Iโ€™ve tried to be civil, Iโ€™ve even tried to not answer the phone, yet theyโ€™ll keep calling. So nowย Iโ€™veย resorted to making the phones calls as annoying as possible for them.
Today I asked the person to hold while I got a pen and paper. As of now, theyโ€™ve been waiting 45 minutes.

I just asked him if he was still there, then when he said yes i told him i had found a pen but no paper, but that iโ€™m still looking. Itโ€™s been an hour.

?????? why is it be fucked up to have compulsory voting? thatโ€™s the way it is in most democratic countries? itโ€™s a part of being a citizen, like paying taxes and obeying speed limits? the fine for not voting is only like $50 and because of the compulsory voting law, our country bends over backwards to make it accessible: itโ€™s always on a weekend, lasts most of the day, and is set up at schools and community centers so thereโ€™s one within easy reach of almost everybody. you can also mail your ballot or vote early if youโ€™ll be out of the country on the day. like, ITโ€™S EASY TO VOTE, and the penalty isnโ€™t even that ridiculous. i donโ€™t understand why the usa doesnโ€™t have this, except obviously it would make it harder to literally stop minorities from voting.

I think we Americans tend to forget that a lot of other countries donโ€™t actively work to make it harder to vote.

Adding to this here, in Australia you donโ€™t have to vote. Or, more precisely, thereโ€™s no way they can tell if you ruined your ballot.ย You have to turn up, get your name marked off, but you can put a line through the ballot if you donโ€™t think any of the candidates are worth voting for. Or do this:ย

You have get your name crossed off (if you donโ€™t want to wear the fine), but you donโ€™t have to make your vote counted if youโ€™re opposed to it.ย 
And it is so, so easy to vote. Stuck at work or on holidays? Thatโ€™s fine. Do a postal vote. ย Stuck in hospital? Thatโ€™s fine. Theyโ€™ll go to you. Stuck in an old peopleโ€™s home and canโ€™t get around? Again, theyโ€™ll go to you. Itโ€™s amazing to me that itโ€™s so hard for so many Americans to actually vote. If you make it compulsory, than at least the government is obligated to provide you with the means to vote.ย 
And look, I get it. Sometimes I donโ€™t want to vote either. But I suck it up, I walk three minutes down the street, and I hope that this year theyโ€™re selling lamingtons again. Oh, and I buy a democracy sausage, which, even if all the candidates suck, makes the effort of turning up pretty worthwhile.ย 

ALSO, you can see even on the fucked up ballots that you NUMBER  CANDIDATES IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE. Thereโ€™s no need to calculate whether I would be throwing away my vote on the candidate that I most agree with if theyโ€™re not from a major party. I can say, I want that independent person to get in, but if not them, give me Big Party A, and if not them, that minor party person is still better that Big Party B, and Iโ€™m not giving any preference to the Lunatic Fringe Party. 
Our system certainly has some issues still, but I can show up to somewhere nearby, line up for a few minutes (if at all), vote exactly in line with my values (on paper, leaving a paper trail that can be recounted), and then buy a sausage and some home made cupcakes on my way out. 
A countryโ€™s voting system matters a hell of a lot and every citizen deserves one that makes it easy to vote and results in a government that is representational and accountable. 
And by the way, one time I had a bad asthma flare-up on Election Day and didnโ€™t make it to my polling station. I got my fine in the mail, I filled out the form explaining why I couldnโ€™t vote, no more fine. I would rather have, you know, expressed my preference for who should run my country, but they were cool with the fact that I couldnโ€™t do it that day.

Huh. Scary. Thatโ€™s not something I ever thought about.


Why the anger? Itโ€™s just something that Iโ€™d also rather not think about, and because I am not self-absorbed, I never thought I was interesting/pretty/known enough to have it happen to me. I am aware these things do happen though. When I once reverse image searched some of the selfies I posted in the past, I found things like, people using them as their profile pictures on things like that Ask site but also LinkedIn (scarier), reposting them to Instagram, reposting them here. I donโ€™t mind stuff like having them reposted, but claiming to be me is where I draw the line.

I disagree. The makeup is clearly reflective of traditional Geisha makeup which is yellowface and therefore racist. Furthermore, the girl is wearing a kimono, a garment that has for ages carried cultural significance. Assuming that she is white how can you think this is ok? And cultural appropriation isnโ€™t a thing? What rock do you live under? I suggest you educate yourself on the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.

A vast majority of Japanese people actually enjoy other people making an effort to spread and enjoy japanese culture, and encourage it. Many make businesses in deliberately taking pictures of people in kimono. A common omiage (gift) for foreigners from japanese people is traditional japanese things such as kimonos, tea seats, shisa dog statues, ect. 
And to top it off, basically 80 percent of japanese customs, traditions, and food, came from other countries. Japanese is an integration of different cultures, like america. Japan takes influences from places like korea, china, russia, and europe. If japan stuck to itself, there would be no tempura, japanese tea, tea ceremonies, kabuki, japanese bread, japanese curry, j- pop, anime, cars, or modern fishing techniques. The picture is not โ€œyellow faceโ€ they are not making fun of asians. In fact, it looks like they put extra care and research into their work. 
The only reason that you have a problem with this is because that little girl is white and you know that it is acceptable on tumblr to crap all over white people. The only racist here is you.

Recently a museum in Boston came under a lot of fire for allowing visitors to wear aย โ€˜kimonoโ€™ (it was featuring a painting my Monet of a girl โ€“ a white girl โ€“ in a kimono, and the museum had replicas made that guests of ANY RACE could wear to mimic the painting, Pageant-of-the-Masters style). After protests and heated debate, the museum closed the event.
I was living in Japan at the time, and out of all the *actual* Japanese people I asked, not a single one was offended by the event. Rather, they were excited that people half a world away were showing interest in their culture, and were sad that visitors could no longer enjoy the event.
This party, though somewhat silly in application, is an attempt at experiencing and appreciating another culture. The mom who put this together is not an expert on Japan, but she did her best. She got a lot of things right: there are few things Japan loves more than tea, Pocky, and sakura.ย 
Where do you draw the line for who isย โ€œallowedโ€ to learn about Japan? If the girl were of Japanese descent, would that make it ok (even though her citizenship would be the same as the girl from the photo)? If one of the girlโ€™s parents were from Japan, then would it be ok?ย 
Are you only allowed to make pizza if you live in Italy? If youโ€™re an Italian immigrant? How do we decide these things??
You canโ€™t say you want to dismantle racism and then in the next breath make rules โ€“ based on race โ€“ for who people can wear, try, or eat, especially when the intent is obviously to have fun experiencing a culture (as opposed to having fun by making fun of a race or culture, like blackface does).ย 
When you tell people they can only experience things โ€˜meant for their raceโ€™, it totally smacks of segregation to me and I canโ€™t stand it. As someone who (obviously) loves Japan, I say let people learn about it, let people experience it, let people appreciate it. You donโ€™t have to know every single thing about a culture to enjoy it.

Thereโ€™s been a little bit of interest in Jagged-Tooth, Cousinโ€™s first born son. A specific question was about his first meeting w/ Shepard, which I was gonna go on about, but I might make a comic about it later. So have a few sketches.ย Jagged-Tooth:ย 

A rare Yautja Biotic, an elite Enforcer, and despite a rocky relationship w/ his father, he risked dishonor and punishment to join a faction of Yautja that went against the clanโ€™s decision and went to aid Shepard. They meet when he arrives during the Battle for Palaven as surprise back up. Capable, dry, could be considered friendlyโ€ฆunless youโ€™re Garrus.(When your dadโ€™sย โ€˜favorite sonโ€™ seems to be someone who isnโ€™t even his fucking son, and who you think is a total dweeb, youโ€™re not gonna be happy about that, I guess)He takes after his mother more than his father, though has his fatherโ€™s intensity and skill, if only Cousin were more forthcoming w/ praise for that (he does recognize it, though he is very critical of his son and always being hard on him). Their relationship is that of an accomplished child with a father who has incredibly high expectations. That means that their relationship is very rocky.ย This started when he was young, as his path diverted early from Cousinโ€™s hopes and plans for him. Not many Yautja are taught to develop their biotic abilities, and due to there being some contention over whether or not biotics are respectable in the Hunt tradition, the training is more often than not discouraged. But Jagged-Tooth went into training, and instead of becoming a traditional hunter, went down the line of enforcement. Cousin still hasnโ€™t fully recovered from that disappointment.ย Joining the Yautja faction during the reaper war is the first time that Jagged-Tooth has ever had to operate under his fatherโ€™s lead. well this isnโ€™t necessarily a bad point. there are games with great stories and really awful shoehorned fighting sequences. then you also have handicapped/disabled gamers who donโ€™t necessarily have the dexterity to finish a game but would still like to be able to.
optionalย โ€œcakewalkโ€ modes arenโ€™t that bad of an idea.

what if i want to just see the story of the game and dont want to actually play it? like??
as it is i would never pay for a bioshock game or a fallout game but i am very interested in the story. so i just watch youtube videos of it. they could get money from me if they sold the skip combat mode

iโ€™m a games developer and an avid gamer and i really really think games should let you skip combat

honestly one of my favourite things about la noire was when you failed a sequence twice the game was like โ€œyo do you just wanna skip this bit?โ€the gaming industry/community has a huge problem with accessibility tbh. like, thank god for standardised control schemes (although bring back full customisation jfc  not enough games have that anymore) but fights require time, literacy in both that type of gaming & in the individual game, you need to be able to navigate the system which can be anywhere from slightly difficult to hellish for people with visual/audio processing disorders. and tbh sometimes you just wanna enjoy the story and not get stressed the hell out doing the sAME FIGHT 700 times. itโ€™s why i always put a game on easy/casual when Iโ€™m replaying unless  iโ€™m specifically going for difficulty based achievements.not to mention SO MANY GAMES have either poorly designed battles or fights that have been shoved in for no reason other than to pad out the game (dxhr & da2 come to mind immediately) that sometimes itโ€™d honestly improve the gameplay to just skip them altogether

Imagine if you were a gamer with arthritis or MS or some other disability that took away your ability to click buttons quickly, and every fight became as frustrating as THAT GODDAMN DA: ORIGINS OH FUCK Iโ€™M ON FIRE SLIDE PUZZLE.ย

And that experience should be more accessible.
Because SHOCKINGLY: games arenโ€™t always about winning, or being good at it. Itโ€™s about having fun. This is kindergarten education here.

Why the hell shouldnโ€™t games let you skip combat if you want to? Why shouldnโ€™t there be a super-duper-easy-peasy mode for everything? No-one is gonna force YOU to play it like that if you donโ€™t want to! Continue to be as hardcore as you like!
I just donโ€™t understand the resistance at all. What weโ€™re talking about is simply having more options for gamers. Youโ€™re adding something that would make games more accessible and fun for loads of new fans, and youโ€™re not taking ANYTHING away from existing fans.
Likeโ€ฆdo youโ€ฆnot want more people to enjoy these games?? Do you really hate the idea of other people having fun so much that youโ€™ll rile against it even when it literally has no effect on you or your experience whatsoever?? Are you honestly that selfish??

I am *horrifically* bad at gaming, but itโ€™s a genre that Iโ€™m intensely interested in and very desperately want to be more immersed in. I would HAPPILY buy so many more games if combat was a skippable option.ย 

Not to mention one of the best indie games out right now is pretty much telling you if you want the best ending, donโ€™t fight.



Yeah, I hate the elitist mentality that only those ~*~*hardcore*~*~ enough should be allowed to enjoy video games. I mean, gaming should be an experience to be had and not just an obstacle to clear, right?Then again, my poor mental health situation and chronic pain+mobility issues on my right hand means that my gaming options are severely limited nowadays. Iโ€™ve had to stop playing certain games because all the button mashing aggravated my carpal tunnel pain, and I rage quit some because they had a super frustrating part that I could never get past. Games should be fun, not a test of endurance. At least, they should let you skip the difficult parts you are unable to do. They can still have a hardcore mode for people who enjoy a challenge. They would still get to brag about their accomplishments without preventing others from enjoying an otherwise fun game.



Unpopular opinion but just watch the game on youtube then? Why spend money when you donโ€™t get the full experience?

The thing about video games (particularly RPGs or in general games that allow you to explore or direct the story) is that the interactivity is what makes it different from movies or watching LPs on youtube. And Iโ€™ve played games that got FAR stronger emotional reactions out of me simply because I had to carry out the actions myself rather than just watching. And that experience should be more accessible.
Because SHOCKINGLY: games arenโ€™t always about winning, or being good at it. Itโ€™s about having fun. This is kindergarten education here.

Yeah, it always baffles me when I see people react so negatively to a perfectly reasonable suggestion like this.
Why the hell shouldnโ€™t games let you skip combat if you want to? Why shouldnโ€™t there be a super-duper-easy-peasy mode for everything? No-one is gonna force YOU to play it like that if you donโ€™t want to! Continue to be as hardcore as you like!
I just donโ€™t understand the resistance at all. What weโ€™re talking about is simply having more options for gamers. Youโ€™re adding something that would make games more accessible and fun for loads of new fans, and youโ€™re not taking ANYTHING away from existing fans.
Likeโ€ฆdo youโ€ฆnot want more people to enjoy these games?? Do you really hate the idea of other people having fun so much that youโ€™ll rile against it even when it literally has no effect on you or your experience whatsoever?? Are you honestly that selfish??

I am *horrifically* bad at gaming, but itโ€™s a genre that Iโ€™m intensely interested in and very desperately want to be more immersed in. I would HAPPILY buy so many more games if combat was a skippable option.ย 

Not to mention one of the best indie games out right now is pretty much telling you if you want the best ending, donโ€™t fight.



Yeah, I hate the elitist mentality that only those ~*~*hardcore*~*~ enough should be allowed to enjoy video games. I mean, gaming should be an experience to be had and not just an obstacle to clear, right?Then again, my poor mental health situation and chronic pain+mobility issues on my right hand means that my gaming options are severely limited nowadays. Iโ€™ve had to stop playing certain games because all the button mashing aggravated my carpal tunnel pain, and I rage quit some because they had a super frustrating part that I could never get past. Games should be fun, not a test of endurance. At least, they should let you skip the difficult parts you are unable to do. They can still have a hardcore mode for people who enjoy a challenge. They would still get to brag about their accomplishments without preventing others from enjoying an otherwise fun game.



Unpopular opinion but just watch the game on youtube then? Why spend money when you donโ€™t get the full experience?

I watched a lot of gameplay and playing some of the games myself have a very different feels to it



Understandable but why waste money on a 70 bucks game if you cut out like 30 or 40 percent? Thatโ€™s not worth it
