BlackGirlsMagic This is a real queen I know I say this every time, but I’m saying it again: THEY DONT PUT NAMES IN HEADLINES UNLESS ITS AN INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE NAME. They’re not being disrespectful. That’s just how headlines work. They’re not gonna write “John Smith Saves Toddler From a Well” they’re gonna write “Pennsylvania Man Saves Toddler From Well” and then put his name in the article. Most people aren’t gonna click a link/continue reading an article that says John Smith, because who the fuck is that, and why do I care about him? Now, if it was, like, Kim Kardashian saving a kid from a well, you bet your ass they’re gonna put her name in the headline. That’s clickbait GOLD. Her name is instantly recognizable. We know who she is, and we wanna read on. Again, I’m saying this because, if we focus on the headline not saying Theresa’s name…it completely detracts the focus off the fact that this woman is a damn hero. We’re more upset and angry that she’s been “disrespected” (even though she hasn’t) by the, like, first rule of writing headlines, instead of saying “hey, she is saving these young girl’s lives, how can we help her?” Basically, share the article. Spread her message, share her story, and make Theresa’s name so goddamn well known that the next article that’s written about her WILL have her name in the headline. Also @ anyone who says “why don’t they say their name!!!!” Consider this: If you actually click on the damn thing and READ the article, I can guarantee you will learn the person’s name. It WILL be within the body of the article itself. So why are y’all acting like it’s a big mystery/ they’re deliberately erasing them or something? Aren’t you reading the article? If it really was so important to you, it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to read and learn her name, instead of you know, sharing it without reading it for woke points. 👀👀👀👀👀 Hello I’m a journalist and this is exactly right. Names are news but only if people know them already. I’m so tired of seeing this all the time. It’s a completely nonsense thing to get mad about. Put your energy into something more important - like calling the media out for not covering enough of this. But not for not putting an unknown woman in a headline. QUEEN

College, Dad, and Friends: smitethepatriarchy: nprglobalhealth: She May Be The Most Unstoppable Scientist In The World Dauqan is a woman scientist in what’s possibly the hardest place on Earth to be just a woman: Yemen. The World Economic Forum ranks Yemen as the worst country for women’s rights. In Yemen, it’s illegal for women to just leave the house without permission from a male relative. Even as a young girl, she was rebel. “I was a little naughty,” she says with a snicker. Read her incredible story here She liked breaking rules. And proving people wrong. So when her parents told her she might not have the smarts to go into science and engineering — like her dad — Eqbal thought: Watch me.“I told my father, ‘I’ve heard a lot about scientists in chemistry. What is the difference between me and them? So I want to try,” she says. And she did more than try. She crushed it. She was the first among her friends to finish college. Then she got a scholarship to do her Ph.D. in biochemistry at the Universiti Kebansaan Malaysia, where she studied the nutritional properties of palm oil. Read the full story here When little girls in the Middle East see photos of Eqbal as a chemist — wearing a head scarf, measuring pH — they don’t need to use their imagination to think: “I could be just like her. I could be a scientist.” Please rule us.

Advice, Ass, and Bad: Follow i keep seeing these posts romanticizing Peresephone and Hades. like hozier and florence welch should duet cause they're like persephone and hades. or cute little myth aus or fan art and edits of people's faves styled like them and it's like this: Persephone wasn't some young girl in love with a bad boy. She was fucking abducted and raped by hades. her mother mourned the loss of her child her time spent in the underworld wasa myth about why plants die in winter. when she is depicted in art the subject is usually 'The Rape of Persephone' that shit isn't romantic. that is fucked up. x hades #that shit is fucked #read a book 1 note that is fucked up ked #read a book I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry Is OP aware that oh so many books exist on this subject? And that almost universally the ones authored by people with doctorates in classicism and mythology disagree with OP? Including the... epic hymn that first told this story? You know what's in that original source material.. right? Abducted, yes Demeter mourned? Definitely Rape, no abduct So here's some info on Ancient Greek wedding traditions which (oh my stars and garters! included abducting the bride. With the father's permission, which Hades got before he took her away Here's a whole book on the subject of Ancient Greek wedding custom and its conflation with funeral rites. (Which sounds a bit like Hades and Persephone to anyone who's ever dabbled in things like explication and context) Here's a link to another book that talks about Persephone's rise to power as a result of her willingly eating the pomegranate seeds Oh shit!l Here's a whole bunch of myths and hymns that talk about her Queen of the Holy pug tacos Batman! Here's another book about the myth focusing on the seasonal religious and liminal rites WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE DRY SUMMER (not the fucking winter), which you know if you read a book Way to go, OP All these fucking books! What could anyone possibly do with them all?1?171? Do you eat books to absorb their powers instead of read them? A better guess would be that you got into a moral panic over the name of a certain Renaissance statue and maybe after reading three pages of Edith Hamilton or the first paragraph of a Wikipedia article. And then used that to castigate and demean not only the people who actually take their limited time to create gorgeous art but also to denigrate modern day worshippers of Persephone and Hades? Maybe next time, you stringy plece of over-boiled okra, you might want to take your own advice and pick up a book, instead of reducing the feared and respected Queen of the Underworld who held power equal to or in many interpretations GREATER than her husband into a meaningless pastiche of female disenfranchisement that you seemingly plucked from your own ass. JESUS CHRIST THANK YOU Perception of Persephone

Bitch, Children, and Fashion: backstory My ex-wife hid my daughter from me for nearly 2 years. Yesterday, after 696 days of separati, took the best photo I ever could. (imgur.com) submitted 9 hours ago by whatsaD4 x5 4129 comments share save hide give gold report crosspost 101k notcisjustwoman: Today on reddit, one of the top posts, with over 101,000 upvotes, is a picture of a man who leveraged the legal system to force a mother to allow him to see a young girl, after she managed to hide the child from him for almost 2 years. In typical reddit fashion, the dudes over there are eating it up, talking about how “biased” the court system is against men and circle jerking about all the horrible women they supposedly know who purposely keep children away from perfectly innocent men, despite the fact that the vast majority of women in the world will go out of their way to include the man who fathered their children in the children’s lives unless he is completely abusive and dysfunctional (and sometimes even then.)And, surprise! If you scroll far enough down in the thread, you’ll discover that the man is a drug addict and alcoholic who killed his brother in law! No wonder the mother didn’t want him around her child!Reminder that men seek custody of children only as a way of harming mothers and children and you should never, ever trust a man who tries to remain in a child’s life against the wishes of the mother. “Reminder that men seek custody of children only as a way of harming mothers and children and you should never, ever trust a man who tries to remain in a child’s life against the wishes of the mother.”Bitch what the FUCK?
