America, Anaconda, and Asian: Justino Mora @JustinoMora 1 New is 1 of 100 undocumented students in medical school in the country. He's 1 of few #DACA students at @Harvard University. New is also an activist & a plaintiff in the federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration that helped bring a portion of DACA back to life. New emigrated from Thailand to the United States’ San Francisco Bay Area when he was nine years old and is now a recent graduate from the University of California-Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. . Recently, he delivered a powerful speech at @TEDxBerkeley available for y'all to watch here: bit.ly-new-tedx-speech . Throughout college, he funded his education with part-time jobs and private scholarships while staying involved in groups such as the Thai Student Association, Resident Hall Assembly, and the AB540 Coalition on campus. . Off-campus, he served as a first co-chair of ASPIRE (Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education) at Asian Law Caucus, where he advocated and fought for the passage of the federal and the CA DREAM Act of recent years. Most importantly, he continues to speak out as an Asian undocumented youth to increase visibility of API communities in immigration reform, re-frame the public’s perception, and create a community for other API undocumented youth. . New also co-founded Pre-Health Dreamers in hopes of alleviating the barriers he has faced for future undocumented students pursuing their dreams in the health and sciences. . As an aspiring medical doctor who is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health at the School of Public Policy at Harvard University, New seeks to remedy the barriers that low-income and immigrant families of America face in accessing healthcare. His time volunteering with the homeless through the Suitcase Clinic and with Oakland’s low-income communities as a Healthy Ambassador of Mentoring in Medicine & Science exposed him to the stories of different communities, but also the struggles shared by all of them. . New aims to become a physician who practices medicine through a public health lens, using primary care, research, and policy to shape health for the individual and the community. daca cleanDreamAct HereToStay immigration undocumented dreamactnow

Do you hear me? It has left me thinking about the decision I made to go off to college to pursue a career in….. well, that may just be the problem. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now before you all jump down my throat, this conversation excludes those who went to school for education, medicine, accounting, engineering, and-or computer science, or any other field of genius..ism. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For those who did not go to school for any of the above, now that you’ve graduated and are doing what you’re doing, was it really worth it? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ More recent than not, the thoughts of all the money and time that were wasted while at an institution to get this degree that everyone told me I needed has been heavy on my mind. It’s a known fact that now more than ever, people are starting up their own businesses, and financing their lifestyles via niches and trades of their own. No degree in sight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here I am, a recent graduate, and on a hunt for work. Because of this, I now wish I was less naive when I was graduating from high school. Being Alone, Family, and Future: Daughter of Honduran immigrants is now pursuing a career in medicine at Harvard University! Repost @karlaaaxoxo: "My grind comes from seeing my mother, a TPS recipient from Honduras, struggle and sacrifice everything so that I could have a better life. Witnessing her pain, tears, sacrifice, effort, hardwork every single day while she still sustained her elegance, dignity, and character as a woman filled me with admiration of her. Una luchadora! I never saw her laying in bed feeling sorry for herself, never complained, always smiled and rose her head high! Despite all the odds stacked against her, her strength and ability to push HARDER than how she started fuels me. NEVER in my life will I ever allow anyone to classify me & my future through stereotypes & statistics! I wasn't born with a shining crown nor was anything ever given to me in a silver platter, no one in my family even attended a university let alone pursue a carrier in medicine and none still don't even speak English but through my circumstances in life coming from nothing. I'd be damned to settle for anything less than great! Mi mami broke chains, left Honduras to give me a better future. I raise my voice loud and proud to those who's family migrated so we can graduate, the minority, the underdogs, to those who fight against all odds daily, the ones who are breaking chains, those who were seen to never even have a future & instantly labeled to become another statistic GUESS WHAT! We have become men and women with a vision, educated, far from the norm, we have become people determined to influence & change the world."
