Apparently, Church, and Fail: captainlovelxce hey have i ever told y all about my cursed apartment building cursed how, you say???? well, here's the thing: no-one can fuckin see it. let me explain further .i live in a tiny flat in a big red brick building with huge windows. it has a driveway with two columns on either side not a thing you usually see in this area. it is opposite a bus stop and several corner shops. it is on a main, busy road. most significantly, it is attached to a church. a well- known church with a big pink sign on the front. all things that would make it easy to spot, right???? like if i gave that list of distinguishing features to someone along with my address then they'd be able to find my filat easily, right??? well APPARENTLY NOT we have never once had a delivery to our flat (outside of the usual postal service) where we haven't been called by a lost courier usually, they are about thirty seconds away. "i'm by the church and i don't know where to go from here," they say. so we tell them, "it's the building right next to the church!! the one you're outside. that church. it's the next building along. it's opposite a bus stop and it has a driveway with two big columns." without fail, they call back 5-10 minutes later, still lost. i have answered calls from both lost delivery people and friends where i've been able to see them standing in front of the driveway, from my window a friend of mine once drove past my building three times, while on the phone to me, getting increasingly panicked that she couldn't figure out where she was going. she parked in a nearby road and i had to walk to her car and guide her to the driveway however, my flatmate and i found this place when we were flat-hunting first time, no trouble, and we don't know what that means other than i guess this place chose us and the rent is so cheap because the estate agents were so relieved to find the first people in a thousand years who could actually see this fuckin building . today a food delivery person called me to say he was outside the church was told to go to the next building along, (a 20 second journey on foot) and arrived at my door 20 minutes later, saying, "sorry, i went to the back of this building by mistake. weird right???" this building doesn't have a back it backs onto the rest of the church it doesn't have a back where did he go . . toastynoneofyourbusiness There's probably a wizard's pub somewhere around there and the spell keeps overlapping with the nearby buildings captainlovelxce i haven't really been interacting with the notes on this post bc it blew up unexpectedly and ive been rly busy, but reblogging again to say - holy fuck, there is actually a pub just down the road that's all boarded up and derelict but i HAVE seen people go in and out of it and sometimes you can see a light on in the upstairs window Source:motherfortuna #bahahahahah #sacred space #fairy circle 92,553 notes TFW you live in a liminal space

Being Alone, Cars, and Disney: Michael Sainato @msainat1 Likely the biggest union battle in the country right now, 41,000 union members fighting Disney's poverty wages as Disney withholds their bonuses and its barely getting covered in the media STOP WAR IE WORKERS NEED UNIT HERE MA6IC 3/29/18, 10:03 PM 6,035 Retweets 8,716 Likes ndelphinus: fckyeahitslauren: jumpingjacktrash: srsishere: wabefuhon: srsishere: Just a little taste of what’s going on at my workplace right now. We have been fighting for a raise because a lot of people who work at Disney have to work 60+ hours a week just to get by. What was their response? “Ok, everyone gets a bonus. $1000. But not all at once. $500 now and $500 at the end of the year.” (in case some people get fired or quit, so they don’t have to pay the full amount to those people). Of course, we were like “No, that’s not what we said we wanted. We want a PERMANENT RAISE.” So Disney was like OK, fine, whoever is NOT part of the union fighting for a raise gets the $1000 bonus :) Meanwhile, we are still fighting for a raise… The company I work for sells aluminum and aluminum mixed metals. I want everyone to understand that running a business is expensive and the reason why raises don’t happen is because management holds onto money to keep the business running. Equipment repair is expensive because parts have to be made. If you’re needing to work over 60 hrs to make ends meet, you need to move where it’s cheaper to live or get a job where it’s cheaper to live.Stop thinking that there’s all this money pouring in that the CEO and leading personnel are hoarding and paying the minimum to it’s employees. If you think I’m wrong, do some digging and pry about company expenses and the revenue from parks. Ok, but here’s the thing: Disney keep raising it’s prices. On literally everything. Park tickets, resort stays, merchandise, parking, meal plans, and they are even going to start charging for people to have their cars parked at the resorts. Not to mention, they obviously have money to throw around with all these expansions going on. They keep remodeling and renewing things that were fine before. This costs millions and millions of dollars. If every Cast Member at Walt Disney World received a raise, it would still only be a fraction of the price that Disney is dishing out on all these renovations and expansions. No cast member should be forced to work 60+ hours a week just to survive when they work for one of the wealthiest corporations in the world. if you can’t afford to pay your workers a living wage, you can’t afford to run a business. you don’t have a right to be a boss. that is not a thing you are entitled to. if you fail, you fail. get over it. IT’S DISNEY. Holy crap, is this a joke? Am I in the Twilight Zone? Did I seriously have to read with my own two eyes someone comparing running a small business to DISNEY? Right? We’re not talking even an indie film studio here (which, for the record, are mostly subsidiaries of major film studios), it’s fucking Disney. They own half the damned world. Their net income last year was over 14 billion dollars. Bob Iger (CEO of The Walt Disney Company) alone makes over $2 million a year, not including bonuses, stock options, and benefits. His 2017 take home pay was $36.3 million.Disney can fucking afford to pay their employees a living wage. They just don’t want to.Also, fuck you and your “move to a cheaper area” bullshit. No one should have to commute two hours each way to get to work. If you can’t pay your employees enough to get by within a reasonable distance of where you’re located you have failed to meet one of your most basic operating costs.

To which I say, NO THAT'S NOT A THING, learn some basic Gender Studies 101, and understand the systemic power imbalances inherent in the patriarchy that render men as subjects even when viewed through the female gaze, therefore making it literally impossible for them to be objectified, i.e. reduced to nothing more than sexual objects. 9/11, Africa, and Being Alone: now you kno! In 2002, Kenyan Masai tribespeople donated 14 cows to to the U.S to help with the aftermath of 9/11. nowyoukno.com thestoicgod: hutchj: thestoicgod: velocicrafter: markingatlightspeed: cyanwrites: iammyfather: evilelitest2: petitepenquin: mehofkirkwall: disputedthreshermaw: natrsrants: deadcatwithaflamethrower: jadedhavok: randomthingsthatilike123: gweatherwax: awesomonster: obese-starving-artist: the-treble: nowyoukno: Source for more facts on your dash follow NowYouKno That was super nice of them. And now I’m mad that nobody told us we were given cows. Cause that’s really f*cking nice and nobody mentioned it at all. American media tends to disregard that anyone donates to the US. And then Amurricans complain about money going abroad because “nobody helped the US in our disasters.” . Also, do you know how much a cow costs? O.O It isn’t just a matter of how much a cow costs, its a matter of considering that Masai life is based around their cattle. Its their wealth, their food, and a significant part of their religion. Here’s a quote from Wikipedia: “Traditional Maasai lifestyle centres around their cattle which constitute their primary source of food. The measure of a man’s wealth is in terms of cattle and children. A herd of 50 cattle is respectable, and the more children the better. A man who has plenty of one but not the other is considered to be poor.[37] A Maasai religious belief relates that God gave them all the cattle on earth, leading to the belief that rustling cattle from other tribes is a matter of taking back what is rightfully theirs, a practice that has become much less common.[38]” So its not just “they gave us 14 cows”, its that they gave us something that is very important and significant to them, it is more than just a kind gesture that definitely deserves to be known and its a genuine shame that more people don’t know about it. Wait, you guys DON’T KNOW that we offer help to the US when you have disasters??????? Shit, down here in Brazil we not only offered to send tracking units and doctors to help in 9/11 but we wanted to send a whole lot of donations to help with Katrina (we have experience with floods down here so we knew what kind of medicine to send to prevent outbreaks). We alone had like 2 army airplanes full of medicine and non-perishables like baby formula, diapers, bottled water, mosquito nets and other stuff that’s needed to fight opportunistic diseases that hit flooded areas, enough to assist a good few thousand people at least, ready to go the day after it hit, but your government refused the donations. The same thing happened to the Canadians and Europeans who offered help, the US embassies around the world told us all to give money to Red Cross. And so we did, we all gave hundreds of millions of dollars to them, and then this happened: Red Cross scandals tarnish relief efforts ‘Breathtaking’ Waste and Fraud in Hurricane Aid So please, don’t you go spreading misinformation and prejudice against the rest of the world, WE DID OFFER HELP AND ORGANIZED IT EVEN FASTER THAN BUSH DID, BUT Y’ALL REFUSED IT. Oh wow I had no idea this happened it’s really not talked about in media at all wow this is something good to know about wow I’m so angry. I didn’t know that other countries tried to help after 9/11 or Katrina. Like, that’s something we, the people, should hear about and we don’t. Please don’t blame us for the shitty decisions our government makes. We don’t have as much control over our government as we would like to think and they keep a lot from us. Spread this shit. After Katrina, Cuba donated several hundred blankets. Think about that. A country that is suffering economically due directly to the US embargo offered to help us when we needed it by sending what they could. And once again, it was refused. We have a government that is so self-righteous that we refuse to accept disaster aid in order to maintain this facade that we are the most generous nation on earth. Okay, Katrina thing.Only Texans really knows this? and even then it’s not wide spread.Mexico sent their army. They sent their army for relief efforts. Didn’t call ahead, they drove all the way to San Antonio with doctors and food and all sorts of supplies. When people actually got a call from them saying “Hey, we’re sending people up.”The people who answered said “What? We can’t…”“Too late, already there.”This was while the government was turning down help.So yeah, other countries send relief.Forest fires up in Washington last year? Firefighters from Australia came up to assist.Like… we don’t hear about this shit. At all. I can second the above with the fires. Most the time, when people say “oh FEMA or something sent people right?” re: fires, its actually people from other countries showing up and kinda ignoring the government telling them to fuck off and staying on behalf of local departments because we REALLY need them. If there’s a huge ass disaster, and the government is sitting there with a thumb up it’s ass, help is offered and most the time– shit, it gets there! But then the feds do something really fucking dirty. They insist they were the help, if it’s talked about at all. They insist those people putting out fires were federal people, because to most people a fireman’s a fireman. The people handing out water and food, a relief worker is a relief worker. So on and so forth. We had people come up when the fires were so bad a while ago– not the Australians, but i think there was like a German group of like 3 guys that flew themselves over? They came out of sheer “this is horrible and we’re helping” and my dad [local fire chief] had them working with our guys and the feds lost no time telling every news outlet that it was THEIR people doing all the fire knockdowns and structure work when these guys were running into buildings and grabbing people, pets, and people’s important documents because they knew papers were a pain in the ass to replace. What you gotta understand is that our government is very intent on selling us and the rest of the world [as much as possible] the idea of a powerful and self reliant country. All our reporting on disasters, starts with the scaremongering and then moves to “but our people can handle it because we’re the best at handling things” and then they move on before the idea it’s out of control comes to mind. The average person outside of the disaster has no idea, if they have never been around such an event or met someone who regularly deals with these things, they will kinda probably nod along with that. Because we have no real scope on the scale and impact– by design. Our media intake is very controlled to slant everything to the “eh, we can handle it and everyone else out there– they need our help because they’re not so good at handling disasters like we are.”People who know better, reading international news, interacting with international social groups, looking outside their sphere of community– we know better but that kinda slant is really hard to break from because of that grip American media has on information. So, taking that knowledge, we further have restricted reporting on certain disasters because they’re considered unimportant. Hurricanes are considered important, earthquakes are only considered important if it wrecks something the government cares about or somewhere a couple million people live that they’ll upset the national money flow/they can throw money at someone to make the news care, floods are only important if it’s in a similar manner to earthquakes but since they occur annually they’re rarely reported on nationally, mudslides that kill people or leave hundreds homeless aren’t important to the government even through they happen constantly, wildfires that consume most of the nation/continent each year generally are unimportant until they consume a town or threaten a government interest/money flow location. Terrorist attacks are always important because people will talk about them. So, when we do get help for any of the above, it’s possible that most people may have no idea about what’s happened, let alone that help’s been sent. Or if people know something happened, the details are vague– the news don’t care to give the nitty gritty. You’ll know something happened and people are suffering and “gee, isn’t it good you’re not them” and then now the weather. So, yeah, basically no one really knows we get help. International response to Hurricane Katrina: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina We got HELLA help, but nobody really talks about it American Media really fails regularly Hurricane Sandy, Quebec sends power line crews down to assist in restoring power. California gets rid of water bombers due to budget cuts, Canada sends theirs down to help fight wild fires. Amazing what living on the border and having outside TV News does to your information flow. After Katrina, Denmark offered to donate water purification units so people wouldn’t get sick from drinking contaminated water, but the offer was declined. A private Danish company built a mobile satellite phone booth and drove it around the poor neighbourhoods in Mississippi and Louisiana so people could call their families and insurance companies for free (apparently there was a deadline for reporting damages but people couldn’t call in because their mobile phones were dead and landlines were down). American propaganda is not a thing of the past, nor is it a new thing. It has been around forever, telling stories of exceptionalism and self-reliance while our government tries its hardest to refuse the help of others and offer its own to them, to try and force other nations onto their back foot and remain aggressively benevolent in international matters, so that it can lord that shit over them in negotiations and the media in general.I guarantee you America would have a less jingoistic, less xenophobic populace overall if this sort of information were actually reported to us. If we weren’t always fed the lie of helping the world without any gratitude or help in return. If the media didn’t present us as world police and instead as a part of the community, as other countries try hard to include us as, then maybe Americans would actually act like they’re part of a fucking community. But global citizens are hard to monger fear and distrust and xenophobia and nationalism with. They’re hard to control with propaganda and hate. They’re hard to keep ignorant and docile and saying “this is fine” while the empire burns.A lot of Americans wonder why our country is seen as a worldwide bully. Shit like that, my friends. Shit like that. Its hubris is seemingly limitless. C O M M E N T A R Y FYI: They left out the part where America’s rudeness kicked in and turned down the offer of the cows. The US government is really tryna kill its people. Someone offered water purification units and they were like “nah,” let those tricks get sick. @hutchj how about the U.S. passed a law recently making CBD, the non-psychoactive derivative of cannabis, illegal as a Schedule A drug, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO REDUCE EPILEPTIC SEIZURES IN CHILDREN TO ZERO among a dozen other ailments having been reduced to nominal levels allowing ppl to function normally (ADHD, chronic pain, IBS, menstrual cramps, Alzheimer’s, etc). Alive, Children, and Comfortable: Columbine survivor, now a lawmaker, pushes to legalize guns in schools More of my friends would still be alive today" if Columbine teachers had guns, he said
dawniedon:

trashcanbees:

hanisu93:

Wait

W A I T

What he means is that teachers who are personally licensed to carry concealed weapons should be allowed to do so on school grounds. There would be no push to give guns to teachers who were not comfortable with them or to keep guns in schools or anything like that.

The main way this is helpful is taking schools off the list of targets where you can go in completely unopposed because you don’t know for sure that there’s no one to stop you. You can’t just assume someone isn’t carrying even though you know not everyone is.

As for the stress thing, just really think about that for a second. People don’t suddenly become more volatile when in possession of a gun, I would know I (and everyone in my family) own one, how often do you think teachers genuinely attempt to kill children? You shouldn’t be leaving your children in the care of someone you think would murder them if given the chance, that’s just not a thing. If there’s a teacher who is unstable like that the odds that that teacher can pass the background check to be allowed to own or carry guns at all is highly unlikely.

That’s just not a realistic concern at all. You don’t wanna leave one gun per classroom or anything like that though because that makes it far more likely that a gun is in the hands of someone unqualified to use it than if a teacher can bring his personal handgun, hidden on his body where no one knows, or is allowed to know, that he has it. You would not know which teachers had guns unless there came a time for them to have to use it.

What the shit! Maybe ban the possession of guns altogether!

That way teachers will not need to bring in any guns at all. And still not leave any one unopposed. Bad, Birthday, and Clothes: Jordan Gleason April 1 at 9:06pm This is a longer post, so bear with me... Today I had to explain to a 60 year old man why he was banned from the pub In January he made several sexist remarks about the female staff that were working. He told them to their faces that that he liked looking at their tits while they washed dishes, and their asses while they were pouring drinks. He was told to leave and not come back. He came back last month, and was told we wouldn't serve him. He came back yet again today, and when told he wouldn't be served demanded to talk to a manger l sat with him for a few minutes as he explained that what he said would have been okay 20 years ago, and that it was just some off colour remarks. He told me he had apologized, and that he guessed my servers were too sensitive. He then told me that if what he said was a problem then I should tell them not to wear low cut shirts, and that I should face the dish washing sink away from customers. But since he apologized, he should be allowed to drink in my establishment because he lives in the neighborhood and will bring in business l told him flatly that wasn't happening, and that what he said to those ladies was incredibly offensive. The simple fact that he couldn't understand that just because they were were working didn't mean they deserve his disrespectful language. That these ladies were part of my family, and were human beings that deserved respect. They aren't objects, and they certainly shouldn't have to wear different clothes because he can't be bothered with showing them any decency or respect. "But we're men and they're females. Is cleavage just not a thing anymore?" I told him yeah buddy, it's not, and I won't be changing my mind about having him served. He threatened bad publicity, I told him I didn't care and he left. I work in the service industry, and we get the sheer joy and pleasure of meeting and talking to so many great people in our city. I've met some of my best friends here behind the bar. I live for it man. Connecting people who haven't met, making sure people can relax from a shitty day, or celebrate a great one, or just to simply enjoy a few beers with friends. I've seen wedding proposals, birthday parties, political discussions, deep philosophical debates, neighborhood organization, the absolute works The best of humanity coming together and bonding. That's my JAM. It's one of the biggest reasons l get out of bed in the morning to come in to work day after day As absolutely insanely fun as that is, the dark side of this business is we run into some pretty horrible goblin people. Folks who think that just because we're serving, we don't deserve any basic decency or respect. I've been snapped at, mocked, threatened, and insulted about not having a real job. Anybody in this line of work gets used to a degree of it and develops a thicker skin. Here's the thing though, women in this field get infinitely more disgustingly treated. The sheer number of times they get groped, or harassed, or treated like objects would blow your mind. The worst of it is how normal their harassers think their behavior is. Every single lady in here handles it with grace and aplomb, andI applaud them for it. I've had their backs as we've bounced people out for that trash, but countless times they just deal with it before it even gets to me Sometimes the dudes get so worked up that they demand to see a manager, and I get called in to speak with them. Every single fucking time they attempt to appeal to me solely because I'm a man. They try to weasel in with me about how the women are asking for it. That women shouldn't dress that way if they don't want to be stared at. They attempt to explain it away as just "dudes being dudes." It's expected for men to stare at women's breasts and make jokes about how much they want to fuck them. Wink Wink. Of course you'll understand they think, because you also have a dick. What terrifies and enrages me is how every one of them thinks that this is normal behavior, but also that other men will agree with them Men, we often don't see the level of filth that our friends, sisters, and mothers go through every day. We hope to surround ourselves with people who would never treat a woman like that. We live in a safe little bubble. But the reality of this thing? It's an insidious disease that's happening every single day, several times a day and it turns my fucking stomach So why am I writing this? I want to acknowledge the struggle of every single woman who will read this. You deserve our respect and to be treated with decency I want to stand up and say, I'm fucking sick of this To every dude out there, we need to fucking combat this disease like its the god damned plague that it is. If one of your friends says something shitty about a woman, tell him to shut his fucking mouth. Don't just laugh it off or ignore it. We need to listen when our sisters talk about this, and not just blame it on some bad apples. Not just say "not all dudes do that" or "well no one I know would ever do that." Nah man. This is an endemic cultural problem. If we want to start taking our status as gentlemen seriously we need to do more than just avoiding being a sexist prick ourselves. We need to open our eyes and fight it everywhere we see it, because the only way this thing gets better is to start calling it out for what it is Edit: Sorry for so many edits. I keep finding typos. Writing in anger isn't so conducive to well typed responses rcmclachlan: This is what a male feminist looks like.

Anaconda, Belgium, and Lol: 'All further migration from mainly Muslim countries should be stopped Source: Chatham House, https://www.chathamhouse.org/expert/comment/what-do-europeans-think-about-muslim-immigration 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 Total Belgium Germany GreeceSpin FranceayraUK ungary Poland AgreeNeither agree nor disagree Disagree aribelli: c-bassmeow: aribelli: c-bassmeow: Most Europeans agree with a Muslim ban with Spain and the U.K. being the most tolerant. https://www.chathamhouse.org/expert/comment/what-do-europeans-think-about-muslim-immigration The rise of right wing nationalism is not just an isolated US phenomenon. Not only it isn’t just the US, but Europe started much earlier. Italy in particular never got around dealing with fascists (even monuments to the regime are still up), the Italian right is notoriously and literally still fascist (there is even a party called Movimento Fascismo e Libertà - Fascism and Freedom Movement) with parties like CasaPound Italia and Forza Nuova still active, with the center-right being not far off but mostly keeping a public face of only “conservatives”. Mussolini’s granddaughter Alessandra Mussolini is still active in politics and a member of the senate and of the European Parliament for Central Italy. This is 100% true, Europe has a long history with both far left and far right politics, but the far right was still for the most part not that popular except in isolated incidents like in Ukraine or Golden Dawn in Greece, but I make the claim that the far right is making a pretty effective and large comeback because neoliberal austerity measures and other economic factors have hurt many European countries. Since the left in these countries has been ineffective in addressing the grievances of the people or flat out infiltrated or thwarted by the state. The populist right was emotionally appealing in a time of economic need (much like the Nazis were in Germany who scapegoated Jewish people) and has thus surged by blaming refugees, immigration, etc. The left would have been able to counter the right in many of these countries without using economic scapegoating but as I said many were prevented or attacked. So although the presence of the far right has never left Europe I do think there are reasons to believe it’s on the rise just like in the United States. In Austria the Greens BARELY beat the far right wing party and Poland is a good example of the far right taking over as well. Oh yes, absolutely. The combined economic crisis of early 2000’s and the current immigration/refugee situation created the perfect panoramic for fear mongering and scapegoating tactics that the extreme right is so adept at using. They’ve been gaining ground for quite some time now. The ineptitude and infighting common in the European left also meant they were unable to create a coherent narrative and opposition (and don’t get me started on the racism is not a thing here” moderates).I wrote only about Italy because that’s what I have personal and deeper experience with, and to remember/tell people that fascism never really went away. (I still want to go back there and deface that horrid obelisk to Mussolini in front of the Foro Italico…) Well thank you so much, because I learned something today. Had no idea musollinis granddaughter was still active omg thats so scary lol and yeah Europe is not a post-racial utopia and that includes Scandinavia which some liberals claim is the zenith of all morality lol
