Drugs, Pressure, and Soccer: E55 ESST RONALDO ฤฐ Now that both these legends are out of the World Cup, they are both going to be severely criticized for being unable to lift that trophy, and are going to be consistently compared to both Pelรฉ and Maradona who were able to lift the trophy 3 times (pele) and once (maradona). The point I want to make with this post to all of those who say that Ronaldo and Messi are NOT the GOATโ€™s because they never lifted the World Cup and that Pele and Maradona are better is that that perspective is simply wrong. Ronaldo and Messi are by far the best and most consistent footballers the world has ever seen. Whether itโ€™s insane talent and gift with Messi or sheer hard work and the greatest mentality of anyone ever with Ronaldo, Messi and Ronaldo are the most consistent and GOAT-ly footballers of all time. Yes, Pele helped popularize the sport, and his role in that is undeniable. But the sport has changed since then. The level of pressure, amount of competitions, and standard of opponents make the game completely different today compared to when he played. Futbol then isnโ€™t the same as Futbol now. As for Maradona, the same critiques apply, although obviously to a lesser extent. But with him, while he did carry Argentina to a World Cup title, that was simply one amazing World Cup, and isnโ€™t enough to have us ignore the obvious and frequent inconsistencies that plagued his career, through his repeated indiscipline and use of drugs. So ultimately, while its easy to dismiss both Messi and Ronaldo to not being up to the standards of other futbolers like Pele and Maradona because of their inability to lead their respective teams to a World Cup, that shouldnโ€™t happen. Despite this little failure, they are still undeniably the greatest futbolers of all time, and should be treated as such.
