thefloatingstone: scottandhiskind: thefandomdropout: Capitalism done got ahold of  Sesame Street  Okay but this doesn’t tell the full story. The only reason Sesame Street was sold to HBO, was because it was literally on the verge of being cancelled. This was because Sesame Street never received funding from PBS and instead made all of its revenue from things like books, video tapes, and live shows. Unfortunately, with the rise of things like you tube, people no longer paid for these things, so their funding was next to nonexistent and PBS couldn’t help them because most of their funds go to supporting channels/shows that don’t bring in any revenue at all and service mostly rural areas. This is where HBO comes in. They ended up buying Sesame Street to basically save it from the brink of destruction and to let it still be a resource. Also, this is one time where a corporation wasn’t entirely greedy. Yes HBO will still own Sesame Street and new episodes will air on its service, however part of the deal gave Sesame Street a massive flow of cash that will allow them to make twice as many episodes a season. Additionally, new episodes will still air on PBS, it will just be a few months after they air on HBO (which, let’s be real, isn’t gonna matter to little kids). So kids from poorer homes will still have access to the show and will now also have twice as much content to educate them. Sure having it on HBO first isn’t ideal, but they also aren’t playing the role of the evil corporation this time Sometimes, just sometimes, it turns out things will be okOnce again, beware of half truths. anscathmarcach: libertarirynn: keeppartyvangoing: thegooftroop: late last night i watched an episode of arthur where buster says “osamu tezuka is the god of manga” in japanese and strangely enough i wasnt dreaming ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Arthur had some extreme meta-references to pop culture. There’s no question the writers on the show were huge fucking nerds. Remember the South Park spoof? South Park. Referenced on a show for eight-year-olds that aired on PBS. I just noticed in the wrestling scene, there are humans, and even Hulk Hogan is not an uncanny-valley aardvarkized caricature of himself. The funniest thing to me about this segment is that in the original show after the South Park segment Arthur gets big mad that the aliens wouldn’t eat him for being too high in cholesterol and argues the point which ends with him shouting “I’m just as edible as anybody!” I remember this episode so well 😂: anscathmarcach: libertarirynn: keeppartyvangoing: thegooftroop: late last night i watched an episode of arthur where buster says “osamu tezuka is the god of manga” in japanese and strangely enough i wasnt dreaming ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? awesomacious: hint hint Disney: r/movies u/Sockin x2 6h The Cast of Guardians of the Galaxy release statement on James Gunn Being in the Guardians of the Galaxy" movies has been a great honor in each of our lives. We cannot let this moment pass without expressing our love, support, and gratitude for James. We are not here to defend his jokes of many years ago but rather to share our experience having spent many years together on set making Guardians of the Galaxy I and 2. The character he has shown in the wake of his firing is consistent with the man he was every day on set, and his apology, now and from years ago when first addressing these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we all know, trust, and love. In casting each of us to help him tell the story of misfits who find redemption, he changed our lives forever, We believe the theme of redemption has never been more relevant than now Each of us looks forward to working with our friend James again in the future. His story isn't over- not by a long shot. ue process in the court of public opinion. James is likely not the last good person to be put on trial. Given the growing political devide in this country, it's safe to say instances like this will continue, although we hope Americans from across the political spectrum can ease up on the character assassinations and stop weaponizing mob mentality It is our hope that what has transpired can serve as an example for all of us to realize the enormous responsibility we have to gurselves and to each other regarding the use of our written words when we etch them in digital stone; that we as a society nnay what help our warnds pbs.twimg.com e we decide capability to time to read 56.1k 7.5k , Share r/BlackPeopleTwitter u/KingPZe 8h You live and vou learn @bra_josef Just because you did something wrong in the past doesn't mean you can't advocate against it now. These people are yelling “Jews will not replace us” and an English version of a Nazi slogan “Blood and soil”. This concerns me very much so anti-nazi memes and shit will be taking over my blog. Any of you saying “stick to memes” are just fucking sympothizers for these fascist and Nazis. I have a large following and it is my responsibility to share this and make people more aware of this. I don’t care if you unfollow, I’ll get more people back in like a day. Memes will return Monday after whatever the fascists and Nazis do at the March is over -Rin (the fucker who runs 30-minute-memes) Uber, Lyft, AirBnb and many restaurants are denying service to anyone taking part in the Unite the Right Rally. There was an update on the video above one year after it happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwmr2QMLuWY PBS recently released a good documentary on this as well, it is more of a depressing update than the one I just listedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDZDm0yM8hM Oh shit, didn’t realise 30’ was a whiny liberal.
