I saw a news report about this on T.V., she was a straight A Student who had perfect attendance and everything. Everyone loved and respected her for her skills, but when she started this experiment and people thought she was pregnant, they started treating her like garbage. Even her teachers started looking down on her like she was scum of the earth. The only people who knew she was doing this as an experiment were her school principal, her health care teacher, her boyfriend, and her mother. Her own siblings thought she was pregnant!I mean even her friends turned on her, it was horrid. Very very sad, and as soon as she revealed during an assembly that the pregnancy was false, a lot of people were in shock as she brought up all the horrible things they said and did to her because they thought she was pregnant.The reason for the experiment was to see how people would react and treat her if they thought she was pregnant, as opposed as to treating her as the straight A “Perfect” student they usually did. And it proved that people were horrible scumbags to her as soon as they thought she was.

When she was fifteen, she went head-to-head in a shooting contest with a prize of $100, against a travelling exhibition marksman (Frank Butler). She beat him handily, and won the $100 (equivalent to over $2000 today). Please note that it was a shot-for-shot match, and he lost on the TWENTY-FIFTH clay pigeon (so it was a moving target, too). Twenty-five shots in a row, Annie hit them ALL.

This, understandably, resulted in Frank, who drank his respect women juice, to be like “Wow that is super hot and I’m in love.” They ended up getting married pretty soon after that, but didn’t have any kids (but IMAGINE IF THEY DID. A FAMILY OF SHARPSHOOTERS).

Some of her “trick” shooting (in other words, absolute badass nearly impossible shots given the sights on guns at the time and such) included:

Splitting a playing card clean in half from thirty paces while it was place on its edge.

Taking off the burning end of a cigarette placed in her husband’s mouth, from thirty+ paces.

Having someone throw a DIME into the air, and shooting it clean through.

She was lauded by Chief Sitting Bull for her marksmanship when he saw her blow out a candle with one shot, without damaging the wick or the candle itself.

Into her sixties, she continued breaking records as well as being a vocal women’s rights activist. She, in her later years, shot 100 clay pigeons in a row from 15 meters.

She died in 1915, and her husband was so consumed by grief that he stopped eating and died 18 days later because he couldn’t stand to be apart from her.

After her death it was discovered that her ENTIRE fortune (a tidy amount) had been secretly given to several charities, women’s rights groups, and her family in the last few months of her life.

She was legendary, and received numerous titles to go along with her abilities, but my favorite is definitely Annie Oakley, Little Sureshot of the West.

 There's an engagement ring hidden in
 my house right now.
 My boyfriend and I were on our phones, looking
 through email. He was trying to find a
 confirmation for a thing we're doing tomorrow
 but couldn't. I grabbed it and went to type
 something in the search to bring it up, and I got a
 glance of an email from an engagement ring
 company with the subject "order confirmation" in
 his Updates inbox. I froze. He froze. And then I
 proceeded to pretend like I hadn't seen it.
 So a few minutes later we're on the couch and we
 both just start kinda... giggling. And couldn't stop.
 And he was like "why are we laughing?" And I was
 like, "I DON'T KNOW" And he was like "...but you
 DO know," which led to more laughter, cause we
 both obviously knew.
 And then I asked if...it was here. He nodded. And
 then I asked if it was hidden. He nodded. And
 then I asked if we could play the Hot or Cold
 game, and he said "absolutely not" Imao.
 So that's how my evening is going. I'm utterly
 giddy. And sooo0 impatient haha. I love him so
 much and this isn't a surprise because we
 regularly discuss the fact that we're going to be

 both just start kinda... giggling. And couldn't stop.
 And he was like "why are we laughing?" And I was
 like, "I DON'T KNOW" And he was like "...but you
 DO know," which led to more laughter, cause we
 both obviously knew.
 And then I asked if...it was here. He nodded. And
 then I asked if it was hidden. He nodded. And
 then I asked if we could play the Hot or Cold
 game, and he said "absolutely not" Imao.
 So that's how my evening is going. I'm utterly
 giddy. And sooo0 impatient haha. I love him so
 much and this isn't a surprise because we
 regularly discuss the fact that we're going to be
 married as soon as it's financially possible, but
 having the actual ring here feels so cool. I can't
 wait to say yes.
