 dealt with racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, prejudice, and general

 at you get to choose to be kind, loyal, brave, and true. They taught us to be

 nder the pressures of this world and to hold fast to what we know to be
 right. These books taught me so much, they changed me as a person. So just
 ause they're set against a fantastical backdrop with young protagonists does
 not mean that their value is any less real

 First book Starts with the double murder of a pair of twenty-one year olds who
 e much missed and leaving their baby son a war orphan

In the late 19th century, an inexperienced doctor performed his first surgery n a room full of people. Feeling the pressure, he felt the need to perform the amputation in the quickest time possible, and ended up amputating his patient’s arm in the space of around 25 seconds. In the process of this, he accidentally amputated his assistant’s fingers too. Both patient and assistant died of sepsis, and a spectator died from shock, making it the only operation ever with a 300% mortality rate.

He was known as the ‘fastest knife on West End’ and could allegedly take a leg off in 2 ½ minutes. Some say he could amputate a limb in 30 seconds flat if he had to, he was exactly the man you wanted to call in case of emergency like this, because he could get you done and stitched nice and fast, before you bled out or died from shock.
On top of that, he was a theater surgeon, and I mean, he brought the THEATER to it. This man would scream for the students watching him to time him, and when he had to free his hands, shove his BLOODY FUCKING KNIFE between his teeth. Also, the 300% mortality rate wasn’t because he was inexperienced- it was because he was WAY TOO ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT CUTTING ARMS OFF, swinging his knife around for the effect. This was not the only time his enthusiasm got the better of him on the table, once, he amputated a man’s leg and accidentally took off his testicles in the same go.

 did i ever tell u guys that in fifth grade my class wrote a play bc we were
 studying ancient greece? it was called persephone and the (not so hot)
 heroes. i played demeter. basically, persephone got kidnapped by kronos
 and i strong armed hades into giving me 3 heroes from the underworld to
 get her back but they were actually temible and i forget how she was
 actually saved but bottom line is that you wish you were my fifth grade
 class
 this wasn't little either, we used the town hall and we wore togas and shit
 me as demeter
 some lines (this was a joint effort of a bunch of greek-savvy 10/11 year olds):
 athena: "im the goddess of wisdom but you don't notice me telling everyone. i'm
 too smart for that
 aphrodite: is zeus chasing some mortal woman again?
 athena: no this time he and hera have gone for marriage counselling
 athena: we can ask hades to let them out of the underworld to help
 aphrodite: he'll never agree, he's such a deadly bore (we made a fucking pun im
 so angry)
 demeter hades wont pick up he's too busy torturing the dead in tartarus
 hades i can't undo the laws of death just think of the paperwork
 aphrodite the humidity is messing up my hair. it's getting all frizzy
 athena: is that all you care about?
 aphrodite: no, it's also messing up my dress
 demeter it's so dark, and there aren't any trees or flowers
 hades what do we need trees for, everybody's dead
 paris: yeah, and i can shoot straight! isn't that right, achilles?

 odysseus: im wily odysseus

<p>This is true! The zoo where I volunteer (the illustrious Columbus Zoo &amp; Aquarium) was one of the pioneers of this program.</p>

Cheetahs have a terrible infant mortality rate and cubs are often rejected, so we get a lot of cubs to raise from all over the country (other zoos and sanctuaries, mostly).</p>
<p>The cubs are placed with a puppy friend when they are wee and small, so they grow up together like littermates. They play together, wrestle, and the dogs (yellow Labs) are so calm, friendly and well-socialized that the cheetahs take behavioral cues from them. When they meet new people, or go into new situations (which they often do, as ambassador animals for cheetah conservation), they check out if their dog friend is feeling chill - which he is - and then they know it’s okay for them to be chill, too.</p>
<p>Basically the dog is a service animal for them.</p>
<p>The cats need their dog friends less and less as they get older and more comfortable, but they still often hang out as grownups.</p>

The dogs…let’s just say they try their best.</p>

Cheetahs have a terrible infant mortality rate and cubs are often rejected, so we get a lot of cubs to raise from all over the country (other zoos and sanctuaries, mostly).</p>
<p>The cubs are placed with a puppy friend when they are wee and small, so they grow up together like littermates. They play together, wrestle, and the dogs (yellow Labs) are so calm, friendly and well-socialized that the cheetahs take behavioral cues from them. When they meet new people, or go into new situations (which they often do, as ambassador animals for cheetah conservation), they check out if their dog friend is feeling chill - which he is - and then they know it’s okay for them to be chill, too.</p>
<p>Basically the dog is a service animal for them.</p>
<p>The cats need their dog friends less and less as they get older and more comfortable, but they still often hang out as grownups.</p>

You've heard it all your life: Being humble, kind, and calm is the "right thing to do." But if that isn't enough to convince you, consider this: humility, kindness, and calmness can actually help you get ahead in life. Confidence is key to getting ahead in life. It helps you do better at work, in relationships, and in interviews. Overconfidence, however, can make you seem like a genuine jerk. We all know that one person that thinks they are the strongest, smartest, and just all around best at everything. Truthfully, we all dislike that person to some degree. So, while confidence is essential, it's important to stay humble as well (the two aren't as contradictory as you might think). Think about it before you start hatting on my post. Here are the benefits of being humble: ✔️Calms your soul. Humble people are better able to cope with anxiety about their mortality. Instead of erecting self-defenses against death, humble people tend to find it provides a useful perspective on life and how it should be lived. When it's not all about you, it makes death easier to contemplate. ✔️higher self-control. Having high self-control is one key to a successful life. Oddly, perhaps, studies have found that an obsession with the self can paradoxically lead to lower self-control. The humble, though, because they place less importance on the self, exhibit higher self-control in many situations. Perhaps this is partly due to the fact that humble people tend to know their limits. 🤔 ✔️More helpful. Humble people are, on average, more helpful than people who are conceited or egotistical. Unsurprisingly, humble people have also been found to be more generous. - What’s your opinion on being humble? I would like to know what you think!
