BAGreekLove: Happy Founder’s Day Delta Sigma Theta (swipe) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There's nothing like attending an HBCU to learn more about your culture. It wasn’t until the 1830’s that African Americans were even able to receive higher education. That was just the beginning. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At an HBCU there are many opportunities for students to learn the true meaning of brotherhood and sisterhood. From the marching bands and the dancers, to the nine historically Black Greek Letter Organizations(BGLOs) also referred to as the “divine nine.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To continue to show our love and appreciation for HBCUs, we would like to highlight the “divine nine” at different HBCUs to showcase community involvement as well as the creative steps and strolls. If you would like to show what your organization is doing at your HBCU, please DM @peachkyss or email at peachkyss@balleralert.com ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Delta Sigma Theta was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. The ladies used their strength to promote academic excellence and assistance to those in need. In March of 1913, the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. participated in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington, D.C. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was incorporated in 1930. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some well known Delta Sigma Theta members are KeshiaKnightPulliam, MaraBrockAkil, KymWhitley, ShirleyChisholm, CicelyTyson, ArethaFranklin, NatalieCole, AngelaBassett, and so many more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Happy Founder’s Day!: #BAGreekLove: Happy Founder's Day Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc @balleralert BAGreekLove: Happy Founder’s Day Delta Sigma Theta (swipe) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There's nothing like attending an HBCU to learn more about your culture. Gregg Popovich Says The Country is an “Embarrassment to the World” - blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Once again, San Antonio Spurs head coach GreggPopovich is speaking out against DonaldTrump’s rude and divisive comments. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Popovich addressed Trump and the current state of the country under his ruling, as the celebrity-in-chief intertwined politics and sports in his most recent attack on NFL players who protest racial injustices during the national anthem. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Each one of them has the right and ability to say what they’d like to say and act the way they like to act. They have our full support,” Popovich said per Melissa Rohlin. “I think these ppl have been enabled by an example we’ve been given, you’ve seen it in Charlottesville,” he continued, discussing the enabling of racism in America. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Our country is an embarrassment to the world,” he added. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He then spoke about Trump’s decision to rescind Steph Curry’s invitation to the White House, in which Popovich thought was “comical - because they weren’t going anyway.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Popovich also divulged about white privilege, and how a discussion about race is necessary to make those that are comfortable - uncomfortable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Obviously, race is the elephant in the room, and we all understand that. Unless it is talked about constantly, it's not going to get better. ... 'Oh, that again. They pulled the race card again. Why do we have to talk about that?' Well, because it's uncomfortable. There has to be an uncomfortable element in the discourse for anything to change, whether it's the LGBT community or women's suffrage, race, it doesn't matter. People have to be made to feel uncomfortable, and especially white people, because we're comfortable. We still have no clue of what being born white means.
