Did you know? Crown shyness is a naturally occurring phenomenon in some tree species where the upper most branches in a forest canopy avoid touching one another. The visual effect is striking as it creates clearly defined borders akin to cracks or rivers in the sky when viewed from below. Although the phenomenon was first observed in the 1920s, scientists have yet to reach a consensus on what causes it. According to Wikipedia it might simply be caused by the trees rubbing against one another, although signs also point to more active causes such as a preventative measure against shading (optimizing light exposure for photosynthesis) or even as a deterrent for the spread of harmful insects. ⇒Love ❤️, flow 💬, serve ✨⇐ . . . . . . . . . . . . . nature habitat geyser science amazing facts video natural italy sand wow instatag facts instafun instavideo videos spiritual beautiful london amazingfact memes mindblown fact magic insta sun trees tree: re An incredible phenomenon called 'Crown Shyness' where tree tops avoid touching and create the appearance of winding rivers Science Did you know? They would then steal the dead guests' money and other belongings before adding their bodies to a mass grave they had constructed. This NASA satellite image taken at 1715 EDT (2215 GMT) on 5 September 2017 shows Hurricane Irma moving across the Atlantic Ocean. The most powerful Atlantic storm in a decade, has hit the Caribbean, with officials warning of its "potentially catastrophic" effects. The category five hurricane, the highest possible level, has sustained wind speeds reaching 300km-h (185mph). It first hit Antigua and Barbuda, before moving on to Saint Barthelemy and Saint Martin. It is then expected to move on towards Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In the US, Florida's Key West area has ordered a mandatory evacuation. The Mississippi River Delta has been an area of intense study for, among other things, the dynamic growth and loss of land experienced in the region due to natural and man-made causes. Although coastal wetlands are typically the topic of conversation, a recent paper published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters (Ortiz, Roy, & Edmonds, 2017) explores how pond expansion due to wind contributes to land loss, an inland erosion process referred to as ‘internal fragmentation.’ The scientists analyzed about 10,000 satellite images taken between 1982 and 2016 by the Landsat 8 satellite (a collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey and NASA launched in 2013), and found that ponds in the area tend to grow in the direction of the prevailing winds. Their research led them to suggest that ponds in the Terrebonne and Barataria basins are unstable, where 80 percent of ponds are expanding. This image shows the area of study along the Atchafalaya Delta of Louisiana, which the authors deemed stable due to the fact that there are nearly as many ponds contracting as expanding. It's not all smooth rides, beaches and sunshine. I get it. I remember a time when I was broke, didn't feel safe, didn't feel good enough at anything I did, got made fun of often, had no friends and was the dumbest kid in school. There have been times over the last few years I've struggled in other areas that are also challenging, scary, uncertain and leave me feeling like I'm still that same lost kid. But every day I give my best and try to BREATHE. Our breath and our thoughts are our closest companions. They've been with us from the beginning and with us more than anyone else. So I take time each day to give them attention, love and support. This allows me to not only feel better when I'm overwhelmed, but also have me make better actions which lead to different results in my life. It's all a process. At every new level we unlock we ultimately face new levels of figuring out how to handle our inner world of emotions. I try to remind myself to take it one day at a time while still chasing my big dreams that may take years to achieve. And if all else fails, get in a car with the window down, let your hair blow in the wind, and allow yourself to enjoy the journey. We are all in this together trying to figure it out, so have fun and make the most of the moments you have ✌🏼 PC by the man @nickonken: It's not all smooth rides, beaches and sunshine. I get it.
