Crime, Family, and Life: Carol Marie Jenkins was a 21-year-old African-American woman who was stabbed to death with a screwdriver while selling encyclopedias door-to-door. In September 1968, Jenkins was going door-to-door when she noticed that she was being followed by two white men. Jenkins approached the home of Norma and Don Neal and reported that she was being followed. The Neals called the police to their home, but the police were unable to find the car that was reportedly following Jenkins. Norma Neal asked Jenkins to stay with them, but Jenkins felt as she had inconvenienced the family enough and left their home. A half hour later, Jenkins was stabbed to death with a screwdriver. For more than 34 years, the murder of Jenkins remained unsolved. But on May 8, 2002, police arrested Kenneth C. Richmond, a 70-year-old career criminal with a history of bizarre behavior and affiliation with groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Richmond was implicated in the crime by his daughter, Shirley Richmond McQueen, who witnessed the slaying as a child. Police detectives working in a “cold crimes” squad, were led to McQueen by an anonymous letter. When questioned, McQueen confirmed what the letter alleged that, as a 7-year-old, she had watched from the back seat of a car as her father and another man killed young Carol Jenkins. McQueen identified the clothing that Jenkins was wearing that night, which had never been revealed to the public, so detectives believed that the information given about the murder was accurate and they had found one of the killers. McQueen’s father gave her seven dollars — one dollar for each year of her life to stay quiet about what she had witnessed. At the time of the killing, Richmond lived on a Hendricks County farm and was just passing through Martinsville on the night Jenkins was murdered. Richmond never went to trial for Jenkins’ murder. He was declared incompetent to stand trial, and on Aug. 31, 2002, he died of cancer. via blackthen.com theblaquelioness

Guardian News Opinion Sport Culture Lifestyle US World Environment Soccer More Tennessee sheriff taped saying Ilove this shit' after ordering suspect's killing Oddie Shoupe is being sued for excessive force after telling deputies to shoot unarmed Michael Dial rather than risk damage to police cars
libertarian-lady:

A Tennessee sheriff is being sued for using excessive force after he was recorded boasting he had told officers to shoot a man rather than risk damaging police cars by ramming him off the road.

“They said ‘we’re ramming him,’” Sheriff Oddie Shoupe of White County said on tape in the aftermath of the killing of suspect Michael Dial. “I said, ‘Don’t ram him, shoot him.’ Fuck that shit. Ain’t gonna tear up my cars.”

Shoupe arrived on the scene shortly after police had shot Dial at the conclusion of a low-speed chase, clearly upset he had missed the excitement.

“I love this shit,” Shoupe said, apparently unaware that his comments were being picked up by another deputy’s body-worn camera. “God, I tell you what, I thrive on it.

“If they don’t think I’ll give the damn order to kill that motherfucker they’re full of shit,” he added, laughing. “Take him out. I’m here on the damn wrong end of the county,” he said.

Shoupe’s comments have prompted a federal lawsuit from Dial’s widow, Robyn Dial, alleging the use of excessive force against her late husband, who was unarmed.

“It was not only inappropriate but also unconscionable for Defendant Shoupe to give the order to use deadly force,” the filing states, calling his decision proof of a “malicious and sadistic mindset”. The suit also names the county, the city of Sparta and the two officers who fired their weapons.

“The comments as seen on the video are extremely disturbing. I’m not sure how anybody can thrive on the taking of a life, let alone somebody in law enforcement,” Dial’s attorney David Weissman told the Guardian.

Police had initially attempted to pull Dial over in April last year for driving on a suspended licence. He drove away, but the fact that he was driving a 40-odd-year-old pickup truck with a fully loaded trailer severely restricted his speed.

DeKalb County deputies, who began the pursuit before White County deputies took over, told investigators it was “more like a funeral procession” than a highway chase, with speeds topping out around 50mph.

Deputies tried using a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuverto slow Dial’s car, a common police tactic involving a police car nudging another vehicle to turn it sideways.

But Shoupe radioed officers to tell them to stop attempting to do that, instead ordering them to shoot the driver.

When a deputy had successfully nudged Dial off the road, Reserve Deputy Adam West, who was in pursuit in his own personal vehicle, fired three shots as the vehicle went down into a ditch. Dial died of a gunshot wound to the head.

In June, the county district attorney declared the shooting justified.

Dial told Tennessee’s News Channel 5 that she believed her husband had tried to drive away from the police because he was scared, and said she could not make sense of the order to shoot. “I feel with every part of me that’s exactly what they wanted to do was kill him.”

The sheriff’s office declined to comment to the Guardian.

Friday, Head, and Life: Man Found Guilty in Death of Gender- Fluid Teen He Thought Was Biologically Female @balleralert Man Found Guilty in Death of Gender-Fluid Teen He Thought Was Biologically Female - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Friday, 90 minutes was all a jury needed to give 23-year-old JorgeSandersGalvez’s guilty verdict in the murder of KedarieJohnson, a gender-fluid teenager. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sanders-Galvez and his friend, Jaron Purham, were found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Johnson, who was found dead in an alley with two gunshots in his chest on March 2, 2016. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sanders-Galvez and Purham gagged Johnson, covered his head in a bag and drenched his body with bleach. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sanders-Galvez and Purham met Johnson in a Hy-Vee and were under the impression that Johnson was biologically female. At the time, Johnson was wearing leggings, hair extensions with a pink head band. The two decided they wanted to take the teen back to a local but popular meeting spot for sex. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Prosecutors say when the duo discovered Johnson wasn't biologically female they stuffed a plastic bag down his throat, covered his mouth with a ripped T- shirt, went to an alley and killed him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The trial lasted only nine days with two days of jury selection. The jury consisted of eleven Caucasians and one African-American person. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sanders-Galvez will be officially sentenced to mandatory life in prison on Dec. 18 without any possibility of parole. Purham will be tried separately and also charged with first-degree murder.

Like you said, the Egyptians murdered all the male children of the Jewish people too. Furthermore, the film does not present the killing of the firstborns in a positive light; it’s a ghastly, disturbing sequence brought on by Pharaoh’s hard heart. Did she miss the multiple scenes of Moses pleading with Rameses to let the Jewish people go? How the plagues slowly escalated due to Pharaoh’s own stubbornness and pride, his fear of being the weak link, leading him to not only keep the Jewish people in slavery but to even increase their suffering because of Moses’ audacity to ask for their freedom? I…

No, clearly this film about the Israelites’ emancipation from Egypt is actually saying Moses personally killed every baby in Egypt.

I’ve never liked Lindsay Ellis honestly. Bad, Bad Day, and Batman: (TZMACHER vlETZM4 Qhy7708 7708-S SMILE! IS FOR .LING JOKE HISTORYOFI'llEBAT3Lse.. WITZ KAWALAR2 K "The ABC's of The Joker" - K is for "Batman: The Killing Joke": On March 29, 1988, one of the most definitive Joker stories was published: the graphic novel 'Batman: The Killing Joke' written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland, John Higgins and Richard Starkings. The story begins with the Dark Knight traveling to Arkham Asylum, deciding to attempt to talk to Joker, ending their war once and for all. Yet he finds an imposter Joker in his cell. The real Joker is free, purchasing a run down amusement park. The issue turns to a series of flashbacks presenting Joker's "origin story": an unnamed man failing to become a stand up comedian reluctantly agrees to help two crooks do an inside job at a power plant to bring in money to support his wife and unborn child. Tragedy strikes when the man learns his wife and baby have died and the heist at the plant goes wrong, leading the man to flee from the Batman on site into a vat of chemicals transforming him into the insane Joker. To prove that even the sanest man can turn for the worst after having one bad day, Joker arrives at the home of Commissioner Gordon and his daughter Barbara. As Babs opens the door, the Clown Prince of Crime shoots her, having her crash into the coffee table. Joker's henchmen then kidnap James, imprisoning him in the run down amusement park and is forced to view large photos taken by the Joker of Barbara undressed and wounded from the gunshot. Once Batman arrives at the hospital, finding Barbara paralyzed from the gunshot and discovering Joker photographed her, he goes to save Gordon, and the Joker retreats into the funhouse. Gordon's sanity is intact despite the ordeal and he insists that Batman capture the Joker "by the book" in order to "show him that our way works". Batman tracks down the Joker and subdues him, then attempts to reach out to Joker to give up crime and put a stop to their years-long war. The Joker declines, however, ruefully saying "It's far too late". The comic fittingly ends with Joker telling a joke, both him and Batman laughing and the panels move away into the rain. ✌🏼💜💚🃏📚

Memes, Moors, and 🤖: Protection in the night Prepped for her pleasure Good Knight Gothamites! Tomorrow we will continue "50 Tales for 50 Years: A Celebration of Barbara Gordon" with our last 3 stories! Earlier in our session (2 posts back) we discussed Kyle Higgins' 2014 story "Older Wounds" that shed light on the romantic affair between Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon. In 2016's DC Animated Film "Batman: The Killing Joke" as a prelude to the telling of Alan Moore's graphic novel, we see Bruce and Barbara in what is now deemed a "controversial" sex scene. While I make light of this scene with an account edit using art from @BossLogic's (Bosslogicinc.com) hilarious condom series "Safety First", executive producer Bruce Timm discussed in an interview the thought process him, screenplay writer Brian Azzarello and producer Alan Burnett had while wanting to explore this dynamic: "It was really important to us to show that both of the characters make some pretty big mistakes...so it's very human; it's a very understandable story." What are your thoughts on Batman and Batgirl's relationship in this animated film and did this portion of Barbara's prequel story help or hinder your experience watching this highly anticipated adaptation? As always, thanks for following on and off of Instagram, your support is always appreciated! Have a great night and we will have more History of the Batman tomorrow. Remember Gothamites, it's all about Peace, Love and Batman! ✌🏼💙💛🦇

Computers, Joker, and Memes: 41 st: Yesterday in our session "50 Tales for 50 Years: A Celebration of Barbara Gordon" we covered Alan Moore's one shot graphic novel "Batman: The Killing Joke". One of the reasons this comic is so memorable is the fact that the Joker shoots Barbara Gordon, unknowing to him Batgirl, ultimately paralyzingly her from the waist down. At the time, even Moore himself believed the acts of Joker shooting and undressing Barbara was extreme for comic books. In recent news, Bolland's original art illustrated photos of a completely naked Barbara, with the exposure of her breasts, giving critics the illusion that Joker sexually assaulted her as well. In years to come, Barbara would be listed in Gail Simone's "Women in Refrigerators" list, one that has important female characters to superheroes either injured or killed as a plot device; Barbara's tragedy was not the main storyline, but a pawn in the grand scheme of Joker's origin and the defining of insanity between him and Batman. Many saw her paralysis negatively when the book was published in March 1988. Even creators such as Alex Ross and Paul Dini wanting to have a story where she is cured by a Lazarus Pit in the later future. However, the vulgarity in these panels made Barbara Gordon the metaphorical phoenix of DC; to assure she would not end up in complete obscurity, creators John Ostrander and Kim Yale gave Barbara a new persona, the genius computer hacker Oracle, who became one of the most important figures for heroes in the DC Universe until The New 52 reboot in late 2011 (Rafael Albuquerque's cancelled variant cover to 2015's Batgirl 41 presented). We will have more tales of Barbara in her role as Oracle as we continue our retrospect. ✌🏼️💛💜📖🎨🎉
