9/11, America, and Dad: December 20, 2018 Dear Mr. President: I have been privileged to serve as our country's 26th Secretary of Defense which has allowed me to serve alongside our men and women of the Department in defense of our citizens and our ideals I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past two years on some of the key goals articulated in our National Defense Strategy: putting the Department on a more sound budgetary footing, improving readiness and lethality in our forces, and reforming the Department's business practices for greater performance. Our troops continue to provide the capabilities needed to prevail in conflict and sustain strong U.S. global influence One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to thos allies. Like you, I have said from the beginning that the armed forces of the United States should not be the policeman of the world. Instead, we must use all tools of American power to provide for the common defense, including providing effective leadership to our alliances NATO's 29 democracies demonstrated that strength in their commitment to fighting alongsid us following the 9-11 attack on America. The Defeat-ISIS coalition of 74 nations is further proof. Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model gaining veto authority over other nations' economic, diplomatic, and security decisions -to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades o immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position. The end date for my tenure is February 28, 2019, a date that should allow sufficient time for a successor to be nominated and confirmed as well as to make sure the Department's interests are properly articulated and protected at upcoming events to include Congressional Dad’s resignation letter.

Dad’s resignation letter.

Community, Fall, and Feminism: Cardi B Touches on Feminism in Recent Interview: "Anything a Man Can Do, I Can Do'" @balleralert Cardi B Touches on Feminism in Recent Interview: “Anything a Man Can Do, I Can Do” - blogged by: @ashleytearra ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In such a superficial, male-dominated industry, CardiB doesn’t fall victim to riding the wave that she’s “expected” to ride. Instead, she has unapologetically crafted her own, with no-holds-barred. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not only a rapper but a woman, too, the Bronx native certainly has faced many challenges. However, she continues to prevail, time and time again—living loudly and proudly—despite those who consistently fight so hard to bring her to silence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When it’s all said and done, she’s just a “regular, degular, shmegular” girl, from the streets of NY, who decided to go for it… and won. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She’s simply Cardi—no more, no less—and she proved that in a recent sit-down with i-D Magazine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During the candid interview, the 25-year-old opened up about her thoughts on feminism and how her stance in the culture is sometimes underestimated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Being a feminist is such a great thing, and some people feel like someone like me can’t be as great as that,” she says. “They think feminism is great and only a woman who can speak properly, who has a degree, who is a boss, a businessperson… they think only [someone like] Michelle Obama can be a feminist.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, at a time where even the slightest mention of the word “feminism” still acts as a touchy topic amongst the millennial community, Cardi didn’t end it there. She spoke her mind and spoke it truthfully. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “But, being a feminist is real simple; it’s that a woman can do things the same as a man. I’m equal to a n****. Anything a man can do, I can do,” she adds. “I can finesse, I can hustle. We have the same freedom. I was top of the charts. I’m a woman, and I did that. I do feel equal to a man.”

Dad, Fall, and Life: BE WHI YOU NEEDED YOU WH WERE YOUNGER A true father is always there. He is there to spill tears of happiness when his eyes fall upon his infant daughter. He is there with arms to catch her when she takes her first steps or stumbles. He is there to teach her at the youngest age, even though she might not understand half of it. He is there to help her color inside the lines, make her grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, and tie her shoes. He is there to hug her and kiss her on her first days of school, and to walk her in if need be. He is there to teach her and tease her and laugh with her. He is always there to embarrass her, but thats part of life. He is there to tell her to go ask her mother, when her mother told her to ask him. He is there to lecture her, prepare her for the monster called high school. He is there to put up with her teenage moods and her co-ed relationships. He is there to approve, disapprove, accept and forgive. He is there to give her a big bundle of flowers when she graduates, to smile when her name is called and feel proud. He is there to embrace her and kiss her before she goes to live and learn a thousand miles away. He is there to see her become a working woman, to walk her down the aisle (or not, if her independence and stubbornness prevail after all). He is there to watch her grow as the lines on his face grow. He is there to welcome her home, always, and let her hug him and smell the smell she remembers from childhood, the warm, protecting, comforting smell of dad. But most of all, he is always there to love her. And she is always there to love him back. Dad, I love you. ~ Katie Schmarr 😇 . . .

Community, Crazy, and Crime: n I refuse to associate my peaceful religion with monstrous individuals who use my religion. These murderous fanatics kill Muslims and non-Muslims indiscriminately. They hate all of us. To those asking how do us Muslims feel? We feel exactly the SAME way a non-Muslim would feel. Shocked, disgusted, frightened and scared that this happens in our world. But in addition, when these attacks occur; for us Muslims there is a separate dimension reserved. We become centre stage for blame, we have to provide answers, we are on the receiving end of Islamophobic abuse and it's assumed that these crazy culprits must represent our beliefs? NO! Just because they say they do it for "Allah" or "Islam" it does not mean they reflect us or the religion of over 1.6 BILLION Muslims on this planet. Why haven't we all blown ourselves up if the religion commands us to do so? BECAUSE ISLAM DOESN'T TEACH THAT. When a white supremacist kills innocent people, do they represent every white person? OF COURSE NOT. Crazy people are crazy. Please apply the same logic here. During these horrible attacks, there are Muslim doctors, nurses, police officers, charity workers, business owners and taxi drivers who help unconditionally. There is outrage and condemnation on social media and mainstream outlets from Muslim public figures, politicians, community leaders and your everyday normal Muslim neighbours, parents, workers, students and more. Please remember those Muslims next time you want to believe everyone is the same. My thoughts and prayers are with anyone that has been a victim of an inhumane crime. Let us not be divided or feel defeated by those who want us to be. May we stay safe and let the power of love and humanity prevail.

Family, Memes, and Work: Justino Mora 46 mins Los Angeles, California 3 This work is so draining at times. Seriously, undocumented immigrants care more about fixing this country's mess than most U.S. citizens. And this is not even "our country" Hrantoftheday #HereToStay HACA 66 1 Comment 2 Sha @JustinoMora1, co-founder of @undocumedia: "In 2009, one of my favorite aunts passed away from cancer. My aunt Maria helped my family when we needed her most and thanks to her I'm here in the U.S. I believe she could've lived for at least 10 more years if she had received the proper treatment and care. She was a Legal Permanent Resident and months before she passed away she had expressed interest in becoming a U.S. citizen "to help make a bigger difference". She was hilarious, smart, loving, hard-working, and one of the main matriarchs in my family. . Years after her death, I've realized her health insurance didn't provide her with better treatment and doctors because of "pre-existing conditions". As Trump and the GOP continue to push for their disastrous "health care" bill, let's not forget the impact of their actions and words. I can only imagine what the millions of other immigrant families, women, low-income folks, people with "pre-existing conditions", among others are feeling right now. It is our moral and civic responsibility to hold Trump and his minions accountable for their actions. . We are the resistance. We are not giving up. We will prevail. Children, Fucking, and Memes: xliot This is literally the 100th year of Turkey denying the genocide of the Armenian people during WWI little-spoon-asami I'm actually doing my genocide project in history on this and we started today and it was eerie that the first fucking time I hear about the genocide is on basically the centennial of it. Listen to this shit. Men were dragged out if their homes and tied up and taken to the outskirts of the city and then were executed by firing squad or bayonetted if the bullets didn't kill them. Plus if there were any Kurds or Non-militant Turks around when these executions took place, the would join in the fun and stab them with knives, or beat them to death with sticks. When the men were all killed in a certain village, the women, children, and elderly were told to pack their belongings and evacuate. They were lied to and told they were being moved into a non-military zone for their safety when in all actuality is was a death march to the Syrian Desert. 1/2 It astounds and disgusts me that there is little to no awareness around this genocide, as well as so many others. The western world truly only learns white history and I really hope I live to see a day where the history of all cultures, ethnicities, races, and nationalities are taught, respected, and appreciated in all educational settings and all around the world in general. Without any awareness around this horrific genocide we are silencing the sufferings and wrong doing of so many that deserve and should of had their stories brought to light. Racism will continue to prevail across the globe if issues only affecting white people continue to receive awareness and recognition, while the history and still present day events harming people of colour are ignored and silenced. Progress starts with education!! - Sierra Armeniangenocide armenian neverforget Edit: the point of this post was not to place blame on Turkey - or to imply that Armenians are all saints. The khojaly genocide is a tragedy and deserves recognition and reconciliation as well but that does not devalue anything that happened in the Armenian genocide. Credit: @saltysirius
