I’m not one who believes just being in prison means you forfeit all human rights, especially when you’re imprisoned for non-violent crimes. But yeah some sources on this would be nice. It would also be nice if these “facts” weren’t overplayed on OITNB characters, instantly making it more difficult to take them seriously. And it would be even nicer if feminists would stop co-opting issues like prison reform and labeling them as “feminist issues” when nearly all men’s prisons have the same and sometimes greater problems. Also somehow rape in men’s prisons is caused by men and yet women being raped in prison still doesn’t have anything to do with women. While i definitely agree our prison systems need SERIOUS reform, “abolishing” prison is absolutely out of the question.[Not to mention, women get more lenient sentances for the exact same crime. Stop acting like women get the short end of the stick in the legal system. They don’t.] Yeah that’s an excellent point. Also it looks like Tumblr May have nuked half my response again

I’ve had people look me straight in the eyes while they knock over a perfectly folded stack of shirts off a table so they could put down their Starbucks cup. People leave food, drinks, diapers, used pads and bandages, even one time an actual syringe on tables. I’ve had people destroy entire displays and complain about how dirty and “why don’t employees respect their own store” while I was directly next to them frantically trying to fix what they, themselves, just messed up. This shit is so ingrained in me now that I fixed displays while on vacation in Disney World for a full half hour. And before anyone says anything, no, actually picking up after grown adults that should know better, it actually isn’t my job to clean up after you all day. We have customer service, check for product, work the registers, keep the bathrooms clean, deal with angry customers, try to prevent shop lifting, and keep the store running. Recovery (fixing displays) is supposed to be low on our list because people aren’t supposed to be selfish shitheads. If you wouldn’t destroy your friend’s house, don’t destroy retail shops. I’ve literally had people ask me if I work at several stores before because I’m cleaning up after myself??? like they are asking me for help and I’m like “idk I don’t work here” then they are like “then why are you cleaning?” It’s,,, basic manners,,, to clean after yourself,,, what is wrong with people,,,

Facebook, Friday, and New York: FRIDAY, AUG 31, 2018, 6:00 PM In a Historic Move, Los Angeles Educators Vote To Strike BY JANE MCALEVEY R Share | y Tweet Reddit Ju StumbleUpon @ Email Print Thousands came to the #Allin4Respect rally in downtown Los Angeles in May, part of the lead-up to the strike. (Photo from UTLA Facebook) berniesrevolution: IN THESE TIMES Today teachers and education workers in Los Angeles, the second largest school district in the country (after New York), voted 98 percent to 2 percent to authorize their first strike in nearly 30 years. Last spring’s strikes and school walkouts by educators from West Virginia to Oklahoma, Arizona and more, took place in so-called red states. This school year, the strikes have moved to blue states, with teachers in Washington state school districts already on strike and Seattle teachers approving a strike vote earlier this week. The LA educators will likely go on strike, if they can’t negotiate a settlement through mediation, in mid-to-late October. They have been working under an expired contract for over a year, since June 30, 2017. At the top of the educators’ list of demands are reducing class size; less testing and more teaching time; basics such as new textbooks, and restoring essential support structures that students need, including school nurses and guidance counselors. California, despite being one of the wealthiest states in the nation, ranks 43 out of 50 in funding per pupil, according to the union. Julia Lathin, an art history teacher at Hamilton High, says, “Our school has over 2,000 students and one nurse, but she was only hired to be here part time. Because of this, I let my students know that I have a cabinet in my classroom that’s always stocked with pads and tampons. I need these kids focused on their education and not worrying about if they’re going to bleed through their pants at school because there isn’t always a nurse on campus.” Out of dozens of teachers interviewed for this article, not one placed wages at the top of their priorities list. When asked, “If management offered to meet your salary demands and nothing else, would you still plan to strike?”, all said yes. Among the top concern voiced by teachers is the need to eliminate Section 1.5 of their contract, which allows teacher-to-student ratios of 1 teacher—alone in their class without assistance—to up to 46 students. That’s right: one teacher responsible for up to 46 students. Brandon Abraham, an English teacher with 18 years of teaching experience, says, “When I started teaching in 1999, the teacher to student ratio was 1:20. I had twenty students in my class. These days, because of all the cuts, we don’t even have school librarians anymore, we are teaching basic literacy. They keep cutting and cutting and cutting essential services that students need to learn. To do a good job—which we do—is hard enough when conditions are perfect, but when the conditions get this challenging, it’s hard to motivate and inspire students. The problem is, really good teachers are leaving the profession because the conditions have become so difficult.” (Continue Reading)

Af, Dude, and Friends: Chan ce Ward on Tuesday So I'm in the gym today (getting my life to Truffle Butter on this elliptical ofc) when the girl next to me asks her friend if she has an extra tampon. Realizing that I overheard, she looked up and literally apologized to me, clearly embarrassed af Me being me, I hit ha with the "girl, u gucci" before reaching down into my fanny pack and giving her one of the tampons I keep in there. By the look on her face you would have thought I did a magic trick and pulled 36 titty-tasseled bunny rabbits out that damn bag This is so sad. Why don't y'all love y'all friends that menstruate? Like men will make whole guest rooms in their house just in case someone needs to stay. But god forbid that person menstruate because I bet you won't be no extra pads or tampons under that guest bathroom sink. Like why? Y'all know literally like half this world goes through this? Ugh anyway to all my menstruating friends, if y'all need it, know I got it. I keep some in my fanny pack when I go to the gym, and some in my backpack all the time. Never feel embarrassed for asking for one. Never feel embarrassed for being human @everyone who doesn't menstruate: keep your menstruating friends in mind and stop being so shitty 9,06948 2,480 twentyonelizards: lostwednesdays: Guys who think periods are nbd are my favorite guys. Clothes, Fucking, and Homeless: Don't forget Clothes Laptop Keys Toothbrush Wallet or purse Check the safe Passport Check the bedside table Mobile phone Kids Steal the toiletries Chargers alexanderreid: jumpingjacktrash: commie-ringo: lazulisong: constablewrites: scifinut: youbestnotmiss: youcantseebutimmakingaface: trilliath: halduron-brightwang: slightlynaive: diary-of-a-chinese-kid: This hotel reminds you to steal the toiletries! I work in hotels/resorts, and honestly, take the little shampoos and soaps! We throw them away when you leave (we don’t know if you’ve opened them and messed with them or whatever, so for health and safety it all goes in the trash)If you stay at the fancier places or chains, they’ve actually done some bit of thought into the scents for the toiletries, in that if you use them while at home you’ll remember the time you stayed at the hotel and be more likely to return.Just don’t take the towels or the robes or any of that shit, it’s expensive. This is true, all soaps, shampoos, and the like are tossed after a guest checks out of the hotel even if it’s clearly unopened because it is considered a health hazard violation in most places if they’re left there. If someone were to somehow get sick from it, a hotel can be shut down. Just take the toiletries, they’re ordered in bulk as is and only cost the hotel a few dollars to order them by the hundreds And even if you don’t use them, you can donate them to your local homeless shelter or other similar charity and give someone something they could use that would otherwise go to waste. PLEASE TAKE THE SOAPS. PLEASE DONATE THE SOAPS. It’s one of the biggest requests shelters/supply banks get. You want to make their fucking day? Show up with socks, undies, diapers, and toiletries. And here I am not taking them to avoid being wasteful. And here I was not wanting to steal things from the hotels. The more you know. Reblogging again because I didn’t even think about donating them to charity. I figured they were too small to be useful, but they would be perfect for shelters and the like. while we’re on the subject! if u are donating things to a shelter that supports women, especially trans women, please also consider going to the dollar store and buying a couple packs of razors! For trans women who are unable to get HRT, being able to shave helps a lot. Also if u can afford it, get a couple packs of the fancy tampons and pads!!!! What about the packets of coffee and hot chocolate that some hotels have in the rooms? Are those to take or do we leave them? i’ve known this for decades, since i did something odd back in the 90′s: i asked. so when i stay in hotels i take any still-full toiletries from my room with me, because they’re very handy for road trips and camping. you can’t take a full size bottle of shampoo camping, after all, that’s ridiculous. mostly you can just rinse the sweat off in the campsite shower and not worry about being a little funky – hell, i used to not even bother cuz i hated the slimy concrete floors and i’d just swim in the lake or whatever – but when you get weird sap in your eyebrow or congealed bacon grease in your leg hair holy crap do you appreciate those tiny soaps and shampoo bottles. As a Front Desk Rep.- Yes! Take the coffee. Same deal. We don’t know if you’ve messed with them and they get thrown out too. Also, they’re there for you??? Like. It’s not theft. Have it.
