TIL the longest wait between Harry Potter books was the nearly three-year wait between books 4 and 5.: As a fan of both Harry Potter *and* ASoIaF... I'm not sure if this criticism of Rowling sits well with me. It is after all a children's series and nowhere near as complex a series as a Song of Ice and Fire. I understand that parrismcb is being supportive of GRRM, as we all are, but it seems rather... beneath GRRM's fandom to be taking potshots (no pun intended) at Harry Potter and Rowling Yes, they're kid's books, but they're also a wonderful read for young adults as a gateway to more complex fantasy (like Game of Thrones!:)) and one of the things that always resonated with me was how genuine and relatable most of Rowling's scenes with children are. Both Rowling and George R. R. Martin really excel when it comes to writing realistic scenes with children... which is a rare thing in the sf/fantasy genre Link Frozen Thread grrm Oct. 27th, 2010 09:05 am (UTC) Re: As a fan of both Harry Potter *and* ASoIaF... Actually, I don't mind Harry Potter... although the last book sucked. THe ones that came before were enjoyable enough. My friend Melinda Snodgrass had a much better ending for the HP seires than the one Rowling came up with. And I won't even get into the hundres of pages of Harry Goes Camping. For kid's fantasy, I'd take HP over Narnia any day.
