Experts say you have about 15 min. to take cover after a launch cnn.it/2upXdZ9 biggest-goldiest-spoon: zoanzon: missmwynter: madlyinlov3onda: oakenroots: oakenroots: quietrain: shesheistyy: tripprophet: weavemama: ladies and gentlemen we have officially reached the “in case a nuclear attack happens” phase……. [x] This shit is wild. Wtf a table finna do for anybody?? There’s basically nothing you can do but die they’re doing this to give people a sense of safety , even though we full well know this won’t work at all. ALRIGHT KIDDOS LISTEN UP! I did emergency management for the air force which involves this fun thing called Plume Modelling (aka chart the path of death for a given bomb based on its payload, distance, type of detonation, etc) and let me tell you some actual LEGIT™ methods of minimizing damage to your life. Unless you are within the vaporization zone (where you turn into a fucking shadow because of your proximity to the blast) there is a specific order of events nuke blasts cause and there are ways to protect against these things. 1. There is this thing called a flash to bang ratio. It is really freaking important. The first wave from a nuke is a blinding flash of light that can literally FRY YOUR RETINAS. If you believe that a nuke has just dropped on your city, HIDE AND DONT LOOK AT IT. @shesheistyy a good solid table is good for this but you’re way less likely to go blind if you get to an internal room with no windows, especially one below ground. 2. After the flash there will be the bang. If the time between the flash and the bang, counted in Mississippi seconds, is more than 10 seconds you MIGHT survive and just die of cancer later. If it’s between five and 10 buckle up kiddos because the worst is yet to come. And well if it’s less than 3 you won’t live long enough to remember this. These are loose estimates only. 3. The “bang” usually announces the arrival of the fire ball. Yes. A massive heat shock will erupt from the core of the bomb and light pretty much every thing it comes into contact with, including your flesh, on fire. Back to that whole “metal buildings underground” thing. There’s really no getting around the whole getting lit on fire if you’re too close thing. 4. Fallout. When the bomb goes off it sucks all of the shit it just vaporized up into the air with it and as the blast cools, it begins to rain down the radioactive fucked molten wreckage onto everyone in a huge radius. Just because the fallout you can see has stopped doesn’t mean the molecular radiation has stopped. The survival factors for nuclear blasts are time, distance and shielding. The longer it takes for it to get to you the less of it there is. The further away from the source the less dead you are. Want to survive? Put 6 feet of concrete and/or 2 feet of lead between you and everything else. Yes. Those loons with their bunkers actually got something right. NOW! About radiation! If you are so fortunate as to survive one of these blasts and not be vaporized or burnt to a crisp or die of radiation poisoning within hours, you need to understand the types of radiation. Gamma radiation is the most “severe” in that it can penetrate your flesh through your clothes and house, causing severe illness. Gamma radiation fucks with your cell walls and disrupts your DNA. It kills you in hours, months or years. Some people survive decades. Think of gamma like the sun. Too much exposure gives you cancer. Now Beta, on the other hand, think of Beta particles like sand on the beach. Its in the air. Its in your clothes, in the creases of your fingers. But beta particles can burn through your flesh or get into your blood stream through open wounds. Luckily they can be stopped with nonporous materials, like rubber, or foil. Make that two points for the loony conspiracy theorists. Aluminum foil does protect from beta radiation. And finally, Alpha radiation. Think of alpha Radiation like dust motes. It takes a high density filter to prevent you from breathing them in and if you’re surrounded by rubble they’re probably everywhere. Alpha particles do the same thing as beta particles in terms of getting into your system and wrecking your shit. So! Survival? Most likely based on dumb luck. But! If you think you’re being nuked 1. get under ground or at least to an internal room of the building if no other options are available. 2. CLOSE YOUR EYES. Curl into the fetal position to protect your orifices and vital organs from gamma radiation and get low to the ground to reduce damage from the blast and potential ceiling collapse. 3.You will still feel the flash pass over you. Count. One, two, three… If you aren’t vaporized yet keep counting. Pray to every god ever imagined that you get to 10 before you hear the bang. 4. Bang. Try not to shit yourself. The fireball will follow almost instantly if you’re in range. Be prepared to start rolling to put yourself out. 5. Fallout rains down. Do not open your eyes. Do not stop praying. As hard as it is because time will feel as if it has slowed to a crawl, try not to leave your position for at least 30 minutes, although 60 minutes is better. At 30 minutes, only 60% of the potential fall out has fallen but by 60 minutes, up to 90% may have come down. 6. Remember, Alpha and beta radiation are particles. Do not put anything in your body that has not been thoroughly washed, dusted of or came from a sealed package. Point 3 for the conspiracy theorists, hot pockets and canned food are probably still safe. Do not leave shelter without goggles, and try to wrap yourself in a minimum of those weird space blankets but rubber and metal lined suits (like hazmat suits) are best for the job. Good luck in the future apocalypse! Reblogged with improved readability! Look whats Relevant again… I wonder if there’s any where to watch White Light, Black Rain. Saw it back in highschool. History repeats and all that jazz. After all, It’s not like ‘duck and cover’ and other nuclear protection methods of dubious quality weren’t a mainstream in the Cold War or anything… We’ve been here before. It’s just the first time around for us younger crowd. Stay safe.

Apparently, Baseball, and Beautiful: crime show: well we don't know what time she was taken but as you can see in this convenience store security footage she's mouthing something and our lip reading technology tells us she's saying 'those three wise men they ve got a semi by the sea which are lyrics to James Blunt's song Wisemen which was playing on that store's favoured radio station at approximately 3:18PM and she disappears from view exactly five minutes later so therefore m crying cause most secunty cams would have timestamps crime show: now see usually we'd manage to get a timestamp from the security footage but unfortunately in this case the cameras only record a live feed and while you would think this means we shouldn't be able to see the footage at all, luckily a famous Twutch streamer happened to be using it as their background footage while recording yesterday so jenroses yes, but can you blow it up and enhance it? unfortunately this particular footage is extremely low quality and very grainy but as Izoom in on this super blurry pixelated mage you can see the details become much clearer and easier to identify But what about the extremely specific pollen found on the camera lens? good eye! originally I didn't even notice it was there but whie combing through the footage I noticed three different people sneezed whille in view of the camera. I did some research and found that the particles represent the pollen of this obscure plant life that is native to this particular state, which really doesn't help us, except that it only ever blooms in the opposite season! So I did some digging and found four nurseries within a 50 mile radius, only one of which sell that plant all year round, which of course means mongolman101 Hold on just one moment! If the twitch streamer was using the cameras live feed as background, then we should know the ime of the crime! The twitch archive should mark how long the streamer had been on by the time of the perpetrators presence onscreen, and if we know when they went live, we will know the time the perpetrator was in the building DAMNIT jONES THIS ISN'T YOUR CASE WELL IT'S MY CASE NOW! The Captain thinks your kidnapping is related to my investigation into that cult up state. So, apparently, we're supposed to work together. I'm not any happier than you are. but I hate sharing! TOUGH SHIT MCNAMARA! Your kidnapping case is somehow connected with that cult that's been sacrificing its members to in the belief that it will appease the elder god Cthulhu. Now, I don't like it any more than you do, and I'm worse at sharing than a toddler with a new favorite toy, but lives may well be on the line here! Are you willing to put aside our differences, and do what needs to be done?! Alright, but when we catch the perp he's mine. I don't care if he's sacrificed a hundred victims to goddamn Mickey Mouse! That man may know who killed my father, and I wont let anyone get in my way -not even someone with your develish smile. Do you think you're the only one who wants to find Eric's murderer?1 He was my partnerl He was my friend Iknow we haven't worked together before, but this case will have us working together for a while, until we eventually find your fathers killer. And I can see this case taking us a long time, and defining both of our lives for the foreseeable future. But don't worry McNamara, my years of experience on the force, put together with your grit, tenacity, and loose understanding of the rules will make for a great partnership, with plenty of laughs and sexual tension to go around. Until some being from on high decides the precinct isn't ready for a same sex couple, and I rekindle my relationship with my previously unmentioned ex-wife. But we, and some unknown watchers of our adventures, will always know we were meant to be together, weirdly large age gap be damned! Yeah, and while Eric was off playing cops and robbers with you, I grew up without a dad! Do you know how many times I stared at my baseball glove, wishing he was there to throw it to me? You may have lost Eric, but I never even got to have him! But you're right. This case will definitely take at least a full year, especially with the fact that we will be constantly interrupted with other, smaller cases, one of which will be halloween themed. Were working together for the forseeable future, and my playful countenance and morbid wit will very quickly mesh with your hardened attitude and tendency to keep secrets. And while you go back to your unhappy, stiff relationship with your ex wife, I will be shown having constant meaningless sex with a multitude of beautiful women so that the writers can really get across how Not Gay I am. It's gonna be a wild ride, Jones. And there had better be stakeouts. executive producer dick wolf Source: aloverthegaf Tumblr Crime Show

Absolutely! The average active adult needs 2,000 calories per day in order to function in a safe and healthy manner. If I’m active to the point where I consistently run 1+ hour every day, then it is far more likely that my caloric needs are around 2,400-2,500. Considering that, a meal of 1,200 calories would perfectly suit my needs. It would supply roughly half of my calorie requirements, which is a God-send since a fast food meal is relatively cheap. It’s a great value, especially if I don’t have much time to cook or have the resources to prepare my own meals! The average burger is going to supply me with significant protein and carbs. That’s exactly what I’d need in order to build more muscle and have enough energy to make it through a workout. Even the sugar within the meal can be beneficial in supplying me with a boost of energy and can stop me from feeling hungry for a prolonged period of time. Not half bad. Is this the most healthy meal known to man? Of course not. But it’s still a very reasonable deal and the calorie count is well within the average adult’s daily needs.  Don’t let calories scare you! You need them. If you were capable of burning off an entire meal within the hour, you’d probably be dead by now. 1200 empty calories in a meal next to no nutrition. all the calories are sugar and fat. that’s it. you’ll have no energy and have glucose spikes in your blood because the lack of fiber because of the lack of complex carbs. this is diabetes in a meal.  so no, you should not be hungry for diabetes Nutritionally, this BK meal contains roughly 28g of protein and 3g of dietary fiber. It potentially also includes 35% of our Vitamin C daily requirements, 2% Vitamin A, 12% calcium, and 27% iron. Of the 1,010 calories (that I could verify directly from the company’s nutritional information guide), only 410 are from fat. That isn’t a terribly significant amount of fat, in the long run, nor are the nutrients small enough to be viewed as negligible. Eating this will not cause you to get diabetes. Eating this meal is perfectly fine if you do have diabetes, as long as you are able to adjust your insulin intake accordingly. So don’t use an illness as your debate point - Diabetic people are not a prop. “So don’t use an illness as your debate point - Diabetic people are not a prop.” I want that and variations of that on t shirts. damn, man. Someone just got completely schooled by a nutritionist. THIS A GOOD POST I’ve reblogged this again but I feel like it needs to be SAID again. Also someone needs to please come drive me to burger king and buy me a burger. Pretty please? I am diabetic, and the only thing that would give me pause is the drink. If that’s a diet soda, then it’s all fine. I mean sure, white bread isn’t the best possible thing, but it is the kind I mostly eat, and fried potatoes are basically OK because they’re starch, not simple sugar. Fries and a burger are better for me and more predictable than fruit. Fruit is a wild gamble. This meal - assuming diet soda - is one I can dose for. (I am diabetic because autoimmune conditions run in my family, and my pancreas has been randomly targeted for death by my immune system. Diet didn’t cause it and couldn’t have prevented it. Do not tell me I’m sick because I eat wrong. I’m alive because I eat.) We also need to ditch the idea that there is any such thing as food that is just “empty calories”. Presumably what people mean by that is that the only nutritional value something gives you is it’s calorific content.  The only foods that do that are things that are literally pure sugar. If you are eating pure sugar then yes you are only getting calories in the form of short chain carbohydrates/sugars that are broken down into glucose quickly. But for some people and in some instances that’s not a bad thing.  “empty calories” aren’t morally or even nutritionally bad. Sometimes that’s what our body needs -  a quick injection of glucose and calories for energy. Honestly I would rather glug a glucose drink like lucozade than a high caffeine “energy drink” when I am tired and need a boost any day of the week. But when people apply the “empty calories” thing to actual foods that aren’t pure sugar it is just inaccurate and frustrating. I mean, let’s take a step up from pure sugar and mix it with a fat in order to make buttercream frosting. If you at a spoon full of that it wouldn’t be “empty calories”. Sure it is a high sugar content so you are getting a high number of calories per spoonful and they are short chain carbohydrates so it’s not lasting energy but it’s still vital energy. But you are also ingesting fat. Fat isn’t bad for you, we need fats in our diet. It’s not a “empty calorie” it’s a vital part of how our body works. OK let’s look at something more sensible, a burger bun. Just he bun mind you, not even a complete meal like a full on burger. Even white bread contains a lot of nutrients which are useful to your body. You are going to be getting a mixture of carbohydrates both short and long so your body will have ongoing energy. Even white flour contains some proteins and trace minerals such as iron. There’s small amounts of fat, and salt in there too. Certainly not an “empty calorie” - quite a lo of useful stuff for your body. But please for the love of fluffy kittens stop thinking that “calories” are discrete magical food particles which are in some way separate from the things which actually make up our food. Food is pretty complex and our bodies even more so. We need calories, we also make use of a lot of different things that are found in all sorts of food.  Remember that a calorie is a unit of measurement to show how much energy something produces. Calorie content is calculated literally by burning food. A calorie isn’t a nutrient in the same way as carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, fats and minerals are. A food item isn’t made up of calories. It is made up of molecules of carbs, fats proteins and so on. It is the burning of those that gives us calorie content. If something has calories then it HAS to have other nutritional content in order to physically exist even if that content is just short chain carbohydrates.  Unless somebody is only eating pure sugar they aren’t eating “empty calories”.

Fire, Internet, and Money: Finallysomeonetellsitlike itis.Waytoo many people havefo orgotten how awesome NASAis iS. When NASA first started sending astronauts into space, they realized that the ball-point pen would not work at zero gravity A million dollar investment and two years of tests resulted in a pen that could write in space, upside down, on almost any surface and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300"с C0 When confronted with the same problem, the Russians used a pencil In the early years of space flight, both Russians and Americans used pencils in space. Unfortunately, pencil lead is made of graphite, a highly conductive material. Snapped graphite leads and particles in zero gravity are hugely problematic, as they will get sucked into the air ventilation or electronic equipment, easily causing shorts or fires in the pure oxygen environment of a capsule After the fire in Apollo 1 which killed all the astronauts on board, NASA required a writing instrument that wasn't a fire hazard. Fisher spent over a million dollars (of his own money) creating a pressurized ball point pen, which NASA bought at $2.95 each. The Russian space program also switched over from pencils shortly after. 40 years later snide morons on the internet still snigger about it, because snide morons on the internet never know what they are talking about. you should probably go to TheMetaPicture.com srsfunny: NASA Engineers Vs.
