It’s sickening.

The plot of Coco is literally the plot of The Book of Life with some minor changes so the plagiarism isn’t that blatantly obvious.

Boycot this movie. Disney didn’t want to make The Book of Life because it would not interest USAmerican (ahem gringo ahem) audiences. And now they are basically plagiarising TBL.

Disney made it abundantly clear they only care about using Latin American cultures, Mexican in this case, for money, but actually don’t care about Latinxs/Latin Americans and respectful and authentic rep. If not, look at The Emperor’s New Groove and that wtf thing they did with Elena of Avalor.

Ah yes, boycotting a racially and culturally diverse film will really show Disney that they should……… stick to…….. white movies? That doing anything besides a ‘safe’ film will end in boycotts and rage on the internet?

Also like….

“The day John Lasseter gave the thumbs up for this movie, I immediately felt this huge weight drop onto my shoulders because I knew that we were doing something different than we had ever made at the studio and that for the first time, we were going to have this enormous responsibility to do right by this culture and not lapse into stereotype or cliché,”

and…

The result is that Unkrich secured an all-Latino voice cast (including Gael Garcia Bernal as a skeleton named Hector who helps Miguel on his journey in the Land of the Dead) and sought authenticity via numerous story consultants, key crew members and filmmakers (like co-director Adrian Molina), and musical talent culled from artists down in Mexico. Unkrich, Molina, and producer Darla K. Anderson made frequent trips south of the border (in fact, Lasseter approved the film just three weeks before one Dia de Muertos fell, spurring a first-time scramble to not miss out) and soon sent his story artists, production designers, and even sound crew down to take the aesthetic pulse of villages.

From x

Also looks like this was in pre production in 2013 so thats probably part of why they didnt want to pick up BoL? It could have been for any reason tbh

Anyways like, if you dont wanna support it don’t but y’all are always clamoring for more varied representation in dinsey and pixar so maybe don’t boycott a film they are using to test to waters? Like if they make another Scandinavian fantasy film after this and you all rage Im gonna remember this, put your money where your mouth is :/

Also like, am I crazy or has Disney not been actively including latin@ representation? Or is Elena Princess of Avalore a fever dream Ive been having

Remember don’t get on the hate bandwagon with no proof; you claim that the story is a rip-off but you don’t go into any detail about either plot. We’re supposed to just believe your interpretation? I’d definitely need to know a lot more about Coco before casting judgment.

And Book of Life came out in 2014, if Coco was in pre-production at 2013 it could easily have been passed over for the fact that they already had an in house story to represent that market, and we all know full well that Disney likes to go through a different cultural story/background for each feature film as part of their longstanding tradition.

Even if you want to assume the worst and that their motives were bad and that they’re some evil megacorporation, which you can surely be entitled to think I’m not going to say Disney is amazing and doesn’t have a horrible history- at the very least they are finally making non-white movies. Boycotting the very content we have been begging for for ages isn’t going to get us anywhere, it’s just going to make that content that we asked for unable to turn a profit and therefore impossible to create and sustain a business with. We can’t expect people to make content and not support themselves on it as well, they need to make money to be viable sources of income to sustain the business. If this film doesn’t make money all Disney is going to know is that they can’t make feature films about Latino stories/cultures/etc because it won’t sell.

Why are y'all always doing this shit? Seriously why? I’m beginning to think that you secretly don’t want any diversity at all because any attempt at it is never enough for you. You boycott The Great Wall because it had ONE white dude on the poster. Never mind the primarily Asian cast. Never mind the CHINESE director. You made it clear that you weren’t the least bit interested in Asian made films with Asian actors as long as there was a white guy anywhere within 5000 feet of it. Then you flip shit about TGITS. Never mind the fact that Major isn’t even a freaking human. Since it was from an anime she had to be Japanese. Never mind the fact that plenty of animes are actually depicting white people. Never mind the fact that TGITS fans from Japan loved the idea of Scarlet Johansen playing the lead. Never mind the fact that it brought attention to a well-made anime classic. Just wah wah boycott because we know what Japanese people should be offended by better than they do. Maui was too big, something something Polynesian stereotypes. Honey Lemon can’t be Latino! She’s not brown enough and she doesn’t run around making tacos and screaming “ay dios mio!” all the time! The Princess and the Frog girl was going to be named Maddie but no we can’t have that because it sounds vaguely like the word “Mammie” if you have absolutely no idea how English works.

You claim you want diversity and then you absolutely dissect and destroy anything that attempts it. You refuse to be satisfied with anything because any attempt at diversity will not be quite right for you. You claim to speak on behalf of other cultures because apparently you don’t think that they are smart enough to speak for themselves.

Well speaking as a female minority, stop it. I’m sick of this crap. I don’t need you to speak for me and tell me what I need to be offended by. I don’t need you to stop people from enjoying every damn thing because you love being bitter so much. You are destroying the hard work of minority creators and great strides in cultural sensitivity and awareness because you’re happier if everyone stays separate and hating each other. You’re as disgusting with your stereotypes as the racists you claim to hate.

Memes, 🤖, and Media: White supremacist accused of murder says he came to NYC to kill blacks James Harris Jackson, suspected in the stabbing death of Timothy Caughman, served four vears in the Armv. 😡😠💔😢 A fame-seeking whitesupremacist came to NewYork to kill blackpeople in the “ media capital of the world” — and took out his race rage on a 66-year-old can collector, police said Wednesday. Army veteran James Harris Jackson, 28, took a Bolt Bus from Maryland on Friday to “target male blacks” in the city, said Assistant Chief William Aubry of Manhattan South Detectives. He particularly didn’t like blackmen who were romantically involved with whitewomen, sources said. “The reason why he picked New York is because it is the media capital of the world,” Aubry said. “He wanted to make a statement.” Jackson, who served in the Army for four years, identifies as a white supremacist and told police he penned a manifesto about his racist views, the police sources said. That screed, Jackson told police, contains information about an imminent attack on blacks in New York. He said it is saved on a computer seized by the NYPD, but cops need a search warrant to look at it, the sources said. Jackson used a 26-inch mini-sword to repeatedly stab Timothy Caughman in the chest and back as he was digging through the trash near the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 36th Street at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to Aubry. A witness told police of hearing Caughman yell, “What are you doing? Get off me!” and saw Jackson on top of him. After the stabbing, Caughman stumbled into the Midtown South station house for help while Jackson cleaned the blood off himself in a restaurant restroom, sources said. Caughman died at a hospital.

Interhouse unity could fuck off was the last thought that went through Harry’s mind when he went to break Malfoy’s perfect nose. He’d had enough, enough sneering, enough taunting, enough cheating during their damn seeker’s games which! Harry was only doing because he was bored and couldn’t play and fuck if Malfoy wasn’t the only one in the school good enough to even keep up. But he was done. He didn’t break his goddamn nose which was a shame, only grazed the prat’s cheek and got him once in the stomach which made Malfoy wheeze in a very satisfying manner. Before he cracked the back of his head into Harry’s jaw and tried to punch Harry back, missing and hitting his ear, which Harry learned was intensely painful. They had ended up in a tangled heap of rage on the floor, eventually separated by an irate Headmistress McGonagall who informed them that they had two choices, two weeks of detentions with Filch or they could hold hands for an hour. Harry was very tempted to take the detention but the look of inordinate glee on Finch’s face changed his mind. Apparently, it had the same effect on Malfoy because now they were stuck, side by side in two chairs in the middle of the Great Hall, holding hands. A great many of their classmates were gathered around gleefully watching. Seamus was already taking bets on if they could last the hour. Most of the bets were on how they would snap and end up viciously assaulting each other. Harry took a deep breath and refused to look at anyone. It was just an hour. He could manage an hour. Malfoy was even being decent for once, covering his face with his hand and staying still and silent, just waiting for the storm of humiliation to pass overhead. Five minutes passed, then ten, fifteen and then twenty and nothing happened. A lot of the crowd dispersed, muttering and bored, leaving only the dedicated few who had money riding on the outcome. Harry dropped his head into the crook of his elbow wishing he could take a nap or even study, he’d have rather done almost anything than hold Malfoy’s hand. In the dark of his arm, his senses gently refocused, on his breathing and the gentle thrum of his own heart and then on Malfoy’s hand. It was strange how easy it was to hold the other bloke’s hand. For some reason, he had been expecting it to be unpleasant, slimy or sweaty or just, something but it was almost… nice. Malfoy’s hand was smooth and cool and his fingers were long and well shaped. Harry startled as he realized he had shifted his grip to lace their fingers together. He felt Malfoy stiffen and go still. Harry lifted his head and glanced out of the corner of his eye at the other boy. He hadn’t moved but his breathing seemed uneven. Harry’s own heart seemed to be beating too fast suddenly and he felt almost shaky. He closed his eyes again, a thrum of anxiety slipping under his skin. His hand loosened and slipped down so he could run his thumb across the inside of Malfoy’s wrist. He traced the prominent bones, the warmer skin that was almost silky across the pad of his thumb. He swallowed hard feeling like he was going barmy and unable to stop himself. Malfoy’s fingers tightened around his. Harry jumped as he felt Malfoy squeeze, pulling their hands tight together, his thumb sliding along the outside of Harry’s finger, tracing the web between his thumb, their thumbs meeting and then Malfoy’s thumb traced across his palm. Harry’s head jerked up and he stared at Malfoy, his whole body tensed and flushed. Malfoy’s hair swung down to cover his eyes but Harry could see the flush of color on his cheeks. He squeezed Malfoy’s hand tight, his fingers shaking with adrenaline. Malfoy finally broke from covering his face, looked over at Harry with eyes dilated and bit his bottom lip making it bloom pink. Harry’s breath caught in his throat and he licked his lips. “Fuck you, Potter,” Malfoy growled, gripping Harry’s hand so tight it hurt. He stood, jerking Harry up, clasping a hand behind his neck and pulling him into a bruising kiss. Harry shuddered his hand clutching Malfoy’s robe. The scent of Malfoy filling his nose, strange and yet unbearably familiar. Malfoy was warm under his hand. “Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus,” Malfoy hissed as he pulled away. Harry stared into grey eyes, licked his lips and slid his arm tight around Malfoy’s waist, pulling him tight against himself and kissing him back with a hungry desperation. “Well, that isn’t quite how I imagined that working out,” McGonagall said gravely. Harry jumped and pulled away suddenly and acutely aware of all the students around them, staring in open-mouthed shock. He felt his face get hot with embarrassment. Malfoy smirked and lifted their linked hands, “We haven’t let go.” Hermione nudged Seamus, “Pay up.” Oh my god I never knew how desperately I needed this This is literally one of the best things ever in my life ever ever
