As long as I said where I was going, who I was with, and when I was going to be back and then phone if anything changed I was allowed to do pretty much as I pleased from 13 onward. 
I moved back in with my parents after university and the first conversation  we had was my dad telling me that if I felt like they were treating me like a child to please tell them because they had no intention of doing so. 
I still live with them and I’m comfortable here as an adult. When I eventually move out again, which I feel no rush to do because I feel respected and given more than enough elbow room, I will probably talk to them often if not everyday. Because they’ve always respected my privacy and my autonomy both physically and emotionally. If you want an independent and fictional child trusting them and giving them their space will do you many more favours than not.

password protected my computer so i had to get permission every time i wanted to use it
put a passcode lock on our pantry so we couldn’t eat without permission
regularly checked our internet browsing history
shut off the internet at regular intervals, including when i needed it for university homework

in response, i went behind their backs and opened a new bank account, got a secret job, bought my own groceries, and used the wifi from the school across the street. they didn’t succeed in disciplining me. all they did was force me to distance myself from them.

Hey! I’m an election worker! If you ever have an issue like this please tell the people who are working at the polls! I don’t know about other states, as ours got new machines two years ago and we have some of the newest polling machines in the country, but I’m sure that your local polling place will do something about a machine like this. 
If you don’t trust the machines to allow you to vote for who you want, you ALWAYS have the right to ask for a paper ballot. If they refuse, get that shit on video and blast them on social media. Election offices HATE having people complain about them on social media. Be sure to specifically get them denying you a paper ballot. PAPER BALLOTS ARE NOT INVALID BALLOTS AND WILL BE COUNTED. 
Know your rights, be nice to election workers, be sure to register to vote, and actually get out there and vote! 
(Also, if you are willing and able, you should sign up to be an election worker. In the US there is a serious problem with most election workers being Republicans. Most election offices try to have a balance between Democrats, Republicans and Independent, but that’s kind of hard when Republicans are the only ones who sign up. The old proverb “What if an emergency vehicle needs to get where it’s going” came to life, and the sea went silent and parted to allow it through (swiftly…literally the truck was going about as fast as, if not faster than, it would have been if there had been cars it needed to go around).

Please share this. This was a rare occurrence where an emergency vehicle needed to go through the route of a protest, when usually they have predetermined alternative routes, and it went completely fine. Also for the love of god, have more respect for firefighters/EMTs…they know how to do their jobs. They’re ready for anything, including working around protests. 

So folks can stop using that tired old argument now (not that it was ever backed up by sources anyway).

It’s almost as though these protesters who are protesting for human rights are decent human people.

 The real answer is that it really wants you to go
 away
 That's a fledgling great horned owl, they're
 known for being generally ballsy and
 aggressive, and owls have been known to both
 climb trees and swim through still water in a
 pinch
 Most likely full scenario: the bird was practicing
 flying, but it fell because it's still a kid and they
 do that. It probably fell in/by the water. It then
 was like Oh Damn Oh Jesus and decided it was
 not in fact a duck and headed to
 you, and was utterly offended but confused on
 what to do. So it decided to Square Up and face
 you like the hellbeast it is.
 The pose it's taking in the pic is one I
 affectionately call Full Orb. A fully orbed owl is
 100% READY to FIGHT 1v1 no items final
 destination. You were probably its first up close
 encounter with a human, and since birds tend
 to associate larger animals with predators, it
 tried to make itself look as big as possible to
 make sure you know what's up. It was staring
 you down because it was waiting to see you
 make the first move in the dual or flee in fear
 from its superior owl might.

 towards you and then stares you down??

 The real answer is that it really wants you to go
 away
 That's a fledgling great horned owl, they're
 known for being generally ballsy and
 aggressive, and owls have been known to both
 climb trees and swim through still water in a
 pinch
 Most likely full scenario: the bird was practicing
 flying, but it fell because it's still a kid and they
 do that. It probably fell in/by the water. It then
 was like Oh Damn Oh Jesus and decided it was
 not in fact a duck and headed to
 you, and was utterly offended but confused on
 what to do. So it decided to Square Up and face
 you like the hellbeast it is.
 The pose it's taking in the pic is one I
 affectionately call Full Orb. A fully orbed owl is
 100% READY to FIGHT 1v1 no items final
 destination. You were probably its first up close
 encounter with a human, and since birds tend
 to associate larger animals with predators, it
 tried to make itself look as big as possible to
 make sure you know what's up. It was staring
 you down because it was waiting to see you
 make the first move in the dual or flee in fear
 from its superior owl might.
