South Asia Floods Leave Over 1,000 People Dead-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ While we've remained consumed on HurricaneHarvey and its affects, areas in South Asia have suffered their own catastrophic floods leaving over a 1,000 people dead. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ More than 8,000 miles away in South Asia, a heavy monsoon rained over the last several weeks leaving many dead across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Reports say that over 41 million people have been affected by the direct impact of the rain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In already deeply impoverished rural areas, homes have been completely wiped away by landslides and the rising waters. People were forced to use elephants to rescue trapped tourists and residents. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The most recent city hit is Mumbai, the financial center of India, parts of which are under several feet of water. On Thursday, a building collapsed due to the heavy rain, leaving 21 people dead and more than a dozen others trapped under the building. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Police, rescue workers, and residents were able to pull 13 people out of the rubble but are still searching for others who are buried underneath.: South Asia Floods Leave Over 1,000 People Dead @balleralert South Asia Floods Leave Over 1,000 People Dead-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ While we've remained consumed on HurricaneHarvey and its affects, areas in South Asia have suffered their own catastrophic floods leaving over a 1,000 people dead. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ More than 8,000 miles away in South Asia, a heavy monsoon rained over the last several weeks leaving many dead across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. With all this hatred and violence against LGBT people in certain parts of the world, I would like to send my regards and great respect to all brave souls whose well being and even their very lives are at risk because they refused to live in the closet and decided to be true to themselves. That's one of the bravest things I can think of, because I read constantly about atrocities committed against queer people just because they are LGBT. But remember, even though coming out is very rewarding experience, you don't have to do this if you know that it'll cost you your work, relationships, friends, or even your own safety. Even here in the U.S. things are not as well as they might look from the distance. But still it's infinitely better than living as queer in Africa, South Asia or Middle East. I believe it will get better. Find allies and like-minded people and never lose hope. Stay strong, stay proud, stay united! The U.S. needs to consider military action to disrupt Iran’s malign activities in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, which have intensified since the Islamic Republic signed a nuclear deal with world powers in 2015, a top American commander warned American lawmakers. Gen. Joseph Votel, the head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) testified Wednesday before the House Armed Services Committee about the security challenges facing his area of responsibility (AOR). In his written testimony, Gen. Votel declared: “Iran poses the most significant threat to the Central Region and to our national interests and the interests of our partners and allies. We have not seen any improvement in Iran’s behavior since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), addressing Iran’s nuclear program, was finalized in July 2015.” Gen. Votel also declared his concerns that Iran has increased destabilizing activity since the deal with Obama. Political weakness of our former president resulted in a real threat to the world growing in the Middle East. And it’s not just a military superpower.
