Eloquently said. I miss a POTUS like this 😢 (via /r/BlackPeopleTwitter): Barack Obama @BarackObama Michelle and I grieve with all the families in El Paso and Dayton who endured these latest mass shootings. Even if details are still emerging, there are a few things we already know to be true. First, no other nation on Earth comes close to experiencing the frequency of mass shootings that we see in the United States. No other developed nation tolerates the levels of gun violence that we do. Every time this happens, we're told that tougher gun laws won't stop all murders; that they won't stop every deranged individual from getting a weapon and shooting innocent people in public places. But the evidence shows that they can stop some killings. They can save some families from heartbreak. We are not helpless here. And until all of us stand up and insist on holding public officials accountable for changing our gun laws, these tragedies will keep happening Second, while the motivations behind these shootings may not yet be fully known, there are indications that the El Paso shooting follows a dangerous trend: troubled individuals who embrace racist ideologies and see themselves obligated to act violently to preserve white supremacy. Like the followers of ISIS and other foreign terrorist organizations, these individuals may act alone, but they've been radicalized by white nationalist websites that proliferate on the internet. That means that both law enforcement agencies and internet platforms need to come up with better strategies to reduce the influence of these hate groups. But just as important, all of us have to send a clarion call and behave with the values of tolerance and diversity that should be the hallmark of our democracy. We should soundly reject language coming out of the mouths of any of our leaders that feeds a climate of fear and hatred or normalizes racist sentiments; leaders who demonize those who don't look like us, or suggest that other people, including immigrants, threaten our way of life, or refer to other people as sub-human, or imply that America belongs to just one certain type of people. Such language isn't new it's been at the root of most human tragedy throughout history, here in America and around the world. It is at the root of slavery and Jim Crow, the Holocaust, the genocide in Rwanda and ethnic cleansing in the Balkans. It has no place in our politics and our public life. And it's time for the overwhelming majority of Americans of goodwill, of every race and faith and political party, to say as much clearly and unequivocally. 3:01 PM 8/5/19 Twitter for iPhone 5,046 Retweets 14.6K Likes Eloquently said. thecarefree: Austria-Hungary (also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austro-Hungarian monarchy or k.u.k. Monarchy), more formally known as the Kingdoms and Lands Represented in the Imperial Council and the Lands of the Holy Hungarian Crown of Saint Stephen, was a constitutional monarchic union between the crowns of the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary in Central Europe. The union was a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, under which the House of Habsburg agreed to share power with the separate Hungarian government, dividing the territory of the former Austrian Empire between them. The Austrian and the Hungarian lands became independent entities enjoying equal status. Austria-Hungary was a multinational realm and one of the world’s great powers at the time. The dual monarchy existed for 51 years until it dissolved on 31 October 1918 before a military defeat on the Italian front of the First World War. In the autumn of 1918, the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy collapsed. In the capital cities of Vienna and Budapest the leftist and liberal movements and politicians (the opposition parties) strengthened and supported the separatism of ethnic minorities. These leftist or left-liberal pro-Entente maverick parties opposed the monarchy as a form of government and considered themselves internationalist rather than patriotic. Eventually, the German defeat and the minor revolutions in Vienna and Budapest gave political power to the left/liberal political parties. As it became apparent that the Allied powers of the British Empire, France, Italy and the United States would win World War I, nationalist movements which had previously been calling for a greater degree of autonomy for various areas started pressing for full independence. : 201 TE thecarefree: Austria-Hungary (also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austro-Hungarian monarchy or k.u.k. This is such a good movement: I hadn't seen any English reports on this but its too good not to So right now there are pretty crazy right-wing nationalist sexists in Japan. They're dressing up in WWIl military outfits, they're standing outside of Korean schools (in Japan) shouting that Koreans should be killed, and just generally being horrible human beings. For reasons unknown, the Japanese police haven't done anything to stop them, and when people get physical with the right-wingers and a fight breaks out, it's not the right-wing people who get punished. Enter: the Yakuza Yakuza, for those who don't know, is the name for the world of Japanese gangs, commonly known for being covered in tattoos. A few retired yakuza members (most of whom are notoriously and vocally conservative) got tired of this extreme right wing BS. They believe that picking on people who are weaker than you, like the children at the Korean schools or refugees, is embarrassing, and not something to be proud of. They want these right wingers to man up (the group is almost entirely men) These old retired yakuzas start showing up at the right wing protests and intimidate the hell out of these guys. When they feel like it, they'll use physical force too. The police don't mess with the yakuza so these right wing protesters become human punching bags. All their talk of killing Koreans or their superiority to just about everyone flies out the window when these gangsters roll up. It started with only one or two yakuza who were bored and fed up, but more and more started to come. They started training in boxing and street fighting, and wouldn't you know it... the number of right wing protesters got less and less. Then, people of other walks of life joined in too. With the yakuza throwing the police off professors could join by writing about the issues profusely. Suddenly a ton of otakus joined too, using their art and community to protest. They'd show up in droves and stand behind the muscle (yakuza) and make a ton of noise. They literally staged an "otakus against racists" rally TAKU AGAINST Slowly, the protests have seen the right wing attendance drop more and more and I am living for these "manly men" being trashed by retired gangsters and fans of Love Live. In conclusion First, I'd like the extreme right wing to gtfo Second, l'd like a manga, then an anime, about these yakuza who befriended professors and otakus to fight neo-nazis. K? cool. 50,371 notes お兄ちゃん This is such a good movement

Actually, I am a highly intelligent individual who’s able to make well thought out decisions based on actual facts and not emotions. Because Trump wants to keep the USA 🇺🇸 Safe & secure from the corruption and crime of South America doesn’t make him a racist. You are right, I am not a Mexican, and neither are you. The real Mexicans aren’t fleeing Mexico, they are actually fighting for their country and protesting against the invaders just like the majority of Americans are. musingsdeme: So I’m a historian who works particularly on the relationship between trauma, national memory, and childhood.  The focus of my research is not the Holocaust, but it’s a subject upon which I’ve taught, mused, written, and examined.  A few years ago, I was a TA in a class on the Holocaust (cross listed in the History Department and the Department of Judaic Studies) at a US University (a pretty prestigious one). Most of the course focused on the realities of the Holocaust:  what happened?  how?  why? Now because of my areas of expertise/interest, I was invited to give a lecture to the entire class as opposed to teaching my particular subset of students each week.  The subject of the lecture?  The Holocaust in US education and children’s/YA literature.  The thing that I found most distressing about this lecture?  The fact that only about nine state in the US require that students learn about the Holocaust in classrooms.  Among those only a few require it as a part of history or social studies classes, the rest require it as part of language arts.  And, the way that students actually learn about this subject is determined at the discretion of the school district, which means that, as long as students meet the general requirements of standardized tests, they don’t have to learn particular details.  So, let that sink in.  Even more distressing?  The states that “require” students to learn about the Holocaust, have only done so since (at the earliest) the 1980s, and far more likely the 1990s and 2000s.  This means that there is an entire generation whose knowledge of the Holocaust comes from popular media and triumphant narratives about US involvement in WWII:  these narratives are hugely false, and what I call the “Punching Hitler” story after the iconic image of Captain America socking Hitler in the jaw.  In the US the general shared narrative about WWII is that the US went over the Europe, lost a lot of boys, but killed Hitler, won the war, and saved the Jews.  o__O  That’s…not what happened.   In a class of 200 students, only about 10 percent knew anything about how the Holocaust happened.  They didn’t know about the groups that were targeted, the way that anti-semitism and opportunistic nationalist politics helped make it happen, they didn’t know about complicity or bystandardism.  They knew nothing.  They didn’t know that US officials were aware of what was happening and refused to get involved in the war.  They didn’t understand that there was concurrent anti-semitism and racism in the US.  They were taught none of these things.  And that is actually terrifying, not only because it means that these kids have no idea about the past, but because they can’t see the giant flashing warning signs in our current socio-political world.   : ElleGato @ellle_enm The Holocaust is not "fading from memory" The United States is unwilling to teach history responsibly. odinsblog: Dayanna Volitich, a 25-year-old social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School in Florida, has been secretly hosting the white nationalist podcast “Unapologetic” under the pseudonym “Tiana Dalichov” and bragging about teaching her views in a public school, HuffPost has discovered. In her most recent podcast on Feb. 26, a guest railed against diversity in schools, dismissing the idea that “a kid from Nigeria and a kid who came from Sweden are supposed to learn exactly the same” and have the “same IQ.” Volitich enthusiastically agreed with the guest, and went on to argue that “science” has proven that certain races are smarter than others. In the same episode, Volitich boasted about bringing her white nationalist beliefs into the classroom and hiding her ideology from administrators. She said that when parents complained to the school’s principal about how she is injecting political bias into the classroom, Volitich lied to the principal and said it was not true. “She believed me and backed off,” she said. Volitich also agreed with her guest’s assertion that more white supremacists need to infiltrate public schools and become teachers. “They don’t have to be vocal about their views, but get in there!” her guest said. “Be more covert and just start taking over those places.” “Right,” Volitich said. “I’m absolutely one of them.” (continue reading) : TWITTER/CRYSTAL RIVER MIDDLE SCHOOL Exclusive: Florida Public School Teacher Has A White Nationalist Podcast Dayanna Volitich suggests Muslims be eradicated from the earth, believes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and teaches middle school social studies. masked-up: yellow-anonymous: masked-up: masked-up: Quick how-to A lot of comments criticising this post have popped up, I realized the problem and I’ve fixed it. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Assault is still a crime. It doesn’t matter if the person being punched is a “”“Nazi”””. What are you talking about???Lets say I can punch one of two people. My first option is this innocent old lady. My second option is this man wearing a flag, a face mask and making a specific gesture with this hand. Can you tell me the big difference between these two people? One of them is innocent and has never harmed anyone, the other is a fascist who supports either mass deporting all Muslims and non-whites, or flat out killing them. One makes cookies and one makes Nazi salutes, one goes to bingo and one went to prison for getting in a street battle in Dover. So it does matter if the person I punch is a Nazi, yes its still assault but its the Why he got punched that makes the difference. I’d never punch an old lady, but I’d very happily deck a fascist or Nazi, because they’re racist they’re nationalist they’re dangerous. It matters a great deal who is punched, and why. Of course if you’re completely against all political violence you’ll never see any punches thrown as good ones, you’ll never see it as a right only a wrong. Despite the consistent examples of violence or the threat of violence working to get rid of fascists and Nazis, because your morals will never allow it. : How TO TALK TO NAZIS masked-up: yellow-anonymous: masked-up: masked-up: Quick how-to A lot of comments criticising this post have popped up, I realized the problem and I’ve fixed it.
