President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in neutral host city, Helsinki, Finland on Monday. Trump and Putin had one-on-one meetings, spoke with advisers, and took questions from reporters in a press conference. ___ Trump said the relationship between the U.S. and Russia “has never been worse than it is now. However, that changed as of about four hours ago” and called Putin a “good competitor” and not an adversary. ___ When Trump was asked if he sides with U.S. intelligence or with Putin he brought up Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails, and said "I don't see any reason why it would be [Russia], I really want to see the server." He added, "President Putin was extremely strong in his denial." __ Putin told reporters that “the Russian state has never interfered, and is not going to interfere, in internal American affairs, including the election process.” ___ This comes days after 12 Russian intelligence officers were indicted for meddling in the election. ___ Mr. Putin touched on the Iran nuclear deal, which Mr. Trump withdrew from in May, noting the two leaders still disagree on the topic. Future, Kim Jong-Un, and Memes: HISTORICAL SUMMIT President Trump met with Kim Jong-Un Monday night, the first meeting between a sitting American President and a North Korean leader President Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a historical meeting Monday night (Tuesday morning local time) in Singapore. This is the first time a sitting American president met with a North Korean leader. Mr. Trump said he will be suspending joint military exercises with South Korean forces and is confident Mr. Kim will continue with denuclearization “very quickly.” __ The meeting took place at a hotel on the island of Sentosa, and after Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim shook hands, they headed inside for a solo meeting. The initial one-on-one meeting between the two leaders, which lasted around 40 minutes, was mostly private aside from a pair of interpreters. After the private meeting, Mr. Kim and President Trump preceeded to a working lunch with more officials, when Mr. Trump told reporters two had formed an “excellent relationship.” __ In a televised portion of the summit, the two leaders signed a joint statement, where Mr. Trump “committed to provide security guarantees” to North Korea, and Mr. Kim “reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” __ After their meeting, Mr. Kim told reporters: - “It was not easy to get here. The past worked as fetters on our limbs, and the old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward. But we overcame all of them, and we are here today.” __ Trump told reporters he would “absolutely” invite Mr. Kim to the White House in the future.
