New York and Washington Threaten to Sue Trump for the Termination of DACA-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Attorney generals from both NewYork and Washington have threatened to sue the WhiteHouse amid Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ABC reports that Attorney Generals Bob Ferguson of Washington and Eric Schneiderman of New York issued statements Monday concerning the matter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “Ending this policy represents an assault on the values that built this state and this nation. The president’s action would upend the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people who have only ever called America their home, including roughly 42,000 New Yorkers,” Schneiderman said in a statement along with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. “It will rip families apart, sow havoc in our communities and force innocent people — our neighbors, our friend, and our relatives — to live in fear.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “If President Trump follows through on his reported decision to cancel DACA after a six-month delay, the Washington Attorney General’s Office will file suit to halt this cruel and illegal policy and defend DACA recipients,” Ferguson said in his statement. “We have been working closely with legal teams around the country, and we expect to be joined by other states in this action.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ DACA was a program started in 2012 by the Obama administration. The program allows certain unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children, to apply for deferred action on deportation and for work permits. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Ferguson has taken legal action against the Trump administration before. He was one of the first state attorneys general to pursue legal action against the travel ban Trump tried to implement earlier this year.: New York and Washington Threaten to Sue Trump for the Termination of DACA @balleralert New York and Washington Threaten to Sue Trump for the Termination of DACA-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Attorney generals from both NewYork and Washington have threatened to sue the WhiteHouse amid Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Black Girl Magic! Atlanta Teen Becomes Youngest to Attend University of West Georgia At The Age of 13 - blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A 13-year-old Atlanta teen is exemplifying black girl magic to the highest degree. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, KimoraHudson has just made history in becoming the youngest student to attend the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hudson enrolled into the university's Move On When Ready-Dual Enrollment program to receive college credit that will classify her as a college junior after graduation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I’ve always raised my hand first in class. That just felt normal to me. But when I started getting accepted into really advanced educational programs, I started thinking, ‘OK, I’m really smart,’” she told the AJC, revealing that she's just "doing what comes natural.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although Hudson has a few years before college graduation, she plans to go into the science field to become either a marine biologist, veterinarian, surgeon or psychologist. Despite the major she chooses for her education, she wants to continue to be an example for young women, specifically young black women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "People are so afraid to go out and try new things. I want to help bring a community together for young black women,” Kimora said. “I want to be an advocate for people who step out the box and express themselves. I’m going to keep going.”: Black Girl Magic! Atlanta Teen Becomes Youngest to Attend University of West Georgia At The Age of 13 @balleralert Black Girl Magic! FOLLOW @undocumedia for updates on DACA and other calls to action for ImmigrantJustice Since 2012, more than 790,000 undocumented [youth] immigrants have benefited from DACA and this has allowed them to overcome hurdles and access opportunities that were not available to them prior. Needless to say their lives have drastically changed and for many they've been able to better provide for their family, friends, and community. The Trump administration is expected to decide the fate of DACA by September 5th, but an announcement can come as soon as today. *What is DACA? - Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a kind of administrative relief from deportation. The purpose of DACA is to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA gives young undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation, and 2) a work permit. The program expires after two years, subject to renewal. From @veterans_come_first Jeff Shelton, who spent over 20 years serving in the armed forces, retiring as a Major from the U.S. Air Force, is preparing to start his second year teaching at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg. Shelton is among more than 3,000 veterans in Texas and more than 20,000 nationwide who traded bulletproof vests for textbooks to become teachers supported by the Troops to Teachers program. Every time he parachuted into enemy territory, every time he held a dying friend in the back of a helicopter, every time he watched a child collapse from grave injuries, peace for Shelton seemed to slip farther and farther away. He found his inner anguish only intensified when he retired from the military in December 2016 and finally had time to process all the wickedness he had seen in the world. It was almost too much for the 42-year-old to process, until he walked into his Junior ROTC classroom inside Lamar Consolidated High School later that month. "I didn't take the time to deal with my past. I had a lot of friends commit suicide or die — some of them died with me in the back of a helicopter. I just never dealt with it," Shelton said. "So here, I found a lot of peace in helping (the students) transition into adulthood." The employment of American veterans in schools is, undoubtedly, good news, as the school authorities and the teaching staff of schools consist mainly of left-wing liberals and therefore inspires children with purely left-liberal views. That is why such a large percentage of young people are very liberal. That veterans will be able to teach children the right attitude towards their country, their traditions, their past and their own state. police cop cops thinblueline lawenforcement policelivesmatter supportourtroops BlueLivesMatter AllLivesMatter brotherinblue bluefamily tbl thinbluelinefamily sheriff policeofficer backtheblue: SOME COMBAT VETERANS ARE TEACHERS VETERANS COME FIRST LIKEe RESPECT From @veterans_come_first Jeff Shelton, who spent over 20 years serving in the armed forces, retiring as a Major from the U.S. Air Force, is preparing to start his second year teaching at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg. Breaking DREAMAct The 2017 bill introduced Thursday would make young immigrants eligible for lawful permanent residence, a step toward citizenship. The immigrants must be longtime U.S. residents who are graduating from school or have a GED, or are pursuing higher education or serve in the military. They must pass background checks, show they are proficient in English and know U.S. history, and demonstrate that they haven’t committed a felony or other serious crime. The legislation was introduced with some urgency because a group of conservative state attorneys general has issued an ultimatum on the subject to President Donald Trump. They’ve demanded that by Sept. 5, his administration stop renewing or granting temporary deportation deferrals and work permits to young immigrants through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The DACA program was authorized by former President Barack Obama. If the deadline isn’t met, the attorneys general have promised to try to end the DACA program in court, where they have a pending legal suit against Obama’s attempts to expand the program. New York inmates defeat Harvard debate team Story highlights The Eastern New York Correctional Facility's debate team has also beaten West Point The debate team is part of the Bard Prison Initiative, which has 300 inmates enrolled (CNN)In a debate between Harvard College students and those from any other college, some might guess that the Harvard students would win. And if the other side was a group of inmates at a maximum-security prison? Maybe even more so. That would be a mistake. Inmates from the Eastern New York Correctional Facility defeated the prestigious Harvard debate team in mid-September as part of the Bard Prison Initiative, a program run by Bard College to provide college education to qualifying prisoners, according to the Wall Street Journal. If you knew the prison debate club's record, you might have voted for the inmates. They've defeated a nationally ranked team from the University of Vermont and the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. (They lost a rematch against West Point, and it's become something of a rivalry.) The prison club had invited the Harvard College Debating Union to participate. Inmates had to defend a point of view with which they fiercely disagreed, a common practice in debate competition: "Resolved: Public schools in the United States should have the ability to deny enrollment to undocumented students." After the debate, Carlos Polanco told the Wall Street Journal that he would never want to keep a child from attending school but that he was grateful for his chance to attend Bard College in prison. "We have been graced with opportunity," said Polanco, 31, who is in prison for manslaughter. "They make us believe in ourselves." The Harvard club seemed to take the loss gracefully. "Three members of the HCDU had the privilege of competing against members of the Bard Prison Initiative's debate program," the group posted on its Facebook page.
