Animals, Cats, and Community: Humane Soclety or HTuron Valley 8 mins E An open letter to those who left puppies at our doorstep on Tuesday and Friday: They're OK. And we are glad you came to us. If this ever happens to you again, please come through our doors. And not because abandoning is illegal, but because we know sad things have happened to puppies left at doorsteps, especially in inclement weather. Please know our intake is open 7 days a week, and is judgement free. Even though our shelter is full (to others reading: adopters greatly needed-this week, we are discounting adoption fees 50% for adult cats and dogs), we are so grateful to fosters like Moni, who's sheltered and cared for more than 60 animals in her home enabling HSHV to expand beyond our walls to help countless more animals than limited kennel space. We know not all who love animals can keep them. And you were right to think our doors are always open to needy animals-and animal lovers-of the community. To the boy who left a heartfelt, handwritten note with a puppy on Tuesday that said, "We call her Zena. She likes to be held. Now she needs your special care," please know she's getting all of that and more. You mentioned her puppy cries; we hope you're comforted to know our veterinary staff have checked her out, and she seems healthy. To the person who didn't leave a note yesterday, but left a puppy in a carrier with a nice soft bed, please know we will work our hardest to ensure that pup finds another soft, warm place to lay her head at night and forever more. We are guessing it won't take long. At HSHV, our motto is Love starts here. Not just for animals, but for people, too.
