<li><strong>As cruel as this may sound, you have <em>zero</em> jurisdiction over what other people are “allowed” to joke or talk about. </strong> Yes, you can tell someone to stop, but <em>that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen</em>.  One of these days, you’re going to have to learn to ignore things that bother you, or simply remove yourself from that situation, because <strong>real life does not have an “ignore” feature</strong>.  The best thing you can do for yourself is to just get up, and walk away.  You leave what is bothering you behind you, and hopefully, that may also get the message across that you don’t wish to hear what they’re saying.<br/><br/>If we tried to sanitize the world of everything that someone, somewhere, deemed “offensive”, or anything that made them “uncomfortable”, there would likely be no world left to live in.  There are even people in this world genuinely afraid of the depth marker lines painted on the bottom of swimming pools.  I get weirded out if I have to drink out of a clear glass with images on the outside that can be seen from the inside, even though I’m fully aware of how incredibly <em>stupid</em> that is (perhaps megalohydrothalassophobia is partly to blame).   I’m incredibly uncomfortable around large dogs, but you don’t see me going around screaming at dog owners to put their pets to sleep, nor demanding that printed drinking glasses should no longer be manufactured.  <strong>What happened to you is a travesty that cannot be undone, but you must understand that you share this earth with over 7 billion other human beings, and they are all different than you.</strong>  This includes people that use humor as a coping mechanism, in order to alleviate the fear they have.  If you can joke about something, you strip it of the power to control you, and determine how you live your life.</li>

<p>What’s the betting that whenever she hears people on SVU/CSI type programmes try to bully suspects into confessing or gloat at those found guilty by teasing them about their future cell-mate “Bubba” and tell him to keep his back to the wall, don’t drop the soap etc she either laughs or doesn’t even notice? Because the brutal rapes of men that account for more than half the victims, are so accepted, genuinely encouraged, and ignored by the prison system that practically no but the victims would be sensitive to it. Worst of all, those in for petty/victimless crimes (such as smoking a joint for pain relief) and the falsely accused make up a disproportionate number of victims since they’d be the least prepared for a violent environment, so it’s likely they did nothing that anyone could use to justify their trauma.</p>

I can extrapolate from this that they don’t want it to stop.</p>
