Alive, Doctor, and Memes: WORLD NEWS RESCUE CAVE MISSION July 2 12 boys and their soccer coach have all been found alive after missing in a cave in Thailand for nine days. Rescue workers have found all 12 boys and their soccer coach alive after missing for nine days in a cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand. The boys are part of the Wild Boar soccer team, and range in ages from 11 to 16. They entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave on Saturday, June 23 with their coach during a team outing. The team and their coach became stranded in the dark caves after a sudden downpour. ___ The international rescue operation included Thai Navy SEALS as well as rescuers and experts from the U.S., China, Australia, and the U.K. Rescuers were working against a large, deep chamber, informally known as Pattaya Beach, which had been flooded. They believed the boys and their coach had taken refuge there. ___ The rescuers have to drain the water from the cave before they can retrieve the boys and the coach. ___ Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osottanakorn told reporters on Monday night: - "Our mission (is) not done yet. We will drain all water out from the cave then we will take all 13 people out of the cave. We are now planning how to send nurse and doctor inside the cave to check their health and movement. We will work all night." ___ Photos: Thai Navy SEAL | AFP | BBC

Africa, Braids, and Facts: Facts that will blow your mind: Braids were used for enslaved women to draw (braid) maps on their heads to escape plantations Qafrokingdom DID YOU KNOW CORNROWS WERE USED AS MAPS FOR ESCAPED FORMERLY ENSLAVED AFRICANS. San Basilio de Palenque is a village in Northern Colombia about 50 miles East of Cartagena with a population of around 3,500 people. San Basilio de Palenque is one of several walled cities that were started by escaped slaves in the 17th century. The city was set up as a refuge for escaped slaves by escaped slave Benkos Bioho, it is also the only city that has survived and is still inhabited today. The people who live here now are mainly Afro-Colombians which are direct descendants of African slaves brought by the Spanish during the Colonization of the Americas. Benkos Bioho was born in Africa and claimed to have been a king there. Captured in Africa by the Portuguese and sold several times until being sold to a Spaniard in Cartagena. Benkos Bioho tried to escape several times before he finally succeeded. After his escape he formed a town with others that freed themselves. There they developed their own language called Palenquero. The language is influenced by the Kikongo language of Congo and Angola and also by Portuguese. He also formed an army and an intelligence network to help organize the escape of other slaves and to guide them to the liberated areas. One of the things he did was have the women shape maps in their cornrows. They were also used as symbols to deliver messages. Bioho also had the women collect seeds and put them in their hair as decoration. Later the seeds would be passed on to the village so they could start to grow their own crops. He was later called King Benkos grew his army of Maroons (African refugees who escaped slavery in the Americas and formed independent settlements). His army of Maroons started raiding Spanish plantations, farms, and ranches. King Benkos also had spies that alerted him to the movements of his enemies and because of this he was never defeated. Unable to defeat King Benkos and the Maroons the Spanish Governor of Cartengena offered a peace treaty. The peace deal was finalized but a few years later was called off after the Spanish discovered a plot King Benkos was organizing against them. The Spaniards captured Benkos & 👇🏾

Adobe, Energy, and Memes: 27-Year-Old Activist Is Building Disaster- Proof Plastic Bottle Homes For Refugees In Algeria While there are numerous ways one can contribute to society and make the world a better place, action taken by 27-year-old Tateh Lehbib Breica stands apart from the rest. This is because the Sahrawi refugee has taken it upon himself to construct disaster-resistant homes using discarded plastic bottles. Not only can the homes be built for an affordable price, they are made for harsh desert conditions and can last for years. UNCHR reports that Tindouf, Algeria, is not an easy place to live, for temperatures regularly spike to 113 degrees Fahrenheit, and sandstorms can wreak havoc on refuge structures. But because people have been fleeing to the area to escape violence in the Western Sahara War for over 40 years, a housing solution was desperately needed. It’s because of this Breica decided to engineer homes that can survive harsh climates and are disaster-proof. The 27-year-old has a master’s degree in energy efficiency and participated in a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) scholarship program. His first intention was to construct a rooftop garden where he and others could grow seedlings in the bottles. However, the circular shape of the energy-efficient home he was planning posed too much challenge to that idea. After brainstorming and recalling a documentary he watched on building structures out of plastic water bottles, he was struck with a new idea. Inhabitat relays that the plastic bottle homes can withstand storms better than adobe, mud brick or tent homes. Additionally, they are water resistant — a fact which is essential, considering heavy rains demolished thousands of homes in 2015. The homes have thick walls and due to their circular shape, are resistant against sandstorms. Being Alone, Memes, and Sublime: THERE IS NO MIGHT OR POWER EXCEPT WITH ALLAH ALONE gardeuethepious When you seek a need, beseech Allah, and when you seek help, ask help from Allah..." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 2516) - Glorious is He, Who possesses the treasures of the heavens and the earth. When we need anything, we should seek it from Al-Wahhab Al-Karim (The Giver of All and The Generous) not from the creation itself. - “As for seeking the help of Allah alone, it is required because a worshipper is unable to attain his interests, protect himself from harm and evil, and there is none but Allah Who can support him in achieving his worldly and religious interests. If Allah supports a worshipper, such worshipper is saved but if Allah abandons him, he is ruined. This is the very meaning of saying, ‘La Hawla wala Quwwata Illa Billah (There is no might or refuge except in Allah.)’” 📘 (Ibn Rajab al Hanbali Rahimahullah, in a translation of Jami’ Al-Ulum Wal-Hikam) - “If seeking for assistance from the creature is with regard to what no one has power over except Allah, it is major shirk. But if seeking for assistance from creatures has to do with something they are capable of then such is allowed. However, avoiding it is better because it entails degradation and being in need of the people. It is better for you to be contented with Allah the Mighty and Sublime.” 📕 (Commentary by Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan) - If we seek help and support from the creation of Allah alone, we will be abandoned with the creation and left in ruin. It is always important to remember nothing happens to us except what Allah has decreed for us. - @gardenofthepious ForeverTemporary

Facebook, Jail, and Memes: New York Man Arrested for Cutting Wires to Red Light Cameras After Exposing Government Revenue Generating Scheme BEN KELLER Rp @the_eye_is_on_us | Repost via @eyenero - A New York man known as the Red Light Robin Hood was arrested again this month after cutting wires to red light cameras where yellow light duration times were shortened by the city in order to generate more citations and revenue. The shortened durations at the traffic lights generate $32 million for Suffolk County, which is why the county allows the practice to continue despite their own study showing they lead to an increase in accidents with injuries. PINAC’s Theresa Richard reported about Stephen Ruth back in February after seeing videos he posted on Facebook that prove the lights near the cameras trick drivers into citations. At that point, Ruth had already been arrested in August for using a painter’s extension rod to point the cameras towards the sky. On April 11, he went a little further and cut wires to 18 cameras. “I cut the cable wires, making it useless. I’ve made it dysfunctional, just like the whole red-light camera program,” said Ruth during a local interview. “I did it in order to save lives.” And after he cut the wires, he called the news to cover his act of civil disobedience, which resulted in his arrest after police received pressure from politicians. Ruth said police and sheriff deputies support him, because they’re aware of the shortened yellow lights. Some may even testify on his behalf if his case goes to trial. When he was in jail for his most recent arrest, a sheriff’s deputy even offered to bail him out. But after receiving attention from local residents and media, Ruth discovered a government entity mounted a camera outside of his home on a telephone pole just like the one LaVoy Finicum took down during the standoff with the government at a National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. But Ruth doesn’t know exactly where it came from. “The only reason the government is so concerned about me is because I proved that they shortened the yellow lights to generate revenue and killed a lot of innocent people,” said Stephen Ruth just before he painted over the camera with a painter’s extension pole. Ruth currently faces 22 years in prison for tampering of public property and.."

Desperate, Facebook, and Life: Some despicable people destroyed 50 life-saving water jugs that were put out in the dessert to save migrants' lives. C @borderangelsofficial ecumed Repost @borderangelsofficial: "Yesterday, while scouting for this Saturday’s Water Drop, we discovered something despicable. Something evil. We found 50 of the 53 life-saving water jugs put out only a month ago had been deliberately destroyed. By who, we don’t know. They could be racist anti-migrant vigilantes, an organized hate group, or rogue Border Patrol agents. Whoever they are, they slashed and smashed FIFTY jugs, most of them covered in volunteers’ sentimental messages to be read by migrants. For these hate-filled individuals, it was no small task. These jugs were spread across a wide stretch of territory, revealing just how determined they were. Given just how treacherous crossing the desert can be, each slashed and crushed jug could have made the difference between life and death. How many migrants in desperate need of water approached what from afar looked to be a life-saving oasis, and discovered this evil? Imagine how that would feel. First, imagine the euphoric sense of hope, knowing that you’ll survive and soon embrace the ones you cherish most, that you’ll escape poverty and find refuge from violence. Then imagine that newly found hope ripped away from you, knowing you’ll likely die, and that people in this country want exactly that. The perpetrators’ message was loud and clear: migrants OF COLOR are not just unwelcome, but they should die. This is only one of many hateful and possibly deadly actions taken upon our life-saving supplies. In each and every instance, as far as we're concerned, those responsible are complicit in the potential death of fellow human beings. That’s called murder. They are serious criminals, and in a just world, would be treated as such. We are not deterred by these acts. In fact, we have grown only more determined. For every one jug they destroy, we'll replace it with two more, and make our deposits less vulnerable to their racist sabotage. To take action in the fight to protect the greatest human right there is, the right to life, join us on our Water Drops every third Saturday. For more information on how to sign up, check our Facebook page for RSVP details at the beginning of every month. "

Anaconda, Children, and Church: Jeanette Vizguerra Took Refuge in a Church to Avoid Deportation. She's Now Walking Free for Mother's Day Source: TIME undocumedia She was granted a stay of removal 🦋😢😊 YES!!! FelizDiaDeLasMadres Jeanette 🌹❤ "Jeanette Vizguerra, the undocumented mother of four who took sanctuary in a Denver church to avoid deportation, walked out of the church Friday morning after she was granted a 2-year stay of deportation on Thursday. It’s a special day for me because I will be able to celebrate MothersDay with my children and grandchildren,” said Vizguerra in a press conference outside the church where she was staying. Still, she vowed to continue fighting for other undocumented immigrants threatened with deportation. “Their struggle is my struggle, and my struggle is their struggle, because we are a community,” she said. Vizguerra, who is originally from Mexico and has lived in the U.S. for two decades, took refuge in the First Unitarian Society after her first stay of removal expired and she skipped a meeting with ICE, fearing deportation. A private bill was introduced in Congress to grant Vizguerra a lawful permanent resident status, and she quickly became a symbol of impact of President DonaldTrump’s immigration policies on law-abiding immigrants. Vizguerra was included in the 2017 TIME 100 list of most influential people." HereToStay

America, cnn.com, and Community: The Yakuza, Japan's largest organized crime syndicate, provided food, water, blankets, diapers, etc. during both the 1995 and 2011 Japanese Earthquakes and at a much faster response time than even the Japanese Government ・・・ Even Japan’s infamous mafia groups are helping out with the relief efforts and showing a strain of civic duty. Jake Adelstein reports on why the police don’t want you to know about it. For more coverage of Japan’s crisis. The worst of times sometimes brings out the best in people, even in Japan’s “losers” a.k.a. the Japanese mafia, the yakuza. Hours after the first shock waves hit, two of the largest crime groups went into action, opening their offices to those stranded in Tokyo, and shipping food, water, and blankets to the devastated areas in two-ton trucks and whatever vehicles they could get moving. The day after the earthquake the Inagawa-kai (the third largest organised crime group in Japan which was founded in 1948) sent 20-five four-ton trucks filled with paper diapers, instant ramen, batteries, flashlights, drinks, and the essentials of daily life to the Tohoku region. An executive in Sumiyoshi-kai, the second-largest crime group, even offered refuge to members of the foreign community—something unheard of in a still slightly xenophobic nation, especially amongst the right-wing yakuza. The Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest crime group, under the leadership of Tadashi Irie, has also opened its offices across the country to the public and been sending truckloads of supplies, but very quietly and without any fanfare. The Inagawa-kai has been the most active because it has strong roots in the areas hit. It has several “blocks” or regional groups. Between midnight on March 12th and the early morning of March 13th, the Inagawa-kai Tokyo block carried 50 tons of supplies to Hitachinaka City Hall. Church, God, and Heaven: 90 Ps 9o describes the intensity of spiritual warfare the Church wages against the devil and his angels, both in life and in death. These enemies are called hunters (v. 3), things moving in darkness, mishaps, demons of noonday (v. 6), sinners (v. 8), evils, scourges (v. 10), asps, lions, an dragons (v. 13). They seek to ensnare us with every troubling word (v. ). These words are like arrows that try to pierce the soul with unnatural fears (v. 5), especially the fear of death. Their numbers are many (a thousand and ten thousand, v. 7) Success in this warfare is called salvation (v. 16), which comes through God and our hope in Him (My God and I will hope in Him, v. 2). God is called the Most High (w. 1, 9), the God of heaven (v. 1), and the Lord (vw. 2,9). He also commands His angels to help us (vw. 11, 12; see also Heb 1:14). His salvation is described as help (v. 1), shelter (w. 1, 14), protection, refuge (v. 2), freedom (v. 3), overshadowing (v. 4), the shield of truth (v. 4), deliverance (v. 14), glorification (v. 15), and satisfaction (v. 16) C0 Ps 9o is read at the Sixth Hour each day, along with 53 and 54. It is also read in Great Compline and in the funeral service.
miriamgrace25:

cluelessreader:

I finally get it.

I finally get what we mean when we say that salvation, is a process: It’s not salvation from Hell.
