That’s also on top of the fact that autism is more widely reported in the modern day because, unlike back in the old days, we don’t lock autistic people up in institutions or try to hide their existence. And as you’ve probably heard a million times but continue to plug your ears when told — the one “scientific” paper written that argued that vaccines cause autism was proven to be bunk, several other scientists involved in the “research” asked to have their names removed from the paper and admitted that it was bunk, and the main researcher involved (Andrew Wakefield), had his medical license revoked. Dank, Energy, and Head: Sairam Gudiseva 3mt period Never has a man influenced physics so profoundly as Niels Bohr in the early 1900's Going back to this time period, little was known about atomic structure; Bohr set out to end the obscurity of physics. However, things didn't come easy for Bohr. He had to give up most of his life for physics and research of many hypothesis. But, this is why you and I have even heard of the quantum theory and atomic structures. Bohr came up with his quantum theory while studying at Cambridge. Bohr was a skeptic and he never truly believed in Max Planck's old quantum theory. He put forth the idea that, going from one high-energy orbit o a lower one, an electron could, in fact, be trying to emit a quantum of discrete energy. Bohr was criticized for this idea, but he didn't let up. Soon after, Bohr said his famed quote, " If quantum mechanics hasn't shocked you, you haven't understood it yet." This quote is extremely famous and has gone down as the motto for quantum physicist around the world. Understandably, Bohr never won a Nobel prize outside of physics (of which he only won one). Bohr's still going strong with his theories on atomic structure; he allowed for 100's of scientists to fully experiment with the cell and its many components. Bohr was largely on the run from the Nazis when he came up with this discovery, which is amazing because around this time, Bohr's home country of Denmark was invaded by the Nazi's. Bohr and Ernest Rutherford are given credit, but it is believed that Rutherford decided to desert Bohr in the middle of their work. Rutherford once, quite famously said that you should never bet against the wonders of science. Niels Bohr's famous career never really kicked off until he was forty years old. Most other major scientists were going all over the world with their ideas by their early twenties. However, in order preserve the legacy of Niels Bohr, he has his own institution, whose goal is to make many more great strides in the field of physics for years. How did Bohr affect you and me? Without Niels Bohrs' more advanced atomic theory, we might as well cry over how little we know of the atoms and their compounds. Physics would have never been such a force in the todays society. However, to this day, research is still going on to improve and update the atomic theory. Although scientists clearly want to improve on Bohr's theory, many famous physicists come out publicly and openly say that Bohr's ideas will never be improved upon, todays society cannot say goodbye to an opportunity to improve our understanding of the sciences. If Bohr never had silenced his critics, we would still be following Planck's theories, and going on incomplete information. Bohr's later life was all occupied when he decided to go back to Denmark and head the Royal Danish Academy. His main goal was to tell the world of the of the greatness of the Danish Sciences and most likely educate a new crop of scientists for years to come. There is controversy surrounding Bohr's lie during his stint in the Manhattan project. Though he claimed to be anti-violence and a peace-seeker, Bohr engineered on the Manhattan Project. Though he didnt hurt anyone directly, thousands of people died. Neils Bohr opened many doors for you and I in the physics world, he will go down as one of the greatest physicists Never gonna give you up by Skyrocketxv MORE MEMES

Children, Feminism, and Fire: There's a researcher in Canada who was looking at the injury rates between boys and girls _boys, by toddlerhood, are two to four times more likely to be injured than girls are, and their injuries tend to be more serious, and she was trying to uncover what was behind that. She was actually on maternity leave with her oldest son and spent a lot of time on playgrounds, and what she saw was this really striking difference in how boys and girls are encouraged, or not encouraged, to deal with risk. So she did a series of studies with little boys and girls on a playground, and she had parents teach their kids to slide down a pole like you'd see at a firehouse. And what she found is that boys were much more likely to be encouraged to be independent, while girls were much more likely to be cautioned about safety, about danger. Even though boys and girls had the same skill level _- both boys and girls were equally adept at actually using the equipment - the way parents treated them was very different, to the point where even when boys actually asked for help, parents said no. A couple of boys tumbled to the ground off this fire-station pole because they couldn't do it without assistance, and they were left on their own So while this kind of parenting may help protect girls physicallv, the research suggests that it also contributes to this feeling of vulnerability, that the world is a dangerous place. Because the message that sends to girls - encouraging them to be very cautious and alwavs highlighting safety and danger is that the world is a dangerous place, and that they can't cope on their own. And that feeling of vulnerability of course is a core belief of anxiety as well Another] study had young children who were told to make a world out of these sand toys with their parents. And what they found is, parents were much more likely to praise their sons when they were being assertive or independent, when they were telling their parents where to put a toy or directing the play. But when girls did that, parents were much more likely to talk over their children, ignore them, or dissuade what they were saying. So the message that sends is that you don't have control over your experience, oVer your world annaknitsspock: paulatheprokaryote: lenyberry: yayfeminism: Why does being a woman put you at greater risk of having anxiety?Part biology, part what we teach our kids about their place in the world. So we’re teaching girls to be anxious wrecks and boys to disregard the possibility of consequences for incautious behavior. This explains a lot of things. Like… why women are anxious wrecks and men are frequently surprised when it turns out their actions do in fact have consequences. And why men don’t bother asking for help even when they really need it, and thus more frequently die from treatable health conditions (including depression), while women end up getting a broad stereotype of being hypochondriacs (and then having a hard time getting treatment for legitimate health concerns). https://www.ted.com/talks/caroline_paul_to_raise_brave_girls_encourage_adventure/transcript Great example of how feminism serves not just women but people of all genders, including men.

Confused, Thank You, and Hunting: a-fragile-sort-of-anarchy Here is my official plan to change the world as we know it: I become a paramedic. If I encounter patients who cannot be saved, just as they're about to die, I'l look them dead (haha) in the eyes and slap 'em real hard .If ghosts are real, this will cause dozens of them to be personally upset with me. I mean, at the very least, they'll want answers. I'll be the most haunted person ever This means I'll have dozens of opportunities to record paranormal phenomenon I'll get my own show on the Travel Channel called GHOST SLAPPER, through which l'll eventually get irrefutable scientific evidence that ghosts exist, making me the wealthiest and most respected paranormal researcher of all time .On my death bed, one of my interns will slap me real hard, to make sure I come back all pissed off and confused I will be the first ghost to host a ghost hunting show (which is mega cool, come on, admit it) Eventually, the secret goes global, and everyone starts slapping their loved ones real hard as they die, because they believe it's the best way for their spirit to remain here on Earth with them After enough time, death slaps become commonplace. People have DNS (do not slap) instructions in their wills instead of or along with DNR (do not resuscitate) ones HOWEVER, because everyone expects the death slaps, they no longer have the desired effect. Getting slapped is just a natural part of dying, now, but it accomplishes nothing Like with all cultural junk, the origin eventually slips away, and the knowledge of WHY we slap the dying is esoteric at best. 1, however, remember, and haunt hospitals for centuries, laughing because everybody's gettin' slapped Thank you for your time You gotta slap the spirit out of them!

You gotta slap the spirit out of them!

I enforce federal worker health and safety and pollution regulations.  When I was learning my trade, when my classmates and I were having a chuckle over the “well duh” level of specificity written into the Code of Federal Regulations (try “no hazardous material shall be stored in crew berthing” on for size), I will never forget the silence that followed when our instructor spoke these words: “Your regulations are written in blood.” These regulations were not written on a whim. They were written because someone thought they could cut costs by storing however many more pounds of a radioactive, toxic, carcinogenic, or whatever else material in the same rooms where the human beings they paid to transport those materials slept, and then did that, because no one was telling them not to.  They were written because people died. Horrifically. Because unregulated capitalism values profit over human life and suffering.  Can I say it again, for those not paying attention?  Unregulated capitalism values profit over human life and suffering. Do we also need to fucking talk about the Radium Girls again who slowly fucking rotted alive because the company they worked for deliberately hid knowledge of radium’s effects on living matter? I’m gonna talk about it. It’s depressing and dark as hell, but if anyone ever thinks to themselves that companies will just regulate out of a sense of civic duty or basic human morality, and don’t need outside enforcement, then they need to keep this story in mind. United States Radium Corporation that knew radium was lethal, and hired factory girls to work at painting watches with glow-in-the-dark radium faces. To emphasize - they knew radium was lethal and dangerous. Scientists who worked with it wore safety equipment and knew better than to touch it with bare skin. The factory girls, on the other hand, were instructed by their employers to keep the tips of their paint brushes pointed by sucking them between their lips. An act that guaranteed that they were ingesting small amounts of radium daily. They were told that radium was safe, and in small doses even good for you - United States Radium Corporation had paid for ‘studies’ and promoted other products which used small amounts of radium, and had branded at as, basically, a medicinal curative that just need to be doled out in appropriate dosages. This was bullshit, and not even bullshit which the company higher ups could reasonably be expected to actually believe on all levels, with the information that they had readily at hand. What they knew was that a small amount of radium wouldn’t kill you right away, and that there was a two year statute of limitations on workers compensation claims. When the girls began dying and the finger was pointed at radium, the president of the United States Radium Corporation had an independent researcher investigate the claim. The research established that the link between the girls’ deaths and radium was clear. The company, not liking that result, covered up the independent research and hired other people to simply state that this was not the case. Of course, by this point there were dying factory workers who were literally glowing in the goddamn dark, whose bones had become so infused with radium that they were visibly radioactive in their autopsies (when said bones weren’t just falling out of them while they were alive, anyway), so of course the company was forced to admit - oh wait, no, they started stealing dead women’s bones from morgues so that they could dispute their causes of death. Like. Let’s be clear. United States Radium Corporation didn’t just fail to keep their workers sufficiently informed, they didn’t just not investigate things well enough, which would have been bad enough on its own. They told their employees to ingest a deadly substance, and when those DYING WOMEN got together with their last breaths to try and make the world aware of what was going on, purely to try and keep it from killing all the other girls who might get jobs in factories (because they were all doomed to painful cancerous death themselves), they paid for hush-ups and cover-ups and fake studies, and stooped to full-on grave robbing to keep people from finding out that they were killing women in droves. There were factory workers giving testimonies as they physically fell apart on their death beds. The company’s response was not to even revise workers’ regulations to be more safe. It was entirely, 100%, to lie about it, so they could keep making money and keep killing their workers. And do you want to know what happened to that company? To the United States Radium Corporation? It eventually became The Safety Light Corporation, and was decommissioned in 2005. The radium girls were dying in the late 1920′s. The company that killed them didn’t even go under with them, didn’t even die when their efforts to raise awareness actually resulted in better and more stringent regulations. So the prospect that better regulations will hurt a corporation are laughable. Even the corporations that deserve to be destroyed by them still manage to do alright when they’re forced to make less money and kill fewer people. Boo hoo, how sad for them. But inadequate regulations will kill actual human people. Full stop. Some companies will still adhere to ethics, sure, some will have people in charge or on various levels who care and can intervene. But not all of them. And the United States Radium Corporation was just ONE company. One company, that had no regulations to hold it accountable, that decided it didn’t care - and so many women died horrible, horrible deaths for it. Do not ever let anyone kid you about the ramifications of deregulation. And do not forget that people who died, with their dying breath, fought to establish regulations to keep you safe. Anyone who takes them away is spitting on their graves.

Blowjob, Candy, and Fucking: hannah @lovecloud I told my boyfriend to write me an essay on why I should blow him 00 AT&T LTE 7:58 PM 89% 8 MAN CANDY I want a persuasive essay with a strong thesis statement written in MLA format on why l should suck your dick Due by midnight tonight I'll fucking do it. Do it Ok. By text or email? Email Gotchu. Jose Alvarez Dr. Hannah Smith GF STUDIES PO1 December 27 2016 A Short but Thorough Analysis on Why You Should Blow Me To blow, or not to blow? This is a parody of the wel echoed Shakespearean proverb that gauges the pros and cons and consequential successes and failures (the latter of which is indisputably improbable) of giving me a blowjob. As the author, whom henceforth will be referred to for general commentary as I or me, have taken a contrarian stance on the hyperbolized disadvantages of giving me a blowjob, I will, in strictly heterosexual dialogue, support my argument by addressing the benefits of having my skin flute played orally. The aforementioned benefits are as follows: increased receptivity for the blowing of the other partner, positive increase on women's self-esteem, and the enrichment of intimacy between men and women who partake in oral sex It goes without saying that in order to be healthy; a person must eat well, exercise moderately, sleep a generous amount, and last but not least, have regularly sex. There is overwhelming evidence supported by countless scientists that links the performance of sex to better health. But where does oral sex benefit me? Why should you blow me? I'm not selfish, and this excerpt from The Evolution of Sexuality from Oakland University proves that blowing me is not only beneficial for me but for you as wel "Men who report performing more mate retention behaviors, in general, and more benefit-provisioning mate retention behaviors, in particular; also report greater interest in, and more time spent, performing oral sex on theii female partner Likewise, women who report performing more benefit-provisioning mate retention behaviors also report greater interest in, and moretme spent, performing oral sex on their male partner -but this relationship is stronger for men." The aforementioned only reinforces my point that blowing me serves to greatly encourage a more diverse repertoire in bed Performing the act of fellatio on your amazing boyfriend surely includes you in the beneficiary. Recent studies and polls have found that there is indeed a correlation concerning th frequency of knob gobbling and a woman's improved self- esteem. According to the June 2011 issue of The Journal of Adolescent Health, researchers at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health conducted a poll, of which the results found that sexual pleasure augments healthy psychological and social development. Researcher Adena Galinsky, Ph.D.'s studies in the poll concluded that the receiving and performing of oral se improved a woman's self-esteem, autonomy, and empathy. Isn't sucky fucky amazing? The frequency of oral sex and intimacy goes hand in hand. I uncontestably declare that sex with foreplay will always eclipse sex lacking thereof. Here's what journalist Gigi Engel from Elite Daily has to say; "Ifyou 're giving a blowjob, you 're serving this other person with no guarantee that you ll receive the same satisfaction. You're giving up your pleasure -and perhaps suffering some discomfort -for the sake of making someone else happy. You 're valuing another person 's pleasure above your own." Giving me brain literally fosters a stronger chain of love, admiration, loyalty, and empathy between both of us. If both opinionated journalists and empirical scientists subscribe to this idea, then surely giving me a blowjob rewards not only me, but you as well Giving me a blowjob is thus proven to encourage a healthier sexual and emotional state. These three points are fueled by both reason and logic, and in my opinion, are substantial evidence to the welfare of my dick. Barbie, Bitch, and Definitely: m00nqueer ok this is "earring magic ken" who was introduced in 1992 (and discontinued shortly thereafter) basically mattel had done a survey and discovered that girls didn't think ken was "cool" enough SO someone had the bright idea to research coolness by sending people to raves which, at the time, were mostly hosted & attended by gay men. so they went to these raves and took notes on what the fashions were and finally landed on this outfit, mesh shirt & all this doll became the best selling ken doll in history, mostly because gay men bought it in droves. (many of them said his necklace was supposed to be a cockring) but mattel and a number of parents weren't very amused and discontinued the doll muffinsandmatriarchy OH MY GOD YOU'RE LEAVING OUT THE BEST PART MAGIC EARRING KEN. This bitch gay as HELL. supposedly the aforementioned rings on him are for “magic earrings" and clip on charms. These charms are advertised as totally COMPLETELY heterosexual, not gay at ALL, see there's a Barbie that also has Magic Earring Action with clip on charms! Ken wears them to match, because he's STRAIGHT Here's the issue: THERE IS NO MATCHING BARBIE. Magic Earring Ken is out here straight up wearing cock rings on his jacket with a thinly devised advertising ploy to make it SEEM not-gay. But it's DEFINITELY GAY. (And if you're thinking, why cock rings? Well way back in 1992 gay culture was HUGE on wearing cock rings, it was the in-style. Everyone who was gay wore one, even women; you sewed them to your leather jacket, and the placement indicated some of your sexual preference. In case you were wondering, Ken is a Bottom.) AND IT GETS BETTER. Magic Earring Ken was on the shelves for six weeks before they pulled him. In that short amount of time? Magic Earring Ken became the BEST SELLING Barbie Doll Mattel has EVER SOLD LET THAT SINK IN. SIX WEEKS. And now every time these wheezy old hetero windbag execs go to look at their sales board, they're forever haunted by Magic Earring Ken at the top of their charts Gay as hell, Cock Ring Bottom Ken, the Best Selling Mattel Doll Pride shoptiludropdead please take the time out of your day to read about Magic Earring KenTM Earring Magic Ken™

Confused, Thank You, and Hunting: a-fragile-sort-of-anarchy Here is my official plan to change the world as we know it: I become a paramedic. If l encounter patients who cannot be saved, just as they're about to die, I'll look them dead (haha) in the eyes and slap 'em real hard If ghosts are real, this will cause dozens of them to be personally upset with me. I mean, at the very least, they'll want answers. I'll be the most haunted person ever. This means I'll have dozens of opportunities to record paranormal phenomenon. I'll get my own show on the Travel Channel called GHOST SLAPPER, through which I'll eventually get irrefutable scientific evidence that ghosts exist, making me the wealthiest and most respected paranormal researcher of all time. . On my death bed, one of my interns will slap me real hard, to make sure I come back all pissed off and confused .I will be the first ghost to host a ghost hunting show (which is mega cool, come on, admit it) Eventually, the secret goes global, and everyone starts slapping their loved ones real hard as they die, because they believe it's the best way for their spirit to remain here on Earth with them . After enough time, death slaps become commonplace. People have DNS (do not slap) instructions in their wills instead of or along with DNR (do not resuscitate) ones. HOWEVER, because everyone expects the death slaps, they no longer have the desired effect. Getting slapped is just a natural part of dying, now, but it accomplishes nothing .Like with all cultural junk, the origin eventually slips away, and the knowledge of WHY we slap the dying is esoteric at best. .1, however, remember, and haunt hospitals for centuries, laughing because everybody's gettin' slapped. Thank you for your time spiritualwarriorofdestruction What the fuck man a-fragile-sort-of-anarchy Excuse me, do you have a better idea? The ghost slapper

America, Anime, and Cars: Japanese Tea Party Article from thegalagals Read it Throw a Throw a fun Japanese Tea Party for that special little gal! jennaavh ginzers: ginzers: ginzers: Teach children that this is not ok Teach children that there's nothing wrong with this I'm really not understanding why you think cultural appropriatiorn would be ok, unless you are assuming that the girl in the picture is part Japanese Yellow face yet she's using white makeu p in the traditional style but oka Cultural appropriation isn't a thing hon. Cultures should be shared by all means. I disagree. The makeup is clearly reflective of traditional Geisha makeup which is yellowface and therefore racist. Furthermore, the girl is wearing a kimono, a garment that has for ages carried cultural significance. Assuming that she is white how can you think this is ok? And cultural appropriation isn't a thing? What rock do you live under?I suggest you educate yourself on the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation. I am japanese, in japan at this very moment. The only people who think culture shouldnt be shared are racists like you. A vast majority of Japanese people actually enjoy other people making an effort to spread and enjoy japanese culture, and encourage it. Many make businesses in deliberately taking pictures of people in kimono. A common omiage gift) for foreigners from japanese people is traditional japanese things such as kimonos, tea seats, shisa dog statues, ect And to top it off, basically 80 percent of japanese customs, traditions, and food came from other countries. Japanese is an integration of different cultures, like america. Japan takes influences from places like korea, china, russia, and europe. If japan stuck to itself, there would be no tempura, japanese tea, tea ceremonies, kabuki, japanese bread, japanese curry, j- pop, anime, cars, or modern fishing techniques. The picture is not "yellow face" they are not making fun of asians. In fact, it looks like they put extra care and research into their work. The only reason that you have a problenm with this is because that little girl is white and you know that it is acceptable on tumblr to crap all over white people. The only racist here is you. Rekt btfo Dang she got shut down. Damn I've never hit reblog so fast in my entire fucking life ,6362 20 japanese tea party

America, Bailey Jay, and Dumb: g If this was another country, we'd have to tell you that this coffee may be hot. Good thing this is Canada okayto: bregma: kevinrfree: charlienight: commanderbishoujo: bogleech: prokopetz: johnlockinthetardiswithdestiel: truthandglory: assbanditkirk: whoa canada someone needs to turn down that sass level Two things to know about Canada! We are smart enough to know hot things should be hot. We are sorry if you don’t fun story about the reason they do that (at least in America) once this lady spilled her McDonald’s coffee on herself and ended up getting like 3rd degree burns and since there was no warning on the cup she was able to claim she didn’t know it would be hot (or at least that hot) and won a lawsuit against McDonald’s for $1 million That’s what the media smear campaign against her would have you believe, anyway. The truth of the matter is that the McDonald’s in question had previously been cited - on at least two separate occasions - for keeping their coffee so hot that it violated local occupational health and safety regulations. The lady didn’t win her lawsuit because American courts are stupid; she won it because the McDonald’s she bought that coffee from was actively and knowingly breaking the law with respect to the temperature of its coffee at the time of the incident. (I mean, do you have any idea what a third-degree burn actually is? Third-degree burns involve “full thickness” tissue damage; we’re talking bone-deep, with possible destruction of tissue. Can you even imagine how hot that cup of coffee would have to have been to inflict that kind of damage in the few seconds it was in contact with her skin?) Yeah I’m tired of people joking about either the “stupid” woman who didn’t know coffee was hot or the “greedy” woman making up bullshit to get money. She was hideously injured by hideous irresponsibility, it was an absolutely legitimate lawsuit and the warning on the cups basically allows McDonalds to claim no responsibility even if it happens again. Every other company followed suit to cover their asses. So they can still legally serve you something that could sear off the end of your tongue or permanently demolish the front of your gums and just give you a big fat middle finger in court. “The label SAID it would be HOT, STUPID.” obligatory reblog for the great debunking of the usual ignorance spouted about this case obligatory mention that the media smear campaign to twist teh facts on this case and get public opinion against the victim was deliberate and fueled by the right wing tort reform movement it was seized upon to limit the rights of consumers to hold giant corporations accountable for wrongdoing watch the documentary Hot Coffee, it lays out all of the facts and examines the response to this case and explains why everything you think you know about this case is bullshit, and explains why tort reform is bullshit in an entertaining and informative manner The woman injured in Liebeck v. McDonald’s Restaurants was 79 years old at the time of her injuries, and suffered third-degree burns to the pelvic region (including her thighs, buttocks, and groin), which in combination with lesser burns in the surrounding regions caused damage to an area totaling a whopping 22% of her body’s surface. These injuries that required two years of intensive medical care, including multiple skin grafts; during her hospitalization, Stella Liebeck lost around 20% of her starting body weight. She was uninsured and sued McDonald’s Restaurants for the cost of her past and projected future medical care, an estimated $20,000. The corporation offered a settlement of $800, a number so obviously ridiculous that I’m not even going to dignify it with any further explanation. The settlement number most often quoted is not the amount that the corporation actually paid; the jury in the first trial suggested a payment equal to a day or two of coffee revenues for McDonald’s, which at the time totaled more than $1 million per diem. The judge reduced the required payout to around $640,000 in both compensatory and punitive damages, and the case was later settled out of court for less than $600,000. Keep in mind that at the time, McDonald’s already had over 700 cases of complaints about coffee-related burns on file, but continued to sell coffee heated to nearly 200 degrees Fahrenheit (around 90 degrees Celsius) as a means of boosting sales (their selling point was that one could buy the coffee, drive to a second location such as work or home, and still have a piping hot beverage). This in spite of the fact that most restaurants serve coffee between 140 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit (60 to 71 degrees Celsius), and many coffee experts agree that such high temperatures are desirable only during the brewing process itself. The Liebeck case was absolutely not an example of litigation-happy Americans expecting corporations to cover their asses for their own stupidity, but we seem determined to remember it that way. It’s an issue of liability, and the allowable lengths of capitalism, and even of the way in which our society is incredibly dangerous for and punitive towards the uninsured, but it was not and is not a frivolous suit. Please check your assumptions and do your research before you turn a burn victim’s suffering into a throwaway punchline. #don’t fricking get me started on Liebeck v. McDonald’s Restaurants the level of misinformation floating around is staggering#I know that it’s an older case but it still makes me really mad that people treat it as this big dumb thing?#the fact that the media took a serious case and turned it into what it is to us today should piss people off#the level of distortion of facts is astonishing and upsetting and nobody seems to hear about it?#sorry I’m done I just#it upsets me when a legal travesty like this is just dragged out for some#’haha americans are sOOOOOOOo dumb!!1!’ humor#I MEAN GODDAMN IF YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE FUN OF AMERICANS AT LEAST MAKE FUN OF US WITH FACTS OKAY jesus, i actually didn’t know about any of this, thanks for clearing that up Liebeck v. Asian, Bad, and Baseball: OLD NAWY Josh Clark Something has been weighing pretty heavily on me the past few days. I have had a few small discussions on the issue, but haven't gotten too far into it. I wanted to share this, not for attention, but because I thought it needed to be done It's no big secret to my friends that I love to hunt, fish, camp and do pretty much anything outdoors. I have always considered myself to be a country boy stuck in the city. One of the ways that I used to show pride for my lifestyle was wearing t-shirts with the Confederatel Rebel flag on them. In high school, I even had a bumper sticker on my truck that read "Keep It Flying". I had grown up seeing the flag regularly, and although I had seen it used in negative ways on occasion, I chose to accept the "Heritage not Hate" and "Pride not Prejudice" interpretation of the flag. If you had asked me back then, I would've told you that it was a symbol of southern pride and had nothing to do with racism I was raised pretty close to downtown Nashville and grew up with kids of all races with all kinds of backgrounds. I played baseball, basketball and football on teams where sometimes whites were minorities. I am very thankful for this. As I continue to grow and learn, I realize that we tend to fear things just because we don't understand them Because of where and how I was raised, background. I was able to realize that we are all the same underneath. I have had white friends, black friends, Asian friends, Middle Eastern friends, Latino friends, Christian friends, Muslim friends, Atheist friends, etc. Thankfully, I have never had a racist bone in my body I never feared people of other color or It wasn't until well into my college years when I began to start thinking for myself. I no longer let the people I was raised by tell me how to view every issue and tried my best to be more open-minded. I believe that one of the most important things for us to do as humans is to try putting ourselves in others' shoes before we make any kind of judgement. Although I never meant anything racist by sporting the Confederate flag, I couldn't help but think of what some of my black friends thought about it. I really can't think of a time that I was confronted about it. Did it not offend them? Were they too nice or afraid to confront me about it? The more I researched about the history of the flag, the worse I felt. What I had been told about its history was wrong. Thousands of southerners still fly the flag with no racist intent. They still defend the good things they've been told about the flag. They, like I once was, are WRONG. The flag is a symbol of a way of life that was wrong. Not that it needs to be stated, but slavery is one of the most evil and cruel things this world has ever seen. The Confederate flag represents this evil. Where is the pride in that? The Confederate flag is also a sign of division. How can you truly be a patriot of this country and fly this flag? Do we really need to fly a flag to show that we are southern, or that we like to hunt and fish, especially when it's offensive to so many? It is not a kind thing, a good thing, or the right thing to do To those against removing the flag, I do not think you are a bad person. I know what it once meant to me. I do, however, challenge you to do your research. Step outside of what your family taught you and be open-minded. Even if you believe in a different history lesson, is flying a flag worth the pain it causes others? Please try to view these issues from the other side of the argument. To those I may have offended in the past, who never confronted me, I apologize. I was WRONG As our country continues to move forward on equality issues, I believe the only place for the Confederate flag is in our history books mysharona1987: This is great.
