castielific: wolfinthethorns: Honestly, in my work as a therapist, I’m seeing this A Lot, and tbh I still don’t have a satisfactory approach to it. A heavy dose of Existentialist “create your own Purpose” tempered with “when the plane’s going down, put your own oxygen mask on first”, but… yeah, there is no ethical way to work on individual emotional distress without acknowledging the systemic socioeconomic, geopolitical fuckery going on at the moment, and the sheer grief that comes with it. I’m a guidance counselor/psychologist for teenagers and it’s getting really hard to motivate young people to work for a future they don’t believe in.   They look at ther future and see global warming, wwIII, unemployement, political unstability, poison in everything  they eat, the earth and animals dying all around them.  I saw this video where someone was asking french teens in the 50s how they imagine the future would be. The war hadn’t been over for long and yet it was all positive with like peace and flying cars and such. Then they went and ask the same questions to nowadays teens and hell that was depressing. Some still had hope, but it was just that “well I hope I’ll have a nice house and maybe some kid” but there was such a hesitancy to it, like they didn’t dare to hope too much.  People mock Greta Thunberg but what they don’t get is that when she said “you stole my dreams”, it was the truth.  Young people don’t get to dream like they used to. They don’t dream anymore, they grief all that won’t be anymore and that’s just so fucking sad.  : castielific: wolfinthethorns: Honestly, in my work as a therapist, I’m seeing this A Lot, and tbh I still don’t have a satisfactory approach to it. tiggurix: cracked: 22 Things Movies Get Completely Wrong About Mental Illness Cracked doing the Lord’s work and shedding light on ableism and inaccuracy. : on Full House, DJ gets over an eating disorder in 3 days. FEME In the real world, it can take yearsS On the very special episode "Shape Up," all it takes for DJ to quit starving herself is a chat with dad. The reality is that recovery is a difficult process that can take seven to ten years, or longer. CRACKED COM https//www.anred.com/tx.html Hollywood loves a sad, brooding love interest. Real depression Kills relationships. That sad character being portrayed as romantic would actually be really hard to have an ongoing relationship with. Being depressed can cause them to pay less attention to their partner, be less involved, be more irritable, and have trouble enjoying time together. And a failing relationship creates a cycle of deeper depression. CRACKED COM https://blogs scientificamerican.com/mind-guest-blog/ the-waming-signs-that-depression-is-affecting-your-relationship/ If a character is mentally ill, they're usually violent. That's the opposite of how it really is. Movies like Se7en, Silence Of The Lambs, and Fight Club and shows like Hannibal, Mr. Robot, and Dexter perpetuate the stereotype that people with mental illnesses are fearsome criminals, if not outright violent ones. In fact, people with mental illness are much more likely to be victims of violent crime. CRACKED GOM http://www.mentalhealth gov/basics/myths-facts in Silver Linings Playbook, love cures bipolar disorder Bipolar disorder doesn't work that way. Being in a good relationship is a positive influence on mental health, but the idea that the characters could stop taking medication and be completely mentally healthy just because they fell în love is ridiculous. I don’t know if anyone has already made a post about this before, but I just stumbled upon this app made specifically for when you’ve gone into a nonverbal anxiety attack!!! it was made by Jeroen De Busser who is an autistic computer science student. the app is really easy to use! all you do is open it and hand your phone to someone you need to communicate with during an attack but physically cannot, and it shows this cool little alert for the person to read, and then it takes them to an easy to use chat (that looks a lot like texting! except both of you are communicating using the same device).  the alert message is completely customizable and you can have it say whatever you need!  the app is called Emergency Chat and it’s available in the Apple Store and google play store.  I highly recommend it to anyone who might need it :) OH MY GOD?!?!?? BOOST That’s so bootiful! thank you so much for this because i never know what to do when i cant talk to people and they just start trying to ask me questions and its really hard to force myself to say i cant talk and stuff. im definately getting this right now WHAT? : oooo Sprint LTE @ 99% 8:54 AM Settings Emergency Chat Meltdown gave you my phone because l can't use or process speech right now, but l am still capable of text communication.
